Tyrone McKenzie And Kyle Moore Are Cut

Today we’ve learned that helping organize lockout practice and flying to Nebraska to watch film with Barrett Ruud doesn’t mean a hill of beans.
Tyrone McKenzie, who did those things this offseason, was cut today, so Twittered Bucs beat writer Anwar Richardson of TBO.com.

Considering McKenzie won internal team honors for special teams last season, this comes as a surprise. Apparently, the Bucs see in McKenzie what Bill Belicheat did.
Update: 12:57 p.m. — Richardson, as well as Sirius NFL Radio, is reporting sackless Kyle Moore has been released. CBS Sports Radio also says DT John McCargot is gone, too. Moore is no surprise, considering Adrian Clayborn, Da’Quan Bowers, Tim Crowder and Michael Bennett were locks at DE. Moore appeared to be coming on but his time has passed.

Have to say it is surprising, though he was reminding me of Ruud last night, maybe that is the problem. He wasn’t moving forward when engaging blockers, he was moving backwards. So he was making a bunch of tackles 10 yards down the field.
But, who else do the Bucs have at MLB? I had to check their website to see the name, that was two minutes ago and I already can’t remember the dudes name, so it’s not like there was another guy in the middle making plays.

Derrell Smith or Simoni Lawrence must have really impressed for them to feel comfortable making this move. Wow. The Bucs get younger seemingly with every move. Hope this pans out.

^^^”Locker room leader”? Just because he helped put together some Lockout workouts? This kid received way too much hype from the media types for that.
I like McKenzie but he never looked all that great when I watched him. Most likely, that along with him whining about not having a chance to start was the reason he was cut. I’m sure that didn’t sit too well with the higher-ups and the coaching staff.

Saw the Moore cut coming, but McKenzie surprises me. Knew he wouldn’t start, but I thought he would at least be depth. Would not surprise me if he’s claimed off waivers.

Tyrone should have kept his mouth shut about the depth chart. I remember another defensive player that did that last year and he’s gone too. Sabby the Goat. LOL.

If he clears waivers, Moore is Practice Squad eligible still. Not sure about McKenzie.

Dew, I agree. I think this was more about Smith or Lawrence impressing enough to make the staff feel comfortable letting McKenzie go but I also agree with you that the second reason was probably about rocking the boat and questioning the motives & integrity of the staff. That’s a no no, especially for a player that’s not established.

You know I had a sneaking suspicion that might happen. But wasn’t sure because he might have had the most knowledge of the system of any of our MLBs. Are we only keeping 5 LB’s to go heavy at another position now? Or who is the wild card here? hmmm…If Foster gets hurt, do we slide Black over to the MLB spot and insert Watson?

McKenzie is a surprise.
I think it is a combination of the two things people are mentioning:
1. He should have kept his mouth shut
2. Smith must be really impressing.

My thinking is they’ll go with Black as a backup MLB to Foster, meanwhile Black can play his regular positions.

Mckenzie didnt question the organization, he said that foster had won the starting job. Yes this was a mistake in his part, but he wasnt angry about it. Plus he is a great locker room guy, leader, and hard worker, and overall great guy! This is one of the sadest cuts! Hope he does great somewhere else. And No the other MLBs werent good!

Pete D, Keep in mind the rules for PUP and the practice squad (PS) when you are trying to hide or save players from the guillotine. If you went to camp and practiced on the active roster, you are not eligible for PUP. You have 2 years eligibility for the PS. If you have been on the active roster for more than 6 games (or 9 if it’s your first accrued season), you are not eligible for the PS. If you clear waivers and make it to the PS, you will be paid $5700 a week and can only practice. In other words no Kyle Moore to the PS. New rule this year – they should have named it the Dominik Rule because of his infamous theft of Briscoe from the Bengals. Any player taken from another PS must count against the 53 man roster for three weeks before he can be placed on the PS. In other words, you have to cut somebody to get another teams PS member and it must be 6 days before your next game to prevent gameplanning.

Surprises some of you guys that McKenzie was cut, doesn’t surprise me, I stated he would probably be cut 2 weeks ago. Considering Dakoda Watson and Adam Hayward would get into games before McKenzie, who showed little in the preseason, there’s little point to keeping him around, especially with Simoni Lawrence showing he can be that developmental 6th LB (if we keep one) with the upside McKenzie lacks.
Also said Moore would be cut and that George Johnson would have the upperhand on the battle to possibly take the 5th DE spot if there is one.

I agree that Black is the backup MLB but I still think another LB has to make the team and I think it is Smith, unless that guy is coming off waivers from somewhere else.
JROCK: McCargo had one good showing and has McCoy, Price, Miller, and Okam in front of him. Plus add in the fact that Bennett can play inside in situations…. there is no way 5 DTs make the squad.
They need LBs for special teams, maybe a 4th TE

Kyle Moore blossomed a year too late… if he has that is. He started showing alot of promise but needed to show it last year when he got playing time.

Pete you think they will keep Crompton or go with 2 QBs? I guess if you keep Spurlock he could be you emergency QB. I like Gant too but not over Parker. Gaitor made this team, I’m not so sure about A. Black.
Ryan Neece kept saying how well Somoni impressed him last night, so maybe that’s another reason they felt comfortable letting Mckinzie go. I think George Johnson (67) earned a practice quad spot.

There is a reason many players flash in the 4th preseason game .. And sometimes it is just because the players they are tackling will be bouncers and beermen in a few days.
I thought Lawrence played Ok .. If he makes our roster … It just shows a complete lack of depth at LB now

We didn’t steal Briscoe from the Bengals practice squad. He was put on waivers with the intent of being signed to the Bengals practice squad once he cleared. Once he cleared waivers, both the Bengals and Bucs attempted to lure him to their practice squads, but the Bucs won out by paying the rookie minimum active roster salary to a practice squad guy. If the same scenario were to come up again this year, we still wouldn’t have to wait 3 weeks or cut someone from the 53 man roster. Briscoe was officially a free agent when we signed him to the practice squad.
Now, Blount is a different story. He was waived by the Titans, and we claimed him before he cleared waivers. At that point, we have to keep him on the active roster (which we did). By claiming him before he clears waivers, we don’t have to compete with other teams on salary or anything, it’s based on your previous year record. So, having been 3-13 the prior year, we were pretty much guaranteed to get any waiver claim we wanted.

In Morris’ press conference today he mentioned six LB’s by name: Foster, Black, Hayes, Hayward, Watson and Smith. Wonder if that was a hint that Smith is making the roster. He didn’t mention Lawrence at all.

He made his proclamation of a big announcement coming the following day and the next thing he said nearly 2 days later was that he was going to attend the Texas Tech football game this weekend. I assumed it was wrestling… but according to other people, he’s been seen walking around on crutches and when he was asked if he was waived or injured, all he would say is that he left Tampa on bad terms.

Judging from the press conference, Raheem spoke of 9 defensive linemen on the team. The top 8 were predictable, Al Woods was not mentioned, nor was any of the guys cut, he did mention George Johnson as having showed he could help the team inside and out… he did play some DT against the Pats and was able to penetrate into the backfield several times. It seeems George Johnson is on the active roster, we keep 5 DEs, and 4 DTs.

And no mention of Simoni Lawrence, which is crazy because he really stood out on tape, live, and on the stat sheet. Considering he’s actually younger than any of the other LBs that will make the roster, it’s puzzling why they don’t get him on the roster over Smith. Lawrence is active, athletic, and aggressive. He should be retained.
