Freeman Not In 2010 Form
August 27th, 2011Those looking for Josh Freeman to walk away from tonight’s game after a razor sharp outing were left disappointed.
By Joe’s count, Freeman threw four ugly passes, two of which easily could have been intercepted on the opening drive. Weren’t the Bucs focusing on starting strong?
Freeman finished 12-for-23 for 149 yards and didn’t look comfortable at times.
Freeman set such a high standard last year and, since it’s “all about No. 5,” it’s downright scary to think he might not earn all-world honors again this season.
Joe’s surely got a ton of confidence in Freeman. That’s not going to change. But he’s got to be damned perfect for the Bucs to get to the playoffs.

It’s har to be comfortable knowing that Ted Larsen is going to ole’ block a few guys every so often. I noticed that Larsen was finally replaced by Zuttah while the rest of the 1st stringers were in there… hopefully a sign of things to come. Between Zuttah and Carter, I’m happy with either.

Josh looks wide-eyed and unsure of the defensive calls. He is definitely unsettled. I noticed last year when Josh would walk to the line to bark out signals, Cadillac would go with him and vocalize as well. In the early days of horse racing a goat was placed in the stable with a spirited thoroughbred to keep him calm. Opposing trainers would try to steal the goat away hoping it would upset the thoroughbred making it less likely to win. Hence we get the phrase today “get your goat”. I hope Freeman has not lost his goat!! This may not be the reason at all, but is a good story anyway!!

He had very poor mechanics early in game. He leans back and throws off back foot. As a result his passes sail high. In 2 minute drive he started stepping into throws. He is much better in an up tempo offense. Olsen needs to run hurry up more often.

Freeman looked terrible. His throws were sailing high, he threw off his back foot many times, his decision making in trying to ‘loft’ that pass to Blout should have been a Miami INT. His throws lacked ZIP like JJ’s throw’s. The only time Freeman looked comfortable was when he was scrambling.
I know Freeman will only play the first series next week but come on man he is NOT ready for prime time – yet.

I watched the game from the endzone. He was definitely off-target quite a bit.. but I also noticed that they didn’t have him throw a pass over 8 (Could’ve been 12) yards all game. The 50 yarder to Blount was a checkdown and then Blount created the rest. It was a great play, but it wasn’t a deep shot. It seemed to me that he just needed to air out the deep pass. Just a thought, but I wonder if this is the reason that we had so many 4th quarter comebacks last year. He had the chance to go deeper.
