Bucs Have The Drops

The stats gremlins at BSPN are at it again, cobbling together information they think is important to fans.
In this installment, relayed by NFC South blogger Pat Yasinskas, we learn the Bucs drop the most passes in the NFL.
The Bucs have moved into a three-way tie (with the Bears and Browns) for the league lead in team drops. Tampa Bay receivers have dropped 15 passes, according to ESPN Stats & Information. The Bucs are led by Mike Williams, who now has five drops. Arrelious Benn and tight end Kellen Winslow each have three drops.
One stat Yasinskas doesn’t mention is that Josh Freeman has thrown more passes this season than all but one quarterback. That would be Drew Brees.
And there lies the real problem; the Bucs throw the ball way too much.

Disagree with you there Joe, yes Josh is throwing alot….but his receivers are flat out not catching the ball.
This doesn’t even take into account all the airballs and whifs Josh has been throwing.
Josh and the guys really need to step up their game.

Not that stats count or anything, lol, but had those 15 non-catches been made and the other errant passes been on target, would we even be talking about this?
My point is, those 15 passes get caught and Freeman’s completion percentage goes up to 67%. Brees is at 70%. Would that 3% be an issue then?

Freeman needs to stop forcing passes, stop staring down receivers and stop over/under throwing. Period. The End. Oh yeah and he needs to move around more like he did last season. I was watching games from last season and he just looks like such a great and promising quarterback..what happened? I hope he snaps out of this funk and plays like he is clearly capable of!

The point is that this team is not capable of throwing and winning at this point in time. We are not the Saints. We are not the Packers. We are not the Patriots. We are the Bucs and the Bucs need to run the damn ball!

I agree we need to run more but that is not the real problem. We need to execute, regardless of the play call. Dropped paases are just as bad as our penalty problem. Not to mention our receivers getting bullied and having the ball taken from them. Mike Williams last week and Spurlock against the Niners come to mind.

How about maybe stopping somebody defensively? Not playing from behind all the time?
Amazing what that will do to your offensive game plan.

Gotta agree with Eric here. Passing/Rushing balance would correct itself if we weren’t digging ourselves into multiple score deficits by the 3rd quarter, or if we had healthy bodies who can take a handoff.
