Here Comes The Option
October 4th, 2011Some fans might be talking about the Bucs going for it on 4th-and-1 to end the game, but Joe’s way more impressed by the go-for-it call on 4th-and-1 near the end of the third quarter in field goal range trailing by a touchdown.
That one saw Josh Johnson trot under center for his first snap of the game and run the option right for seven yards. LeGarrette Blount was with him, but Johnson calmly ran the keeper.
What a ballsy and stout call by Greg Olson and Raheem Morris.
Following that play, Chucky said on the TV broadcast that the Bucs aren’t using Johnson as much because they only have two quarterbacks on the roster. The implication was the Bucs are being cautious to avoid an injury to Johnson in the open field.
Joe hopes that’s not the case. Johnson’s got plenty to contribute. Olson just has to find a way to make it happen.

When I heard them say “Freeman’s on the sideline and backup Josh Johnson is in the game” I just shook my head and said here we go again.
It was a really ballsy call and a great play though. I still have a problem taking a legit franchise QB off the field in those situations (or any situation really).
Greg Olson called an outstanding game tonight.

If Johnson is on the field that means Freeman isn’t(most likely). I’d rather they keep the gadget/wildcat type plays with Johnson to a maybe once a game thing.

My hair is too short or I would’ve pulled it out when I saw the substitution. I’m just glad it worked.
I think Freeman could have done the same thing except his would be tackler would have a headache.

That’s definitely one of those calls that you better convert, or there would be some heavy hating! Thomas may have even come out of hibernation.

My god..what would the the Raheem haters have said if it had not worked???

Next time he will pitch it and it will be a TD 🙂
