Gerald McCoy Hurt
August 5th, 2011Maybe the first nasty injury of the preseason just occurred at One Buc Palace during the Bucs practice this afternoon.
Details are sketchy about what happened to defensive tackle Gerald McCoy but reports are his day is done as he left the field in pain, per Woody Cummings of the Tampa Tribune.
@TBO_Buccaneers: McCoy now has a large wrap around his right shoulder. Looks like they’re icing it.
Damnit. GMC was just turning the corner last year when he tore a biceps and now it appears he’s got a bum right shoulder, after all the work in the offseason he did and how he has taken over as the leader of the defensive front.
As one can imagine, Joe hopes this is just minor.
UPDATE: Rick Stroud of the St. Petersburg Times reported that GMC’s injury could be a stinger and that he ripped his shoulder pads off right away.
UPDATE II: Rick Brown of the Lakeland Ledger Twittered that Bucs trainers are icing down GMC’s right shoulder.
UPDATE III: Per Stroud, Bucs trainer Todd Toriscelli escorted GMC into One Buc Palace.
UPDATE IV: Cummings quotes Mark Dominik via Twitter that GMC’s injury “nothing scary” and he is day-to-day.
August 5th, 2011 at 5:36 pm
Hmmmm…conflicting reports. Tampa Trib is saying it is his other tricep.
August 5th, 2011 at 5:38 pm
Scotty in Fat Antonio:
Five separate sources including Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune — all five are at practice — report right shoulder being iced down.
August 5th, 2011 at 5:39 pm
Anwar Richardson is also saying it’s his right bicep.
August 5th, 2011 at 5:40 pm
The first negative with Twitter and training camp: second by second injury updates with no actual info. Calm down people! This is already getting ridiculous…
August 5th, 2011 at 5:45 pm
I pulled my groin reading this.
August 5th, 2011 at 5:46 pm
Hopefully it is a stinger.
August 5th, 2011 at 5:47 pm
That is no good, please just be a stinger.
August 5th, 2011 at 5:50 pm
the season does not start for another month….
who the hell is watching the bandwagon ?
August 5th, 2011 at 5:52 pm
Yeah, we did brink back Okam, and we got Woods. Price is on the mend. Our D tackle position is going to get awesome under Coach Milliard.
August 5th, 2011 at 5:52 pm
The Band. Who else?
August 5th, 2011 at 6:03 pm
They weren’t doing anything when it happened he just wanted to see the new hot masoose.
August 5th, 2011 at 6:14 pm
this is fking ridiculous, right now McCoy is looking like an injury prone player, not a bust yet because its way to early to call him that. but stop getting fkin injured holy ****.
August 5th, 2011 at 6:16 pm
@Shayne,
It is way too early to start calling someone injury prone because he got dinged up in training camp and missed a few games last year. Injuries happen all the time in football. It sounds like this is nothing serious anyway, just precautionary. Take a deep breath buddy, it will be okay.
August 5th, 2011 at 6:18 pm
I hope Dr. Dom is right. He sure spit that diagnosis out in a hurry.
August 5th, 2011 at 6:21 pm
Hawaiian Buc:
Hasn’t stopped Thomas.
August 5th, 2011 at 6:26 pm
Joe I know its your site but please dont call him, he is surely
typing as we speak
August 5th, 2011 at 6:27 pm
Good point Joe.
August 5th, 2011 at 6:29 pm
Thanks for the heads up. I’m outtttttttttttta here.
August 5th, 2011 at 6:29 pm
@mwesley,
Thomas is probably not typing yet, he is too busy dancing for joy in the streets of Tampa.
August 5th, 2011 at 6:31 pm
Dare I ask what he is wearing?
August 5th, 2011 at 6:43 pm
According to Bucs official Twitter, it’s a strained rotator cuff. Not serious. Raheem Morris even said that if there was a game on Sunday, GMC could possibly play. Sounds like he’ll be back in a few days.
August 5th, 2011 at 6:45 pm
I was there. He went into one buc place, returned to the field 10-15 mins. Later and was participating (going hard) in the two minute drill. Calm down folks!
