Bucs Get Bite From The Big Dog
October 25th, 2011There’s a reason Joe refers to Steve Duemig as the dean of Tampa Bay sports radio.
And if you want to understand why, then click here to Duemig’s page on 620WDAE.com and hear his show monologue from yesterday. It was an epic Bucs breakdown for the ages.
Duemig lets it rip on Kellen Winslow, Josh Freeman, Aqib Talib, Raheem Morris, the British, and Duemig identifies the “main problem” with the Bucs.
If you can’t listen to the whole thing, (though you should) pick it up around the 12:40 mark.

He nails it on the lack of discipline and Talib’s thugery eventually going to cost Raheem his job. Glad somebody finally shot a wakeup call to Freeman.

Wow. I don’t ever get to listen to Steve Duemig because I live in Tallahassee, but I did read about his whole contract dispute. What a waste of money, they should also be paying the dead air that seems to co-host with the Big Dog. Jeff Cameron would run circles around this guy. This is the best guy in the Tampa sports market? Wow.

I’m 3 minutes in and all I’m thinking is “why are there so many pauses. Is this guy reading from the first ever telepromter? Is my internet broken?”
First time listening to Duemig, probably going to be my last. Does he always sound like this on the radio?

Mr. Softee reference for McCoy should appease Thomas. …Glad Duemig said the Yungry excuse is out the window. Enjoyable listen. No clue what you guys are talking about.

Pewter Plank:
Joe has heard Jeff Cameron a number of times. Can’t believe he isn’t working in a large market.
Guessing he and his family are happy in Tallahassee. He is very good.

The Big Dog had a powerful monologue yesterday.

This was the first ive listened to him too. I’m in Iowa. At first I thought the same you guys did. But not too far into in bacame a really good peice. I enjoyed the listen

I enjoy Steve’s show!
Not being from area, I’d say that perhaps Big Dog is an acquired taste for most non-Tampa residents. I listen to his show a few times a week up here in South Carolina and it’s taken me a year to warm up to the style of his show (I’m more of a Colin Cowherd or Jim Rome guy). The guy is a straight shooter, he’s really passionate about the area and he doesn’t hesitate to lambaste people who deserve it.

Well I live in Gulfport and I think the Big Dog stinks, but these were good takes on the Bucs. I’ll give him that. Why is sports radio so bad around here?

I thought that was the best description of the Bucs situation.

Though I agree with some of Duemig sentiments, I didn’t learn a dang thing by listening to him. He sounds just like some guy with opinions. That is boring. He didn’t come up with any ways to fix the problems an asserts things about the team, the locker room, and the coaches that only the coaches and players know and asserted them as facts. Much of his thoughts were nothing more than speculation but he talked about them as if they were 100% documented truth.
I agree that Talib’s penalties need to be fixed immediately(as I said week 3). I agree McCoy is no good for us oft injured(which I said immediately following his injury).
But Duemig just came off like a whiny child. Tons of stuff to complain about but nothing on how to fix it or proof of where the problems stem.
Lets not forget we are 4-3. It is not the end of the world. SO long as we stay over .500 I’m cool.
As soon as we dip under that threshold I will start showing my lack of support by not buying tickets. Money talks, and Duemig bullspits.

[Way over the line Captain Tim, you know better than to do that to someone employed by a corporate partner of Joe’s. — Joe]
Still stuck in Norfolk. The one thing I can tell you is, Both Media and Fan base seem very knowledgeable. After a loss, they may bitch about certain plays, are decisions- but they dont suddenly everyone on the team or in management. They discuss problem areas, but don’t seem to ever just hate on their team!! And I’m up here in Redskin/Ravens territory!!

I stopped listening to Duemig years ago. Their was a little girl killed at an NHL game on her Birthday. She was hit by a Hockey puck. I listened to Duemig talk about how” she was probably running around”” not paying attention”. [Easy Captain Tim. — Joe]

Some flashback Duemig there to the Dilfer era. Good stuff with my $5 footlong. He’s right that enough is enough with Talib. Rah needs to stand up to the growing BS all over the team.

Great monologue duemig. New nickname for McCoy “the big softy” fits perfectly.
Thanks for the honesty Mauh!

If you listen to the content and not his delivery style the guy is spot on with his comments. “Rah” is more like a buddy to these guys than a head coach. You can’t gain respect by being their buddy. Raheem is either going to start cracking heads over the Bye weekend or we will be saying “Bye” to Raheem at the end of the year. Thats IF the Glazers don’t decide it cost to much to get a real head coach with some guts to discipline players who are out of control. This whole scene reminds me of the way Marvin Lewis coaches. Its not a pretty sight. Please Raheem get it together. I am not asking for you to be gone, just to step up like a man.

WEell its about time he stopped kissing the Bucs asses. Talib has been Morris’ s wild child too long.. If he had apair of balls he would bench him tell solja bot to stfu make Faine block and Mcoy earn his keep. Stop the ra ra bull spit and act like a head coach . No more chest bumps right Jimmy Lake act like coaches not the player he dreams he was. Morris is WAY over his head

@ Capt Tim, I’m here in Virginia Beach, and you must not have been listening to Tony Mercurio. All of you that hate on the Big Dog need to come up here to listen to that jackass, THEN compare!

Duemig came off as a total idiot when he suggested that McCoy had the ‘choice’ to play or not but decided not to. What a moron! That crap might fly in Pop Warner but when you have 10’s of millions of dollars invested in a player, the trainers and the coaches decide when he plays and when he doesn’t. [Easy Bobby. Joe has a contract with Clear Channel. You can agree with Duemig but no reason to gangsta. — Joe]
October 26th, 2011 at 9:46 am
@Thomas Like I said before, I am consistent. If a player can’t get it done, then I don’t want him. When healthy, McCoy is a beast. But that means nothing if he is injured all the time. Similar to Bob Sanders. He was a great player when on the field, but he was rarely on the field.
I hope this doesn’t continue for the rest of his career.

[Sorry Jackal, Joe has a contract with Clear Channel. You can disagree with anything Duemig has to say but you can’t go over the line like that. — Joe]
