Here Comes The Bucs’ Spread Offense

Obviously, the continued growth and maturity of Josh Freeman is a key to the Bucs’ season.
How much better the guy can be after a 25-touchdown, six-interception season remains to be seen. But if Freeman truly is going to be one of the greats, then he should get even better this year all around.
Speaking today on the Ron and Ian Show on WDAE-AM 620, former Bucs tight end and current Buccaneers Radio Network analyst Dave Moore says fans should see the Bucs let Freeman loose if Sunday’s game is a tight one.
“Expect Greg Olson and Raheem to go to that spread offense. We heard Raheem talk a little bit about that when we beat [inaudible],” Moore said. “Freeman played well in preseason, it was, when they decided to spread out, kind of like you would see New England do with [Tom] Brady.
“Spread out, have one guy in the backfield, kinda call plays as he sees the defense. I think they feel like Freeman’s at the point mentally and in his maturity that he can handle conducting the offense out of a the shotgun and spread formation, something that is difficult to do with young quarterbacks.”
Moore went on to say he expects the Bucs to pound the ball with LeGarrette Blount early in the game to keep Detroit’s big pass rush off balance. And Moore says we’ll see consistent double teams of Ndamakong Suh.
Regarding pounding the ball with Blount, Joe will believe it when he sees it. There were so many times last year when Greg Olson seemed allergic to that tactic.

I think we’re going to see what Regis Benn is all about. I expect some reverses and quick screens to him. Anything to keep the D line off balance

We MUST stay committed to the run, until we can run, or Detroit will make us one dimensional, and tee off on Freeman.

The Spred Offense. Williams, Benn, Briscoe, and Winslow. Blount in the Backfield. Wow! Now that’s something to get excited about! I can’t wait to see that happen. That 6 pretty dangerous weapons to be waiting on an audible! That’ll be fun
In word on if Price is expected to play Sunday? If he’s ready, be nice to see him get a few reps, along side Clayborn, McCoy ,and Bowers. It’ll be fun to see if those four manage to be lined up together! Just a glimpse of the future!

Detroit’s weakness is their group of DBs. We should exploit that if possible.

Agree with Matt. Multiple WR sets with Winslow included will really stretch what little depth the Lions have at DB. They may have two good starting DB’s, but make them run with 4 DB’s on the field and they start to look very vulnerable. Attack their weakness. No mercy.

Wow. The topic of TJax has only been discussed a million times since last year.
Get this: he is suspended through the first two regular season games this year. He cannot even be considered for reinstatement until after the Minnesota game. He has to reapply at that point with Goodell, requesting to be reinstated. Goodell can decide to reinstate him immediately, make him wait one or more games additional, or refuse to reinstate him at all. Based on similar past suspensions he should be granted reinstatement before the game against Atlanta.
Joe…sorry for answering. Jumped the gun ’cause every Bucs fan should know TJax’s status like the back of their hand at this point.

i think we’ll see benn get alot of targets if detriot wants to stack a safety over williams and i think we’ll see williams playing multiple wr positions to exploit matchups.

This is backwards. They need to do what NE and INDY can’t and what the Cowboys of the 1990’s did: Pass early and often to get a lead and in the second half pound the RB.
NE and INDY are good at a lot of things, but running the clock down with a bruising running game is not one of them. Dallas did that in the 1990’s. That is how Emmit made a living and Blount would be perfect for that – pound him in the second half when the opposing D is worn down.
Plus, this week with the heat, Detroit’s D-Line would be primed for Blount to go at them in the second half

Bucs need to amp up the pace, spread it out, run hurry up, and get Suh and that Detroit D line dying of exhaustion in the heat. If they can do that in the first half and hopefully build a lead, they can then shift gears and start grinding it out with Blount in 2nd half.
If they come out in their usual slow, plodding, predictable 3 and out 1st Quarter offense we saw all last year – it will play right into Suh’s hands.
Freeman’s strength is the 2 minute drill. It gonna be damn hot. I agree completely with Moore – spread it out and turn Freeman loose.

I think the reason the running game didn’t take off last year is because Freeman kept the interceptions low. No quartback can do that all the time, so its likely this year Free will get more picks. And when that happens, expect the running game to take off in order to open up the passing game.
