Benn Has The Drops
September 21st, 2011The stats geeks over at BSPN.com have poured over game film and have outed Arrellious Benn as leading the league in dropped passes.
The Bucs haven’t fared well as a team, either.
Tampa Bay’s Arrelious Benn leads the league with three drops. The second-year pro has been targeted nine times and has five catches for 52 yards and a touchdown.
Two other big-name NFC South receivers are among a bunch of receivers who are tied for second with two drops each. They are Atlanta’s Roddy White and Carolina’s Steve Smith. But White and Smith have been targeted a lot more than Benn. White’s been targeted 17 times while Smith is tied for the league lead with 17 targets.
Of course, after two games, clobbering Benn for a few drops is silliness. But Bucs fans surely won’t react kindly to another highly-drafted receiver with a ton of potential that drops balls.

” White’s been targeted 17 times while Smith is tied for the league lead with 17 targets.”
Huh? So Smith and White are tied for the lead…right? smh

They have been targeted the most, but are tied fior second in the drop category. There are a bunch of dudes tied for 2nd.

Dont put a picture of Can’t Catch Clayton next two benn’s name aight joe. He don’t deserve that type of criticism yet haha. Michael Clayton’s been targeted 0 times and probably has 4 drops himself.

cue the second coming of ‘clayhands’ comments.

I’m more concerned that he can’t seem to ever get open except on the occasional fly pattern…

From the Buc fans to Regis Benn:
“We knew Michael Clayton, and you sir are no Michael Clayton.”

Mike Williams was near the top in drops last year. He also had 11 TD’s. Drops aren’t cool but when you also catch TD’s we fans tend to forget about the drops and Rejus went a long way towards redeeming himself with that beautiful TD last Sunday. The difference between guys like Williams and Benn vs. Mike Clayton is that Clayton not only dropped balls but also never caught touchdowns.

Let’s cut the guy some slack.
He had ZERO off-season, and was held back almost all of pre-season.
He more than made up for that drop on Sunday by separating and catching that TD.

I think his TD last weekend only evened up the Mike Williams TD he got called back with sloppy presnap motion.

He’s nowhere near Clayton’s level of stone hands. He’s also a burner, I don’t remember Clayton doing that. Reejus is just fine thanks

Benn is faster than I thought… He can just run by defenders

I don’t think a few drops this early is a problem. I didn’t notice ‘bad hands’ from Benn yet.
Me in HS in the back seat with a hottie…now those are ‘bad hands.’

Why are people blaming Benn for the Illegal Shift penalty? Yeah, he was the guy that wasn’t set for a full second before the snap, but who called for the snap? Didn’t Josh know that in that pre-snap adjustment that multiple players were in motion and all needed to be reset? Seriously, Benn doesn’t snap the ball, doesn’t call the snap count. He goes in motion when he’s told to go in motion. Free should have given one more second before calling for the snap.

tha JUGS machine will solve that problem

this is a manufactured story joe…. let’s see the stats after the second quarter.
Further, Benn is coming off an ACL and you should be cutting this guy some slack and highlighting that sweet and timely touchdown catch!
I read religiously but sometimes joe simply misses the mark IMO
