The Bucs “Took It”
September 19th, 2011Joe loves to read papers from opponents’ towns to get a vibe on how the other side views games.
By reading between the lines from a column typed by Tom Powers of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the Bucs beat the Vikings because the Bucs punched the Vikings in the mouth and the Vikings responded by curling up in a fetal position.
Here’s the other shocker: The Vikings didn’t commit a turnover Sunday. They did have a couple of bad penalties, but overall they didn’t shoot themselves in the foot. Their collapse came totally as a result of their deteriorating play. They didn’t give Tampa Bay anything. The Bucs just took it.
“They were getting pressure up front. We basically just made a couple of adjustments,” Freeman said. Where were the Vikings’ counter-adjustments? The Bucs went into a no-huddle offense and the Vikings’ defense acted as if a spaceship had just landed at midfield. I thought they all were going to run to the sideline to ask for special suits to protect them against radioactivity.
The best analysis I heard came from Allen: “They kicked the crap out of us in the second half.”
The Bucs did it with a no-huddle. They did it by pounding LeGarrette Blount. They did it by Davin Joseph, Jeremy Trueblood and Erik Lorig bruising the Vikings defense so much they didn’t want to attempt a tackle.

Lorig is turning into a very solid FB…. He was laying wood yesterday!!!! I agree that in the second half the Bucs just took it, the whole team played chippy and I loved it!!!!!

GOOD, Now do this in the first half of ball games so we dont have to wait for 3rd and 4th quarters to see some damn football!!!

While I won’t argue the results… I still can’t get my mind around the two different teams the Buc’s trotted out on Sunday.
How can a team go from utterly overmatched to completely overmatching between two halves is just bizarre at the NFL level.

@Cannon 2 dropped passes answers the question. You can’t score when balls bounce off the receivers hands.

Good now punch the F&%$& falcons in the mouth next week in the first quarter and all game to break their spirits

Joe, have any Minnesota folks complaining about how idiotic the Vikings were at the end of the game?
The Vikes ran out of time at the end of the game with all 3 timeouts in their pocket, because Frazier was too dumb to stop the clock on the Bucs’ last drive. As soon as we got into field goal range, we (smartly) started milking the clock. You have to assume we’d make that field goal, so we were best off leaving them with no time (regardless of whether we got the FG to tie or touchdown to take the lead).
So as soon as we got into FG range, Minn should’ve gone into clock-preservation mode, but didn’t. It was an obvious error at the time (but I was very thankful as I watched them let time tick away). Had they used those timeouts after we passed the 30, they would’ve had about 2:00 remaining after we scored rather than just 35 seconds.
Couple that with dumb special teams moves (on the prior series the kick returner fielded the ball 6 yards deep and only made it back to he 10), and I’d be screaming for the coach’s head.

Joke:
I noticed a couple of articles in the Minnesota papers calling out the Vikes for not using any timeouts late.

The best line….”The Bucs went into a no-huddle offense and the Vikings’ defense acted as if a spaceship had just landed at midfield. I thought they all were going to run to the sideline to ask for special suits to protect them against radioactivity”
Hilarious 😀 ……I won’t laugh too much on this one as I am superstitious when it comes to sports and I remember this feeling all too well from being a lifelong Buc’s fan.
