The Brits Should Welcome The NFL
October 20th, 2011The last time the Bucs played in jolly old England, the day after the game Joe monitored various British rags and read the comments about how the Brits took to the NFL.
The word Joe read most often was “rubbish,” which is why Joe rails that the NFL has no business being in England to be nothing more than a circus act for an unappreciative audience.
In this CSNChicago video, Lovie Smith discusses why the kickball hooligans over there should embrace the NFL.

That’s not entirely true. I have a good friend in England who was born there and has lived there his entire life. He does make regular “holiday” trips to the west coast of Florida. He was just here this past weekend. We were talking about football and how he began watching the Bears back in the 80’s. He loves American Football, but doesn’t hold it as high as his beloved “football.” Never the less, he regularly watches football games on Sundays, and was at the game two years ago. Just think about the future generations of Brits that will grow up with “american football” in their own back yard. I think as time passes the sport will continue to gain traction in the UK. I just hope that we don’t have to send our Bucs over their too often.

I don’t stand to make a dime off of these people’s acceptance of our sport, so let them have their opinion and enjoy their can-kicking third world game. Brits’ opinion has meant squat since 1776.

“kickball hooligans” – Once again, Joe, your lack of class shines through

Joe,
I enjoy your reporting quite a bit and love both American Football and Soccer. Respect your opinion on things Bucs related and I understand that need to stir up conversation with some outrageous opinions sometimes.
However, your constant almost irrational bashing of all things non-American is getting old.
There are a bunch of Euro’s or former Euros which are now Americans and live in this beautiful country who love your site and the sport of American Football.
If you don’t give a crap about us.. fine – tell us and we’ll leave.
Would love to stay here though…

Kickball hooligans, eh? I like american football, i love it, i love the Bucs. But do you realize that we’re talking about a sport more or less confined within your own national border, yes? On the other hand, “soccer” is vastly popular around the globe. Ask somone outside the US if he knows Tom Brady. Then ask if he knows Cristiano Ronaldo. Check the answers, see how many people knows who the heck Tom Brady is.
Please, i like this site, talk about the Bucs and american football, just don’t be angry with a more recognized sport and its fans…

C’mon now, the word ‘hooligan’ hasn’t been used used as a serious insult since 1982. Lighten up. No one is angry or bashing europeans here.
