Da’Quan Bowers: Designated Sacker
September 8th, 2011Many, many pundits believe that the steal of the draft this spring was pulled off by Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik when he plucked a free-falling Da’Quan Bowers in the second round.
The Clemson defensive end may have been one of the first players selected had not rumors about his bum knee surfaced and spooked NFL teams.
While Bowers may not start, Pat Yasinskas of ESPN believes Bowers will see significant playing time, sort of a designated pass rusher, so he wrote in a recent BSPN NFC South chat.
George (Union County Boy)
You think Daquan Bowers will tear it up this season boy? I love me some Clemson!
Pat Yasinskas
We’ll see. I think they’re going to start him off as a situational pass rusher. Not a bad thing because that’s what he does best.
That’s not a bad way to bring a guy along. The Bucs now have a bit of a luxury at defensive line. Let Bowers do what he does best and slowly indoctrinate him into life in the NFL. If he’s able to swim, let him go into deeper waters.
Depth on the defensive front is a very good thing.

Joe, I am not sure where I read it, it may have been on a tweet from the Bucs, that Morris says Bowers and bennet will get about the same amount of snaps. I wish I could find the quote…
September 8th, 2011 at 4:39 pm
Joe, found it…
TBBuccaneers Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Coach says that starter Michael Bennett & rookie Da’Quan Bowers will both play extensively at LE Sunday. The snaps could end up about even.

How about Sir Eat-a-lot , Blubber Price? How many snaps will I see ??
September 8th, 2011 at 4:45 pm
Bowers is going to beast over the weak Lions OL.
I am predicting a sack for him in the opener, and multiple pressures.
Dude is a manchild
September 8th, 2011 at 4:47 pm
I believe we’re gonna have Stafford under pressure most of the game. I just hope they aren’t able to return the favor on Freeman.
September 8th, 2011 at 4:51 pm
Im a big Bowers fan….the dude is a seriously talented player
September 8th, 2011 at 5:04 pm
Bowers is an animal! Plus I’m pretty sure he’s got a serious chip on his shoulder! He thought he could be the first pick 3 weeks before the draft! I’d sure have something to prove!

Wow, that comment about Brian Price is jacked up. The guy is coming off a potentially career ending injury where BOTH of his hamstrings were ripped from his pelvis and your calling him out for being over weight? That is low man. Grow up.

joe, so when aqib talib shuts megatron down do we call him optimus
September 8th, 2011 at 7:23 pm
Though Bennett and Bowers may see the same number of snaps at LDE, I’m confident that Bennett will see more total snaps as he will likely kick inside often during nickel situations and rush as a DT.
September 8th, 2011 at 7:27 pm
ty:
Joe will call Talib a Pro Bowl candidate.
(Joe doesn’t know what “optimus” is. Sorry.)
September 8th, 2011 at 7:31 pm
… the protagonist to megatrons antagonist.
September 8th, 2011 at 9:00 pm
@Dan lol That is the correct thing to call him.
September 8th, 2011 at 9:19 pm
Aqib Prime? Optimus Talib?
Wow, the Packers are making the Saints look like chumps right now. As a lifetime Bucs fan, it is STRANGE to hate on the Saints instead of the Packers 🙂
September 8th, 2011 at 9:41 pm
I was sure he was designated slacker until i read more carefully.
September 8th, 2011 at 9:47 pm
@SkookumSmitty
Every Tampa fan should want the Saints to lose
September 8th, 2011 at 9:51 pm
@patrick its strange because thepackers for years were in our division
September 8th, 2011 at 10:15 pm
^What Dan said^
Sorry, but GO PACKERS still feels strange to me.
September 8th, 2011 at 10:34 pm
not as weird as go favre would.
September 8th, 2011 at 10:41 pm
Watching the packers whoop the saints is making me wish we had spent some mother$#@!^% money and got sproles. WOW is he blowing up!
I like Aqib Prime
September 8th, 2011 at 11:37 pm
Dan: “not as weird as go favre would.”
Also true!
September 8th, 2011 at 11:44 pm
What JRock said!!!!!!!
We could really use a scat back w/ explosiveness…that is our weakest position!!
September 9th, 2011 at 12:50 am
teams that dont seem to have that position- steelers, greenbay, bucs, falcons…
we’d rather have players on our team not gimmicks. other good teams seem to have the same plan.
September 9th, 2011 at 4:03 am
At LG we have Larsen, at RT we have Trueblood, at SS we have Sean Jones, but somehow you think RB(Blount) is the weakest position on the team….. Sometimes I read the most ridiculous things in the JBF comment sections.
September 9th, 2011 at 7:30 am
Mauha…LOL, right. I will say that Jones and larson played ok last year, and True looked good in the preseason, compared to the other OL men not named Penn. I do not think the dude above was refering to Blount, but for some reason people think you need a small fast guy to go with Blount. The league seems to be getting away from them, but Spoles did look good last night. If the TE play of the Pack is any indicater, Winslow should have a huge day against NO.
Right now the Bucs are tied for fisrt place!
September 9th, 2011 at 7:36 am
Yeah , Westcoast.
I forgot that being injured gives you the excuse to become morbidly obese. Apparently Arrelious Benn didn’t get the memo ??
September 9th, 2011 at 8:24 am
Dude!! What’s your malfunction? Price was bed ridden and immobile for over three months!!! He couldn’t do ANY exercise- upper body, Cardio, NOTHING. The fact that he is walking, in condition to play Football at all is a small miracle! You break your pelvis, and have both your hamstrings tear loose from the bones, then you can talk, until then, stop shining your ignorance.
September 11th, 2011 at 9:18 am
He wasn’t so immobile that it prevented him from lifting the Big Mac to his pie-hole , obviously
You don’t gain 70 pounds from bed rest alone. You can still eat healthy- especially when your livlehood depends on it.
Keep making excuses.
