Geno’s Last Days?

Geno Hayes may have been immune to the effects of a good ol’ fashioned tasering, but the realities of the NFL struck him down yesterday.
He got benched, off a bye week no less. Quincy Black played for Hayes and Adam Hayward started at strong side linebacker. TampaBay.com beat writer Stephen Holder confirmed Hayes was sat down for performance reasons.
“We needed some better play out of the (weak-side) linebacker position,” Morris said.
Hayes conceded, “I just have to be more consistent. Got to keep it moving.”
This surely doesn’t bode well for Hayes’ future with the Bucs. He’s only 24, but a fourth-year veteran that will be an unrestricted free agent after the season. The benching, combined with Hayes’ past off-field incidents and rockstar general manager Mark Dominik professing a love of big physical players, sure makes it seem like Hayes has a foot out the door.
Remember, Raheem Morris said he expected “absolute dominance” from Hayes this season.

I’m pretty positive I have seen Geno make many more “splash” plays this year than Quincy Black or Hayward. Can’t remember the last time Black or Hayward made a TFL and I know Geno has this season, or at least at the line of scrimmage. Not sure this one makes sense to me. Black didn’t do anything yesterday.

Black has been playing worse than Hayes, but he got a big fat contract so he’s starting anyway. Not that Hayes play has been good…

bottom line is….we need linebackers in the draft saw them get run over several times by guys who are not considered power backs

We have more holes than draft picks. Normally you’d address that via free agency when you have a ton of cap space and the best group of FAs in years. That ship has sailed though, so here we are.

The Bucs need a consultant to come in and break up the love affair that the coaches and GM have with these players. Lumkin was Dominick’s boy and hopefully not the reason we didn’t make a move for Sproles or Bush. Black is one of Raheem’s favorites and he should have a seat next to Geno Hayes. Although; at least Hayes has some game changing splash plays. Can’t say I can say the same for Black though!

Hey Joe…I think we can stop giving Mark Dominik the nickname “Rockstar.” As for Geno…I agree with everyone else. If Black got paid that much foir his performance, the Bucs should pay Geno like he’s Patrick Willis.

Geno is talented, don’t know what has happened to him this year. The Bucs really have pushed some different schemes/coverages on defense this year, wonder if that has much to do with it?

I call BS. If you are going to bench Geno for performance, then exactly why is Quincy Black on the field?
Oh, that’s right, he just signed a monster contract.
Was anyone entertained yesterday watching Black get run over time and again yesterday as if he was Barrett Ruud?

This is actually one of the moves I agree with geno maybe has 1 tackle for loss a game and after that he’s getting pushed and manhandled the rest of the game. He hasn’t done anything this season. Black’s terrible also but imo he’s done more then hayes this year at least he has a pick lol. Bottom line is we need two new olb’s next year.

Is it the beginning of the Dekoda Watson era @ backer for us? He didn’t miss too many tackles and damn sure didn’t get run over by anyone when he was playing for Black.

i think this is a last ditch effort to find out if there’s a single position in this defense where quincy black can be effective. foster is the only lb we have that actually understands how to fill a gap. also, our dt’s got man handled, including price.

While I agree that Black should be benched before Hayes, Hayes is just too small to start at linebacker in the NFL. It’s that simple. He is not big enough to take on blocks or fill a hole like a linebacker in this league needs to.

@ KD…….That’s what they said about Double Nickel too. Not defending Hayes in any way, but all the criticism about his size was said about Derrick Brooks.

How are you sheep enjoying this rebuild?
2.5 years in and are best player on defense is Ronde (older than the coach), our best players on offense are Penn, Winslow, Joseph, Faine, Free and Blount (all with more than 2 years experience except Blount). The kids we went “rebuilt with” Black, Hayes, Biggers, Miller, McCoy etc all stink. Lets review the:
The 2009 draft:
Freeman – good player;
Roy Miller – worst player in the league;
Kyle Moore – out of football;
EJ Biggers – should be out of football;
Xavier Fulton – out of football;
Sammy Stroughter – non-factor;
2010:
Gerald McCoy – monumental bust;
Price – decent;
Myron Lewis – worse than Elbert Mack;
Mike Williams – inconsistent;
Brent Bowden – out of football;
Grimm – good but injury prone;
Lorig – not enough playing time;
Watson – not enough playing time;
So from thosw first two drafts – we got a good player in Freeman, some potential in Williams and Grimm and possibly 2 serviceable players in Lorig and hoepfully Watson. And we are foregoing free agency for that.
How bad would this team be without Barber, Penn, DJ, K2 etc?
Great plan guys. Does anyone doubt that we put this franchise’s future in the wrong hands and that the decision to do that was “totally” about $$$$.
I don’t care what the Glazers say publicly because their actions make their motivations obvious.

Happy trails Geno Hayes. No reason to resign that bum after this season.
EJ Bigger’s needs to go too. LB and CB are our two weakest positions.

What’s disturbing about our defense is that we’re fielding basically the same back 7 as last year, except with consensus upgrades at MLB and FS. Plus, a d-line that has been unquestionably better, especially at DE…and the defense is much worse. Heh?
I’m really starting to believe it has little to do with the players at this point.
We are playing badly not because of our players, but because of our scheme and coaching.
