Shaun King Says Bucs Finish 7-9

You could hear the agony in former Bucs quarterback Shaun King’s sullen voice today. The man even prefaced his latest prognostication with a story of how he’s rooted for the Bucs since the days of his youth in St. Petersburg when he snuck out of church to go to games because they were blacked out.
After much study, King said, he predicts a 7-9 finish for the 2011 Buccaneers.
“This is very hard for me,” King said today while co-hosting The King David Show on WQYK-AM 1010.
King said the Bucs have “no dynamic playmakers to beat some of these opponents.” And King went on to say the Bucs’ defense is not ready to hold up at a winning standard.
“I tried to get it to 8-8; I couldn’t do it,” King said of his analysis of the schedule.
For those who listen to King, this comes as a bit of a surprise. He might have been the only local media member to call a winning record for the Bucs last season at this time. Joe knows King takes his study of the Bucs seriously. And King has spoken on his show of watching coach’s tape — not DVR/VCR stuff — of many recent Bucs games.
Joe sure wishes he could be a fly on the wall when Raheem Morris hears of this.

He probably said that before news broke that Peyton Manning had another surgery today and is for months (or prob the year). Predictions are worthless. Lets play and see.

IMHO:
NFL blackout rules are in effect for all games, preseason, regular season (including Thursday, Sunday, Monday nights and Thanksgiving) and postseason.

What is a “dynamic playmaker”? You mean someone like DeSean Jackson, I guy who averages less than 2.5 catches a game and had half the touchdowns of our rookie? I bet he thinks Dez Bryant is a dynamic playmaker too.
Practically every receiver on our team made some amazing dynamic plays last year. Stroughter with THE sideline catch which put us in position to win the game. Williams with the jump catch in the corner of the endzone over two defenders on 4th and inches. Too many to count with Blount. Kellen Winslow making a TD catch sandwich between a defender in front of him and a defender behind him.
I don’t know what games he was watching last year but they certainly weren’t Bucs games.

“lack dynamic play makers” Really…Freeman, Williams, Blount, and Winslow come to mind on offense. Talib, Grimm, and barber come to mind on the defense. I will not even go into the potential play makers that looked like they were coming on last year or in preseason, since they are still unproven. What does King want, most teams only have a handfull of “dynamic play makers”. Damn, King helped TB get to the NFC championship game, and he was not even close to a “dynamic play maker”. Maybe he is still upset about McCoy and him having the same amount of Pineapples in their diets.

Any prediction based on preseason, whether VHS, coaches DVD or freaking IMAX 3D, is worthless. He can analyze all day long. The preseason has no correlation with the regular season. It never has. Anything more that this is pure speculation.

I consider Freeman, Mike, K2, Talib and T Jack when he gets back, dynamic playmakers, Shaun.
I really don’t see 9 teams that we’ll lose to. Say we split with ATL and NO and sweep Carolina, that’s a good division record, then out of division we have the Manning-less Colts (W) the Titans (W) the dysfunctional Jaguars (W), the Vikings without the best nose tackle in the game (W) the QB-less 49ers that we spanked last year (W). I think we can beat Chicago, but just to show you we can still have a good record, I’ll say loss. We have the Cowboys at home, which is another one we can win, but I’ll say loss.
That’s 9 logical wins , assuming we lose to the very good/elite teams we play, Houston, Green Bay, Dallas, Chicago and NO and ATL twice. The reason these predictions are stupid however, is that there are going to be upset losses and upset wins every year. We’re going to beat one of the teams I listed as a L and we’re going to lose to one of the teams I listed as a W.
If I’m making a bet though, it’s for 9 wins. Too talented for sub-500 record.

If I were not a fan of the bucs I would agree with Mr.King…but I am a optimist and a fan and I think we can go 9-7 atleast.

I’ve been predicting 6-10 to 8-8. So King agrees with me 100%. The Bucs improved their win total last year by 7 wins over the previous season. Looking at NFL history, teams that do that very typically regress the following season. And looking at this schedule, I dont see 10 wins. And if you do….where? What 10 games do you see the Bucs winning?

I have listened to Shawn King, he does not come across as a devoted Buc fan thats for sure. He could be right but I think his opinion is as good as anyone elses… Worthless. He would be the first one to say “Hey you never played the game so don’t doubt me” but I am on record to say he is full of donkey doo. Shawn King is no better prognosticator than Peter King and we know what dribble he puts out. Thanks Shawn I hope you choke on this prediciton. Last time I listen to his garbage show….

They haven’t even played their first down yet, and this bitter clown is already calling them losers. I don’t see it and would say this is a very uneducated guess by King to try and stay on the safe side.

lets see: Detroit, Atlanta, Indianapolis, San Francisco, Chicago, Tennessee, Carolina, Jacksonville, Dallas, Carolina
There is 10 with us splitting with the Falcs and getting swept by the Saints, give or take a win/loss against Detroit/Minny/Houston I can easily see the Bucs anywhere from 9-7 to 11-5

Predictions are like you know what, EVERY ONE HAS ONE.
It is impossible to predict , until we see a real game.
The pre-season is useless and told us absolutely nothing.

I don’t care if the bucs go 2 and 14 just make sure those two wins are against Atlanta and I’ll be happy, mission accomplished. This is a step back year anyway, every good young team does it a la 98 bucs, it will be a very fun season but 8 and 8 will be a great mark. 2012 will be the year of the bucs!

Shaun King is objective and a very astute football evaluator.
I think that I was leaning to 6-10 to 8-8 range. If they get 12 or so 2nd and 3rd string quarterbacks again – maybe 9-7.
It seems that they did catch a break with Payton likely being out when they come here but that game is still no gift.

