Bucs Want Raheem To “Throttle It Back?”
June 29th, 2011Joe considers Raheem Morris an absolute gem of a speaker. He’s passionate, and compared to his head coach peers, never-boring Raheem lets it all hang out at times and then some.
The guy’s priceless. He makes fans laugh and gets them fired up all at the same time, all while simply being real.
Plus he often gives a lot of good Xs and Os answers for those paying attention. No wonder the guy’s a rockstar around town.
Today, NFC South blogger Pat Yasinskas even awarded Raheem an accolade for best postgame interview in a post on BSPN.com.
Best postgame interview: Raheem Morris. The Bucs’ head coach is animated and doesn’t hold much back. There are some in the organization who wish Morris would throttle it back a bit. But, from a media standpoint, there’s not another NFC South coach who is nearly as good a quote as Morris. There aren’t too many coaches around the rest of the NFL who are in his league.
Whoa!
Joe was taken back reading Yasinskas’ unsourced claim that some important people at One Buc Palace want Raheem to “throttle it back” and fire off more coachspeak. Joe doesn’t want to believe it.
Don’t do it, Raheem!
Keep being your best self. It’s working.

idk..if he would just lie…coach wont do it anyway its who he is..and what are they going to do if he doesn’t fire him..yea right he would have a job so fast..this is the man that got freeman here the man that turn this team around in one year

‘take off your underwear ….and put your face on people’
maybe that’s what the unnamed source is referring to haha
June 29th, 2011 at 6:14 pm
It is Jonathan Grella … I remember when they told him to stop using the word violence … Also Raheem has singled him out that Grella would angry at him for saying what he was about to say .. I dont think Raheem cares too much though and says what he wants
June 29th, 2011 at 6:15 pm
Maybe Raheem made the thong comment to GMC at the combine …
A Raheem Morris quote page would be great

I can understand how the media would want him to speak without restraints but if I were his employer I wouldn’t let him near a microphone. Yes he is entertaining but for both positive and negative reasons.
Throttle back is one heck of an understatement, his mouth goes 200mph while his mind is driving in a school zone- I mean that with all due respect.
The recent duemig interview is an example. He needs to be controlled, if not, he will divulge harmful and unnecessary information. I know that his players like his buddy-buddy relationship and way of communicating – so I guess that is a good thing. However, once he matures and calms down he will probably express himself more clearly and effectively.
June 29th, 2011 at 6:50 pm
I think he speaks clearly and effectively already Tom, how do you not understand.. “We’re the best in the NFC, yeah I said it.. We’re the best team in the NFC” Raheem “The Dream” Morris
June 29th, 2011 at 6:51 pm
Bucfan: he inherited a team that went 9-7, participated in the decisions to change the roster, said publicly that he made the 2009 team a playoff team – and proceeded to go 3-13.
Yes, that was followed by a 7 win improvement, but since being handed the team, he has finished 3rd and 4th in the division and never made the playoffs.
If 3rd place in the div. And missing the playoffs is a turnaround, then you may want to consider raising your expectations. It is hard to believe that anyone would think that your team has been turned around if it never makes the playoffs.
Remember, the experts are picking this team 3rd in the division again.
June 29th, 2011 at 6:52 pm
Freeman- after saying that he missed the playoffs. Typically, the best team in the conference at least participates in the post season.
June 29th, 2011 at 7:18 pm
@Thomas
-Way to just say “we came in 3rd” and not say we had 10 wins. 10 wins and 3rd place in the division is a freak-occurrence and does not happen often. 10 wins, playoffs or not, is usually pretty impressive, especially for the youngest team in the NFL.
-Raheem was 2nd in voting for coach of the year. You have absolutely nothing of substance to say about why he can’t coach.
-We had a fantastic 7 game improvement, and you blowing that fact off like its nothing makes you look silly.

Hey Dan,
I’m pretty sure Raheem’s exact words were something like: “Training camp is a little bit different. To me, that’s when you establish the men. You take off your underwear, put on your big boy pads and put your face on people. And that’s what training camp is all about!”
That sounds a lot less homosexual than your version does. Haha
It still sounds funny of course, but it’s an awesome quote and he is right. When you tackle, you do want to put your face on people rather than your helmet. Most traumatic neck injuries happen with the neck being bent forward towards the chest rather than being hit from the chin and being bent backwards. Thats just a fact.
And Tom I understand everything he says and clearly. “Its mentality, before reality” and we were the best team in the nfc at that point. We were tied for the least losses at that point, so technically we were.
I think we can play with anybody, personally, but you have to believe that before you can really achieve that.