Oh and brian price does NOT look good. I saw him get beat taken down in a 2 on 1 drill and took a while to get up, when he did (writhing in pain with hand on HIP) he pounded his helmet on the ground and sat out the rest of the drill. I cant see at all that he will be in good enough shape to start the season. The only good sign I saw was that he was running with the 2s later. Doesnt look good to me though!
August 5th, 2011 at 6:46 pm
Hopefully just a stinger, but injuries abound around the NFL as some players aren’t day to day, but they are out for some time. We’ve been cautious with our previously injured players returning and have really seen limited injuries. This has been a concern since the beginning of the lockout. With no OTAs and team conditioning, it’s possible these guys will be more injury prone this season. Not that they didn’t work out, but that they didn’t get the best football conditioning to help prevent injuries. The shoulder is a fluke injury that couldn’t have been prevented, but pulled hamstrings and the like would be more limited had they been practicing all along.
August 5th, 2011 at 6:50 pm
He is day to day domminck says .
August 5th, 2011 at 6:51 pm
I agree about Price…I’ll put money that he starts the season on the PUP list. Looks like they wanted to give him every chance to show where he stood during camp & preseason but it doesn’t look good at the moment.
Good thing about the PUP list is he has to stay out the first 6 weeks of the season and then the team has a 3-week window after that to evaluate him in practice without him counting against the 53-man roster limit. I think this is what happens in Price’s case.
August 5th, 2011 at 6:53 pm
Joe, I have not called him injury prone. I hope it is not serious for him. But dont worry, there will be no dropoff if he misses time. Bennett might be better now, Okam is close. I would never dance for joy over someone being injured.
August 5th, 2011 at 6:56 pm
Of course not, but you’d dance when the settlement check arrived.
August 5th, 2011 at 6:58 pm
Hope he is ok, big year for Gerald.
Between the questionable knee and arm of our two draftees, and Price and Gerald’s injury issues, i wonder how durable the d-line will be.
August 5th, 2011 at 7:01 pm
That is true Flboy.
August 5th, 2011 at 7:09 pm
“But dont worry, there will be no dropoff if he misses time. Bennett might be better now, Okam is close.”
—–
Again, more baseless opinions from Thomas “the true idiot” 2.2. Exactly how many practices have you been to this year? How would you know anything about anything regarding this team? When did you become a talent evaluator, especially when you haven’t seen these guys in months? Sometimes it’s better to just shut up – maybe when you grow up you will figure that out.
August 5th, 2011 at 7:51 pm
I was referring to the last 4 games without him last year. The defensive front was better. The best example is the skins game, first half he played and the D gave up a nfl record rushing yards for 1 half to ryan torrain. Who? Second 1/2 he is out and the defense plays much better.
I evaluated the last 4 games, the run defense was better. Nonetheless, I hope that he is fine.
August 5th, 2011 at 8:04 pm
Bullspit Thomas, that’s not what you were referring to! You said there will be no dropoff, not there was no dropoff last year. Why can’t you ever admit you are wrong? Is that like a childhood problem or something? And thanks for not answering any of the questions I asked – shocker! I guess it’s a lot easier to make sh%t up versus actually answer a relevant question(s).
Second, forgive me for not putting too much stock in what you have evaluated in the last 4 games. Your evaluation means d*&k to me and everyone else in this world. Do you even think about how stupid some of the things you write are?
August 5th, 2011 at 8:14 pm
How did the run d and pass rushing stats fair with gmc and without?
August 5th, 2011 at 8:28 pm
GMC was missed. Roy Miller had a good day in the middle and Woods who had been a ghost showed up today as well.
August 5th, 2011 at 8:28 pm
Do you even read other people’s statements? Surely as a lawyer (laughing out lout) you are smarter than that.
August 5th, 2011 at 8:31 pm
Our Hawaiian Brother is on a roll.
Thanks for borrowing the restroom Thomas and stinking up the whole house.
August 5th, 2011 at 8:31 pm
Its time for Joe to start handing out warnings to hawaii buc and biggiemac.
Too much aggression towards posters on JBF should not be tolerated.
August 5th, 2011 at 8:32 pm
Thanks Old School,
I get to attend my first practice tomorrow night.
August 5th, 2011 at 8:36 pm
Warnings for being enthusiastic Fans that love the team. LOL
If you’re waiting for me to become a hater, Thomas/Eric/Personality#3, hold your breath.
