“Polished” Briscoe Is Gem Of The Day

Shaun King wasn’t impressed watching Dezmon Briscoe at practice recently, but Raheem Morris has raved about the young receiver and Mark Dominik has expressed his excitement.

Briscoe caught six balls in the Bucs’ final two games last year, including a sick touchdown grab against New Orleans, but he’s probably best known for being at the center of a Marvin Lewis meltdown.
Throw receivers coach Eric Yarber into the mix of those raving about Briscoe, so documented Rick Brown of the Lakeland Ledger, aka Backwards Hat,
“For such a young guy, he has such great route discipline,” said Tampa Bay receivers coach Eric Yarber. “In order to be a great receiver in my eyes, you have to have great patience in your routes and that’s what Briscoe has. He has patience, he knows how to set up defenders and he was taught very well in college. He caught over 200 balls in college. He’s pretty polished.”

Not in the story is the fact that 21-year-old Briscoe was a teammate of Aqib Talib at the University of Kansas in 2007, when Briscoe won all kinds of freshman honors. Going against a cover guy like Talib in practice surely couldn’t have hurt his development.
Joe’s glad the Bucs found a talent, but Joe needs to see a lot more from the guy to be convinced. He’s not the next Mike Williams.

This is a good example of why we should wait sometimes before we pass judgment. The pundits don’t always have it right. Coming into this preseason, there were reports of Briscoe being immature; not having a good work ethic – reasons for him falling so far in the 2010 draft. These traits were evidenced by him not showing up for any of Freemans offseason workouts, including the IMG workouts. Pretty glowing words from Morris for a player some in the media has suggested may not live up to his potential.

The Bucs signed Crompton, and I am 110% sure he is not the next Josh freeman! I am happy to see Crowder coming back though.

I like Briscoe, and Briscoe is a famous Tampa family name! Anyone remember Jack and Jerry Briscoe, the Wrestling Family from Tampa ? They now own an autobody shop in West Tampa.

ording to TBO m. Williams is getting five yards of seperation on all the DBs…They also said Talib cannot cover him. Maybe Williams is going to take to another level this year with freeman.

@McBuc – Yes, that was back in the 80’s, but I think they spelled their name Brisco.
I am impressed with Dezmon Briscoe, especially after the Saints game. Stroughter may have a hard time making the team this year.

I see us using a lot of three receiver sets this year. And was the Seattle game just a preview of what this Bucs offense will look like in the near future?

Williams is killing everyone.
As for Briscoe, I was with Shaun that day and Briscoe had his weakest outing of camp. He still caught everything thrown at him, but he looked sluggish which Shaun noted while out at 1 Buc.

I think we have good depth a receiver and than we have K2, Mr. Third Down. I like all of them and I’m glad they kept “Run Michael Run”.
It’s going to be a great year. I’m totally stoked.

Things like the Briscoe signing and the Blount signing are why Dominik is indeed a “rock star”. Briscoe was considered a Rd.2 pick early in the draft process. He was rated right up there with guys like Arrelious Benn by scouts. For whatever reason he dropped significantly during the whole overanalysis phase of the draft process. At the end of the day we got a reciever with 2nd round talent for practice squad money and a marquis feature back for undrafted free agent money. Not too money GM’s in the league pulling multiple rabbits out of there hat in the same year like that.
