One Catch And Negative Yardage For Williams

Joe’s not sure how the Bucs still can’t complete a slant pass to Mike Williams or get him in a position to run after the catch.
Should it be this challenging?
Williams had one catch yesterday, an ill-called wide receiver screen that blew up and lost four yards, though he caught a gorgeous touchdown just prior, which was negated by Arrelious Benn’s illegal shift.
Joe doesn’t have access to coach’s tape, but Joe would be interested to see what kind of double teams, if any, are coming Williams’ way. Pat Kirwan and Tim Ryan of NFL Radio talked a lot during the preseason about how much attention Williams would get this season and how other guys would have to step up as a result.
There’s a reason Williams’ NFL peers voted him the 80th best player in the league via the NFL Network Top-100 feature. The Bucs have to make sure gets touches.
Joe never would have believed the Bucs could score 24 second-half points yesterday — all on offense — without Williams making a play.

I dunno, we are thick at WR! Benn, Briscoe, and Parker all have game! Don’t worry- Mike is too talented not to get his !!

From what I saw they had him doubled… ALOT. Part of the reason Parker was running free in the slot and why Benn was singled up with no safety on the TD catch (that and the safety coming up for Blount).
Either way, Olsen, the O-Line, the WRs, and Freeman HAVE to come out stronger in the first half against the Falcons.

Williams will get his as soon as Blount gets going.
Blount only got 13 carriest yesterday. We need to feem him early and often to get the offense on track. Once the run game is established, run some play action and let Williams win a 1 on 1 matchup.

That TD catch was a thing of beauty. Too bad it got called back because of lackluster, lazy presnap movement.

Yes, he’s definitely drawing a lot of attention. So is Winslow, as usual. And until guys step up like Parker did yesterday that won’t change. Freeman is going to have to rely on Briscoe, Benn, Parker & Stocker more than he thinks he will this year. If the Bucs can adjust quickly that won’t necessarily be a bad thing, either.

stevek is correct. blount needs to get going early and do it CONSISTENTLY! that will open up alot. williams td catch was beautiful! sucks that it was called back over something that small. nice to see preston parker come out of his shell. i hope he got the game ball yesterday. also, glad the minny defender (near end of the game) didn’t get that interception! that would’ve be game right there! although after looking at that play multiple times i do not think that would’ve Freeman’s fault had that been an interception bc winslow needed to help out prevent a possible int in that situation. hopefully atlanta is too banged up from last night and we can take it to them this sunday….GO BUCS!

Vikings planned for Williams, as other teams will. They didn’t plan for the other WR’s. In short time, most teams will see they will have problems devoting too much towards one guy when our other WR’s will beat you.

If the Bucs are using MW19 as bait to draw attention, Then he is making plays to free up guys like Briscoe and Parker.
Megatron only had 3 catches yesterday … Detroit scored 48 but he had 2 TDs in those 3 catches. MW19 is a similar threat. SHould have had a beauty of a TD.

I still dont get how this guy can make those sick catches. Who was that WR a while back that made catches like that? Damn…i forget his name. 80’s i think.
I dont like how the offense is so damn slow to start. We are not going anywhere like that this year. Josh Freemand went all Joe Montana in the 2nd half, but i dont see that happening every game.
Benn, Parker and Birscoe stepped up nicely though.

I’m not worried about it. Freeman will spread the ball around. Williams will get his touches.

It’s not that hard to figure out, people. Right now the Bucs are viewed as a passing team and Williams is viewed as our strongest weapon. Opponents are making sure he’s covered. In many cases, double covered.
