Elbert Mack Everywhere; Myron Lewis Hobbled
September 1st, 2011Joe was pleased to see Elbert Mack really come to play tonight and cap off a strong preseason. His final line had nine tackles and two passes defensed.
Mack signed a restricted free agent tender after the asinine lockout, so the Bucs were going to pay him for 2011 regardless, but Joe isn’t seeing Mack getting cut anytime soon because of his play.
As for Myron Lewis, this guy just can’t stay healthy. He left tonigh’ts game early with an ankle injury. Yeah, he had a couple of decent games at the end of 2010, but he missed a ton of time last season and more this year.
Cruel as it may be, staying healthy is part of the game, and Lewis can’t do it.

Hey Joe do you actually like Mack as a contributor on this team? I dont see the guy as anything but depth and I dread the thought of him actually stepping in when it matters. I’ve got nothing against the guy personally (from what i’ve seen he is a quite a character) but I cant stop seeing him get torched repeatedly when he actually gets playing time in the regular season. He’s always seems to play too short and a step or two too slow.
p.s. every time I say “Hey Joe” I hear Jimi Hendrix in my head. It’s kinda nice. lol

Gaitor looked good too
September 2nd, 2011 at 12:45 am
I kind of liked Anthony Gaitors play a little better. The kid was all over the field. Raheem loves him too so i think he sticks. Feel bad for Ahmad Black I would like to see him stick, maybe the practice squad but he never got on the field. As far as Mack he is a roller coaster but does make some spectacular plays then gets burned one or two plays later. Overall I did like a couple of his run stops but for some reason I think Gaitor might take his spot. That call will be interesting among the DB’s and whats to do with Myron Lewis the guy just can’t stay on the field either. I like our DB’s this year.

Joe here,
Keep in mind Mack signed a restricted free agent tender, which is guaranteed money. He’s also a factor on special teams.
September 2nd, 2011 at 12:52 am
Gaitor makes this roster, guaranteed. No matter how it has to happen it will happen. Take it to the bank.
Gant needs to be given a roster spot. If they try to move him to the practice squad he’s gone.

Joe here,
No question that Gaitor is in considering how Raheem was talking about the kid this week. They don’t talk you up if they’re trying to sneak you on the practice squad.

Hoping they keep 6 WR’s so Gant has a spot. Would hate to lose either Parker or Gant.

Btw, to Thomas and all the other doubters:
Matt Cassell and Tony Moeaki left last night’s game with injuries. So much for Haley’s brilliant dress rehearsal on week 1 of preseason to avoid injury…
People who think we’re gonna cut Myron Lewis are crazy. You don’t cut a third rounder unless he’s failed miserably. Buggers never even saw the field his first year due to injury.

Hmmm, that secondary not lookingvery good now. Talib gimpy, Lewis probably to I.R., now we have The Great Ronde Barber, and a buncha other guys- E.J.Biggers, “Skid” Mack, and Anthony” get that skinny kid a sandwich” Gaitor. We better pray that Ronde, at age 36, stays healthy and plays at the sane high level. Otherwise our secondary will be called ” Tha Tampa Bay Toaster pastries!” , cause that buch isn’t shutting down the groups of WRs we are seeing this year- dream all you want, they can’t.

lewis might want to get healthy and contribute some time in the next month because as soon as tanard jackson is reinstated somebody in that db room could be getting the axe.

Sad to say it, but even from secton 400 Mack’s good play stood out like a sore thumb. So did Simoni Lawrence’s and Devin Holland’s, even Redskins fans around me were asking about those 3. Of course the idiot Redskins fans around me kept booing when Jacob Rogers, our 2nd string kicker, would shank the ball out of bounds. They thought he was kicking it away from Brandon Banks. I tried explaining to them that both teams would rather evaluate their special teams play and the guy was a kicker, not a punter. But there’s no reasoning with stupid people.

I’m so tired of Mack showing up in preseasons only to let down during real games. His play reminds me all too much of “He Who Shall Not Be Named”.
I see Gaitor as Ronde’s replacement. The kid has the same skill set. I hope he puts on a little bit of weight, but in the mean time, he looks like a great pick up.
(And by “Ronde’s replacement” I mean a CB that will blitz, be big in the run game, and shut down the nickel spot)

Lewis will be cut by next year if he can’t get on the field. And when he’s on the field, he’s not all that good. Maybe he’s a slow learner besides being fragile.
September 2nd, 2011 at 8:30 am
Nto sure what happens to lewis right now but Mack appears safe.
Another reason to NOT go to 18 games.
To round out your team and give the young guys a chance, they need 4 preseason games.
Looks like Talib, Barber, Biggers, Gaitor, and Mack right now. Not sure what they do with Lewis. DJ might go pactice squad.
September 2nd, 2011 at 9:10 am
Mack will not make the team before Lewis. It is only Lewis’ second year. RahmDom do not toss drafted players that quick. Look at all the chances Kyle Moore has gotten. Do you really think they will drop a third round pick(Lewis) after one year? This is also why I doubt Ahmad Black will be cut. Dominick’s lively hood and job as a GM rests on his draft picks. He hasn’t made any big free agency moves so if his cuts his draft picks he is cutting everything he has done.
September 2nd, 2011 at 10:14 am
For every great play Mack makes, he gets burned on a play. He’s a liability because he is not consistent in any way. I don’t want him on the Bucs
September 2nd, 2011 at 11:01 am
Joe, Mack misses so many tackles that he is an extreme liability. He also makes too many mistakes in coverage. Give the new guys the opportunity. I would also cut Lewis because he is hurt all the time, put him on the practice sq and see if he heals up for next year.
September 2nd, 2011 at 11:39 am
Guys are right who say Mack always shows up in offseason and preseason but ends up looking subpar in the regular season. How many times do we have to be fooled? Michael Clayton or Maurice Stovall, anyone?
Gaitor simply looks like a natural. Wow. I like this kid. His athletic ability, burst, nose for the ball and his pop on contact remind me a hell of a lot of the play of Tanard. And just like Tanard he plays bigger than he is. Very tough. He’s going to be a mainstay on this team for years to come.
September 2nd, 2011 at 11:42 am
In fact, Gaitor plays a lot like I expected Ahmad Black to play. Too bad that ankle cut short Black’s preseason. He’ll end up on the practice squad and hopefully be able to contribute later in the season if needed. Other teams won’t snatch a guy off a practice squad who’s injured and who put absolutely nothing on tape in the preseason. I hope, anyway.

FLBoyInDallas Shame on you! Never speak the name of “He Shall Not Be Named”! (80)
