“Stats Are For Losers Except Interceptions”

Joe pointed out that the Bucs were last in the NFC in interceptions yesterday, with only two through the first five games.
That lousy stat is out the window now, after Tanard Jackson, E.J. Biggers and Quincy Black picked off Drew Brees today.
As a result, the Bucs’ former defensive backs coach and the man who says “Stats are for losers” several times a week changed his tune tonight during his postgame news conference. A smiling Raheem Morris said, ” Stats are for losers except interceptions.”
Bucs defensive backs were dropping balls left and right before today. Often times that’s contagious.
It’s amazing that the guy on his couch (or not on his couch) for the past year was the one with glue on his hands to make the Bucs’ secondary dangerous again.

I wish Biggers had held onto that first one thrown to him. It looked like an easy 6. We would’ve had a 17-0 lead.

I called it. I said before the game that Tanard Jackson was going to bring a whole new spark to this game.
Combine that with a mean loss to the 49ers last year, The total garbage the Media rained on them for the last week, and loosing someone like LGB and GMC. This team all the fire they needed to do something special.
I was nervous but thrilled to watch Jackson run onto the field on the opening defensive play. I was at the game so didn’t know if he was going to be a starter or not. But he played what looked (from the naked eye) very solid out there.
But come on man. First game after a year. With only 4 games to practice. Not only do you play but you start. Not only do you just play solid you snag a int. Something that has been eluding this team this year.
Pass coverage on D is still shaky. But this game they played pretty good. Brees had all day to throw the ball. Looks like GMC’s disruption actually has been helping the entire D lines play.

@Espo – the offensive player broke up the pass on Biggers’ first opportunity. Can’t really fault himn for that.
But later in the game (2nd quarter maybe?) Brees lofted one that looked like it came right down in Biggers’ hands, right by the sideline. They only showed one angle, but it looked like an easy pick that he just dropped.
Aaanyway, it was great to get the picks today. But there was at least one more out there that we didn’t grab.

Biggers is just consistently improving. I think Raheem is really molding this 7th round pick into a complete corner. We already saw flashes of him being a very good cover corner. But if this kid can start turning knocked down passes into int. He is going to be a shut down Guy. I mean for the last 2 years he has stood toe to toe with some pretty good receivers and held his own.

Is it true. Are we trying to sign Chad Spann? He seems like a great fit for what we need behind Blount in the future. Really Shifty, Runs hard and lays hits. Kind of small but gives his great center of balance so it’s hard to tackle him. He basically bounces right off. But has power to just run into you also. Nice. Hope we get him.

I was at the game on the side of the field where all the scoring occured. I can say that I though Biggers played a great game. He had a PI and failed to play the ball on the sideline rout in the 4th quarter. Other than that, he had it locked down pretty well.
Towards the end, the Saint’s mileage came over the middle on slants…MLB/Safety territory depending on the coverage. With the exception of some Jimmy Graham plays, the Saints were relatively unsuccesful with their reciovers outside….which is what a cover -2 does. We have 2 good corners 1 good safety and in mediocre safety…not too bad.

@941, Did you see the hit Tank laid on Graham, I think it was in the 3rd qtr, Graham went up for a catch and Tank nailed him square in the ribs and sent Graham to the sidelines trying to catch his breath. With more work, in a few weeks Tank will be in Football shape and make it thru the game w/o cramping or tiring out. Glad to have the Tank back.