You don’t know the meaning of aggression. If you would like to see some, I’ll be happy to oblige your ignorant little self.
Hahaha, give you props TB. Post of the Day.
August 5th, 2011 at 8:39 pm
Joe,
Thomas’ Personality#3 is being mean to me.
Waaaaaaaaaaa Waaaaaaaaaaa.
I’m going to take my ball and leave.
Bullies.
August 5th, 2011 at 8:44 pm
What a joke, you think that is aggression? Love how you also ignore how he has yet to answer any real questions. I guess that is a commonality with haters.
August 5th, 2011 at 9:01 pm
Out of the 2 public practices so far, hawaiian, i have attended the same number as you – 0 -. I have attended practices for many years, you learn very little. I remember when we thought Scoty Milanovich and Mark Vlasic were Elway and Marino after watching UT practices. Real bulletts expose players. Yes Bigmac – your personal threats should not be allowed.
August 5th, 2011 at 9:04 pm
as someon who thinks thomas’s outlook is tainted, i must agree with the unecesarity of the aggression
August 5th, 2011 at 9:04 pm
also… apparently as someone who cant spell
August 5th, 2011 at 9:05 pm
Hawaiian: most of your questions seem rhetorical; otherwise they are rarely insightful. I respond to cogent and salient insightful questions,
Not: “do you realize how stupid you are?” type stuff that you and bigmac stoop to.
August 5th, 2011 at 9:12 pm
2.2’s blind bias and never ending glass-half-empty stance against the Glazers, Raheem and McCoy is definitely irritating but let’s tone down the verbal abuse just a little. I understand the frustration with haters like him but there’s no need to overly crude and antagonistic. That approach can make everyone feel uncomfortable and it’s really not necessary.
August 5th, 2011 at 9:14 pm
As a wise man once told me try decaf
August 5th, 2011 at 9:31 pm
Gunfighters get shot too.
August 5th, 2011 at 9:35 pm
I think Thomas just likes to F### with us. He is probably a big Raheem fan with posters. LOL
August 5th, 2011 at 10:01 pm
I think everyone is overlooking that Freeman missed almost all of preseason last year and look how is last 8 games went.
Tampa Bay Buccaneer fans are going to have see this is a new day Tampa Bay and that day begins and ends with #5. If this defense doesn’t improve at all from last year (which I truly think it will). We will have a chance at the division title. I’m not sure 20% of Buc fans realize what a great QB we have.
August 5th, 2011 at 10:14 pm
I really don”t need a lecture from you guys, but thanks for you input. I have only tangled with one other poster on this site and that was JimBuc, but we made amends after he stopped criticizing every comment from every poster regardless of the content. I have a history here of being mostly modest, usually reasonable, and frequently wrong about details. But here’s the deal, whether you like it or not. If Thomas leaves, you won’t see the A hole side of me. If Thomas quits spewing hate and bogus arguments about OUR team, you won’t see the A hole side of me. If he even half way gets with the program and acts like a Buc Fan, you won’t see the A hole side of me. But rest assured, I will not back down. It just isn’t in my DNA. Some of you should try it, it is a recipe for success. So as long as he acts like a child, I will treat him like a child. If you don’t like my posts you don’t have to read them. I,m not wrong about this or about this team. So if you are going to continue to come to these threads, you should probably get used to it. Those that think that I have threatened the little twerp wouldn’t know a credible threat if it smacked them in the head. I’m sorry that some of you don’t feel as passionate about this team and what they are doing as I do, but I will not sit idle while a person claiming to be a Buc fan bashes our team and coach at every turn.
Riddle me this smart guys. Let’s say that a person comes in here and openly claims that he is a Panthers’ Fan, then he writes the exact same comments that Thomas 2.2″ does and you mean to tell me you guys are going to tolerate it? This is exactly what is wrong with our Fanbase. I don’t think so, and since all men are created equal, all A holes should be treated the same. If that includes me then so be it.