I don’t have a problem with King predicting us 7-9. It means absolutely nothing, just his opinion. He doesn’t know, I don’t know, Thomas (definitely) doesn’t know, no one knows what’s going to happen. I stopped trying to predict the season years ago, because I found it worthless. We don’t know what’s going to happen with injuries, or even how we are going to gel after a shortened offseason. The one thing I would predict is a lot of close, nail-biting games. We seem to play our best when we are down and the game is close. All that being said, I see no reason whatsoever why we shouldn’t be a playoff team, and anything less is a disappointment.

I went on record and predicted 10-6 last season and have the evidence to back it up. I’ve gone on record stating the Bucs win at least 11 games this season.
I’m actually pretty happy that the Bucs get no national or local respect, this seems to be a team that thrives on proving people wrong. Throw the stats out the window, #5 is the great equalizer, an improved defense will put us over the top. I predict a very quick start for the NFL’s youngest team.

NFC championship game predicted loss to the Packers? I’d take that.
But both these guys have no clue. Who cares. I predict skittles will fall from the sky from a magical rainbow tomorrow stretching from St. Pete to Tampa. Take that one to the bank if you dare!

2-4 or 3-3 in the division;
I think that they will win 4 or 5 more, some combination of Detroit, Indy, jax, sf, minn, tenn.
I think that they will be prohibitive underdogs and lose the remaining 4 games (dal,gb,chi,hou)
Of course, I concede that this could swing a game or 2. For example, I have them beating Detroit and either atl or no once, those losses could swing us to 6-10, wins to 8-8, if they steal one additional maybe 9-7 assuming no other surprise losses.

Hawaiian: I commend you that all this prediction business is really hogwash due to factors like injuries etc. It is purely guess-work. For example, the bucs schedule last year would have been totally different if they faced team’s playing their best qb options, not the max halls, Jimmy clausens, Troy smiths, Jake delhommes, charlie whitehurst, Rex gross mans, chase Daniels of the world.

I think we have our best offense ever. The defense can keep us in games. With a couple of key turnovers we have as much of a chance at a Super Bowl as anyone.

Wow, quite a bit of hate on Shaun King. Yes he was never pro bowl quarterback but seriously, could any of you have competed for a practice squad spot for the f-ing Bengals at any point in your lifetime? I like his prediction because he is not being a homer, not that I agree. I think the Bucs go 9-7 or 10-6. Both of the Falcons games were down to the wire and the Saints are beatable. We can hang with both of those teams and if we can hang with them we can hang with any team. Im not saying we are better but we are close enough to these teams that a few lucky things bounce our way and we could get the win. Im not sayin Im just sayin. Go Bucs.

I don’t agree with Shawn either, however…he had one good year as a starter. Technically, that’s all Josh Freeman has had too.
Mind you, I’m not saying Freeman won’t have the better career…but just that your statement isn’t completely accurate RIGHT NOW.

On this, Shaun is certainly wrong.
We have Josh Freeman, of course. But our other playmakers are:
Mike Williams
L. Blount
Sammie Stroughter
Michael Spurlock (he will end up doing the returns eventually, and he is a playmaker there, not to mention he has soft hands)
Ronde Barber
Aqib Talib
Kellen Winslow
And then you have the players that should be taking a step forward this year:
A. Benn
GMC
Miller
Okam
Biggers
Black
And then you have the unknowns…the rookies:
Foster
Bowers
Clayborn
Shaun is right about this one. The offense is going to have to keep this team winning in the beginning. It’s just unrealistic to expect such a young and inexperienced defense to do well out of the gates.
It will likely take 5-8 games for the defense to “start” improving. So in the meantime, the offense needs to step up. In previous years, there was no chance of this. Things have changed now.
Of course…we have a lot of guys on defense that are full of energy and eager to prove themselves. There is a chance they can excel from the beginning, but it’s a slim one. Expect less from them at the start, and rejoice if they prove you wrong.
And make no mistake. Right now, the Bucs are ALL offense.
With only a 24% chance of making the playoffs if they lose against the Lions, the Bucs will need a win this week. And to have a good offense this year, the offensive line will have to play better than in the preseason.
In reality, the Bucs will live or die by our offensive line this year…at least in the first half of the season.
Remember as well…the Bucs tend to run low on energy in the second half of the first few games each year. This is because rookies don’t realize how fast live game action is and how much energy it uses up. They’ll need to adjust.

I prefer King over Rome and the Babe in that time slot. I don’t always agree with him, but he’s the best we’ve got in the area for that slot.
See now, that’s where you are wrong. It’s reasonable to think that the Bucs defense will slowly improve from game-to-game. That means there’s a good chance that they finish strong, given our offense as well.
I think we’ll beat the Panthers 2x, the Saints 1x and the Falcons 0x-1x.
If we can go 5-3 in the first half of the season, we can still hit 10-6 for the year. We could even do so if we start 4-4 as well, though it would be much harder.
I’m sticking to my 10-6 prediction from an earlier article. And if you want to see the game breakdowns, look up that article where I posted…I’m not doing it again.

One man’s prediction, means nothing. I am sure no one with any sort of football IQ had them going 10-6 last year, but when they did it was “but the schedule was weak!” whatever…
I predict 9-7 AT WORSE with the possibility of winning 11 now with Manning gone from Indy
I say that because I see 3 losses: ATL, NO, Packers (colts used to be here) as well
I see these games as toss ups: Houston, Detroit, Colts, Cowboys
Everything else is a win. That is 9-7 if they loose every toss up game.
They win some of the toss up games you are looking at 10-11 wins