Raheem, Dom and the awesome draft picks they have chosen have put this team back on the map for the long-term after just 2 seasons! Don’t change a thing Raheem! GO BUCS!!!

Joe here,
Remember, fellas. The censorship on using the term “violent” was the previous PR administration back in 2009. Joe brought that to light and it went national. Don’t think Raheem ever listened to that anyway. Mike Tomlin was saying “violent” all the time. It never made sense why someone was trying to cork Raheem. It’s football.
June 29th, 2011 at 8:14 pm
I love Raheem, just like Freeman. As time goes on I like like them both more and more. Raheem will have a ring very soon. His players love him and will do anything for him. To Hell and back, always signs of a great leader. I also dig the Chest bumps and flying hip bumps. These are things that a “Puller” does (as in Chesty Puller, look it up), not a “Pusher”. Too many Coaches are “Pushers” like Mike Shanahan, marching around barking orders, having lost the ability to teach and motivate, qualities Morris has in spades. As Jon Gruden would say, “I love this guy”.
June 29th, 2011 at 8:16 pm
I haven’t met Coach Morris yet, but when I do, I want to give him a big bear hug and a big thank you. Did I say, “I love this guy”……. and Suck it Thomas, you clueless little dweeb.
June 29th, 2011 at 8:33 pm
I’m a big fan of Raheem Morris, but admit I’d like him to sound more like a coach and less like a fan.
June 29th, 2011 at 9:40 pm
I love hearing, “once he matures” from a grown man who has time to post 20 times a day on fans blog about how he is a realist and everyone else is fanatical sheep. Hey Tom, come down from your ivory tower, take the white wig off, your game is growing very old, boring and extremely hypocritical.

Jvato is right – It was Jonathan Grella. However, I believe he was hired partially to help Raheem tone it down in the first place, so I’m pretty sure someone else may have been pulling the strings on that one.
June 30th, 2011 at 12:12 am
If Grella was trying to shutup Raheem, he’s doing a lousy job. There’s no way anyone’s telling Raheem to tone it down. I have to say Raheem is a way better speaker than he was in 2009. They’ve done a great job with him, and I’m sure he’s matured as well. That “Best in teh NFC” rap was obviously orchestrated and brilliant.
June 30th, 2011 at 7:25 am
Olsen’s play calling and Freeman’s Offense is what got the Bucs wins last year. Not Raheem the Dream. Morris defense was bad last year. And it will be bad this year if there is a season. Sure Morris is great for sound bites. He comes out with some of the most outlandish statements in the NFL. Yes, he relates well with the young players. Yes, he is a great cheerleader. But he is not a legitimate head coach.
June 30th, 2011 at 8:52 am
I’m really starting to think that negative posters like Thomas and Tampa2 are really just Joe saying those things to keep people commenting on his site. Cuz noone can call themselves a fan and be so naive & negative at the same time. Im not mad at this Joe its actually a very smart move. It keeps me reading. GO BUCS!!!

TRUST Joe, he has better things to do — far better things! — in his busy day than to waste time playing the role of an agitator under fake names.
June 30th, 2011 at 10:26 am
@ BigMacAttack – give him some love for me too! Not sure how anyone that considers themselves a Bucs fan can have much if anything negative to say about Raheem. Last season was one of the most entertaining seasons of Bucs football EVER! (Been a fan since I was old enough to know what football was-1978) And we didn’t even make the playoffs. This team took on it’s coaches personality and they are kicking *ss. Keep it up Raheem. Maybe one day you’ll get the respect you deserve from Thomas 2.blow. Then again, probably not. He’ll just twist numbers and facts around to prove his point. Being truthful is not important to him or Tampa2. Being “right” is. Go Bucs!
June 30th, 2011 at 11:20 am
@Tampa 2
Injuries and suspensions didn’t help, and i still think we played good defense down the stretch with a dline the likes of: Crowder, Bennett, Miller and Okam for the last two games against playoff teams and played pretty darn well. Our secondary in those last two games were Jones, Lynch/Asante, Biggers, Barber, and a rookie named Lewis. I think he did one heck of a job considering and of course there is room for improvement.
But being a legitimate head coach has nothing to do with having the defensive playcalling duties as well anyways. If he had monte back there running the defense last year and was solely the head coach, I think anyone would have to say he was more than a legitimate head coach and did more than a good job. Boy, you crazy!
June 30th, 2011 at 8:57 pm
PLEASE…McKay was a million times worse than Morris on the things he said.
Morris is fine. Whoever in the organization feels that way is an idiot.