August 5th, 2011 at 10:20 pm
Thomas , what goes around, comes around. If you want to stop, then I’ll stop. It’s that simple. But if you want to play games, let’s play. The Ball is your court. Put up or shut up, but don’t pull your crap and then cry wolf. If you can’t take it, don’t dish it out, because I’m just getting started and you haven’t seen nothing yet. You guys can call me anything you want. I’ve been called worse. And for the record, Joe has told me to tone it down before and I do what he says. I respect and love them for what they do for us. If Joe has a problem he won’t hesitate to put me in my place, believe me. He’s the boss, not us, and especially not the 12 yr old lawyer in the room.
August 5th, 2011 at 10:38 pm
“I have attended practices for many years, you learn very little.”
——-
With that comment, you prove my point. As a fan, you will not learn too much from a practice, because you don’t know what the hell you are looking for. A coach or GM sees things in a completely different way. They see things we would never see. I promise you that they learn a ton from practice. This is why your constant (negative) assumptions about players really gets under my skin, because you haven’t got a clue what you are talking about. The same can be said for me, that is why you will never hear me talking about a player’s ability as if I am a talent evaluator. Me saying I think player so and so is going to get better is nothing more than wishful thinking. I know that when I say it. But I am not going to sit here and say that a player on my team sucks; or worse, has no chance of living up to expectations. Do you know why? Because I don’t know. You, however, pretend that you have some skill at evaluating players, which is a complete joke. This is the root of why I call you stupid; because you go around spitting constant hate towards a huge majority of our team and organization, when you have zero credentials to do such. It just shows how biased you are against this team, and how much hate you have towards them. I think it’s pretty sad.
August 5th, 2011 at 11:15 pm
Umm.. Lets all just be fans and hope our injured #3 pick is ok and ready to go soon. Things like this shouldn’t turn into arguments.
August 5th, 2011 at 11:30 pm
Not to worried. I’m sure it isn’t serious. Even if it is … We have some options. Can plug Price in his natural position next to Roy Miller. Plug in Al Woods. Place both Al woods and B. Price. Or go heavy package and put Roy Miller and Okam next to each other. And doesn’t Bennet play DT sometimes as well? Either way we have plenty of good depth at that position.
August 5th, 2011 at 11:36 pm
Thomas i must agree with others. Don’t be so hard on GMC just yet his rookie year, was the typical rookie year of a D lineman. There are exceptions out there tho. Like Suh, who prolly is also the reason u hate on GMC so much as a player. You can not hate him for the fact Suh got drafted first and we couldn’t get him. Instead have a little faith. It’s obvious GMC takes his role serious and worked really hard on getting his body into a better shape for power and speed. He is doing “what looks like” everything he can to be the best DT possible. remember can’t truly evaluate a player until after about 3 or so years. To get what u truly have. Root for him, or at least give him the benefit of the doubt. I think he earned it from his off-season work ethic.
August 6th, 2011 at 12:46 am
Agree BigMacAttack, but I was told to drink decaf !
August 6th, 2011 at 1:23 am
Decaf, what a joke that is. I drink mud, but only in the morning. I don’t even use a coffee filter anymore, and just strain it with my teeth.
August 6th, 2011 at 1:38 am
I’ve heard it’s a strained rotator cuff. Sapp tweeted something about how he tore his rotator cuff twice, how do you strain it? Should be fine, but will probably be limited for a couple weeks.
August 6th, 2011 at 2:26 am
first of all…thomas you didnt attend any practice, it would conflict your shift at burger king….stop posting from your moms laptop and try to better yourself!!! you are a prime example of the internet chump that,# 1 never attends games,# 2 constanly complains about what you know nothing about and # 3 we dont care what you have to say!!! with this said, do not over cook our fries!!!
August 6th, 2011 at 8:54 am
Thomas never answers question, we should all just go back to ignoring him.
August 6th, 2011 at 9:16 am
How can I be a hater when I constantly heap praise on free, williams, k2, dj, penn, ronde, cody, dom etc? Bc those guys deserve it and arent you chosen idols.
I criticize rah, gmc and the glazers with support bc I believe that they deserve it. Period.
August 6th, 2011 at 2:32 pm
Please show me where you “constantly heap praise” on anyone. Are you seriously trying to convince us of that, as if we wouldn’t remember if you heaped praise on someone? You are just digging yourself deeper and deeper.
