Gerald McCoy On Verge Of Stardom

Clearly spending a No. 3 overall pick on Gerald McCoy, the Bucs have high hopes for the defensive tackle, even though his rookie season was not something to write home about.
Only the unbalanced expect a rookie defensive tackle to shine. Yes, manbeast Ndamukong Suh is a rare player, a once in a generation type of player. Remember, even Warren Sapp was largely invisible his rookie year.
When GMC began tuning out former defensive line coach Todd Wash midway through the season, his numbers shockingly began to rise until he blew out a biceps, ending his season.
Matt Williamson of Scouts Inc. is of the mind that GMC will soon become a disruptive force in the NFL.
The transition to the NFL is difficult for many rookie defensive tackles, in large part because they can no longer whip most players across from them with raw natural ability the way they did in college. McCoy has physical gifts but took some time to learn patience and to read and feel blocking schemes before his injury, and he is still a work in progress from that standpoint, but he did record four sacks in the last three games he played in 2010.
Overall, though, he is one of the quickest, most explosive and most athletic defensive tackles in the league. McCoy has a long linear build that should gradually fill out over the next few years, better enabling him to deal with the double teams and extra attention that he is sure to attract, and taking on multiple blockers will free up his teammates to get to the ball. McCoy has the ability to disrupt on his own and make the players around him better, which is exactly what you want from a 3-technique in a 4-3 defense.
Toward the end of the 2011 season — if there is a season — will be telling for GMC, Joe believes. He has a new defensive line coach, Keith Millard, hand-picked by Sapp himself.
If Millard is that good, and GMC has adapted to handling and recognizing NFL blocking schemes, there should be a marked turnaround.

Overall not round pick. I can’t wait to see Brian Price next year. If he plays half as good as he was during training camp last year. Remember how dominate he was at camp. He and Mike Williams were the two big stories.

People close to GMC say that his body looks completely different from last year. He has been working very hard on building his strengh with elite trainer Todd Durkin. Michael Bennett, who’s been working with him in San Diego, says his drive is unmatched and makes others around him work harder. Just can’t wait to see him on the field this year!

I am very excited to see Game one, since the Lions didnt really address their D-line issues. Stafford have a third injured season? also great showdown of the ‘Silver Crush’ versus the pewter power. Two great D-line squads. Btw we gotta come up with a more manly moniker than Detriot has labeled themselves, you saw mine, but we should come up with something better for our monstrous d-linemen

Hey guys! No Thomas so far on this thread so im venturing a post. BTW!!! Stop calling him out and encouraging him to post. Just ignore him. He is a true troll and doesn’t believe half the crap he says. He is just mentally unbalanced and gets a kick out of the unwarranted attention he gets running his mouth on the internet since he is such a loser in real life. Stop responding to him and for gods sake stop mentioning him in posts he hasnt even yet commented on.
On to my two cents-
Dan- im assuming you meant o-line issues and im in full agreement. It boggles my mind that the press is giving the Lions A+ draft grades just like the Bucs when they have AGAIN failed to address their most glaring issues which is an o-line that can’t keep their franchise QB on upright and on the field(yes I believe Stafford is a future superstar if he can stay healthy- he has shown serious flashes of brilliance in such short playing time). The Lions are still one of the stupidest franchises out there. HOW are u gonna draft Nick Fairley when you have an immobile but super talented QB like Stafford that NEEDS a franchise LT + other lineman SO BAD!!! There is a saying that defense wins championships but the last decade has proven that what wins championships is franchise Qb’s + good defenses backing them up. Stafford WILL BE a franchise QB but only with a good o-line to protect him. To risk their investment in Stafford to continue to focus in d-line is like a parent who should be arrested for child neglect. I too am excited for revenge in the season opener vs. Detroit but I don’t think it will come down to d-line vs. d-line. I think it will come down to the fact that the Bucs will keep J-freeze upright enough to win the game and the Lions will not do the same for poor Stafford. The Lions will have a better chance of winning that game if they start scrambler Drew Stanton instead. Last year is proof. The revamped Bucs d-line should be able to murder Stafford, even game one, compared to their sh#t the bed performance vs. Stanton last year, because Stafford lacks the ability to buy time which is the less talented Stanton’s biggest strong point. Sorry Detroit, in the game of teams who are building young dominant defensive lines our Bucs will be the winners since we have actually made sure we have a halfway talented left tackle to protect our franchise QB. Here’s to dumbass Detroit spending next years top 10 draft pick on another defensive player after Stafford suffers another major injury!!!

Oh yeah and in response to MObucs- I too have read the articles your reading pertaining to McCoy and his seemingly fanatical drive to not only improve his own game but become the Sapp like leader of this defense by organizing the d-line workouts during the lockout and push Clayborn. Without rehashing everything the guy has said it pretty much seems like he is intent on not only becoming a dominant 3-technique this year but pulling out all the stops and becoming the vocal leader of this defense and pushing the new rooks to the limit. CLEARLY the guy is DRIVEN to be great and will hopefully eclipse the low expectations of ONE person you all seem obsesses with rebutting. GITARLVR OUT!!!!

Its so funny Thomas; When I stop commenting there is nothing but multiple posters declaring how they will miss my input yet if you stopped commenting, or better yet, were banned it would be the internet equivalent of a street riot after a city has won a major championship in terms of virtually every poster on here rejoicing in your absence. Just keep on doing your thing thing and pretending to be a lawyer, doctor, the dalai lama, a rocket scientist or whatever your juvenile ass is pretending to be today. Gonna really enjoy this season, especially because the pessimists on this and other boards are going to be eating one large helping of humble pie just like they enjoyed last year. Damn, again Thomas showing an amazing ability to absorb a beating! And the McCoy issue is one of his champion causes. Gitarlvr. I for one read your post. I hope you keep posting, as you are one of the more passionate posters here, and take everything to heart. But the world is a big place. So is JoeBucFan. There is room for all of our opinions. Try looking at Thomas in a different light. I haven’t seen anyone here proven wrong as often as Thomas. All the others gave given up and lady. Even his former Ally, Eric, has pretty much went into hiding. I don’t agree with many of Thomas’s opinions. But ya gotta admit, he’s brave. He sits down and writes his opinions- knowing quite a few really smart guys are waiting to prove him the fool. Yet he steps up and fights his fight against tough odds- every. Single. Day.
That ain’t easy!
I’d hate to see you stop posting. I’d hate to lose Thomas. He sure ignites the faithful! And something I’m still learning- as much as I enjoy reading the post of the guys I admire( Hawiian, BigMac,Lakeland Bob,Oar,etc) especially when they agree with me, I would miss Thomas, Jarrett and some others. They are the ones who take quick opurtunity to point out when I am full of s%^t. Which does happen occasionally!
And, sadly Thomas 2.2″ inches. I think this article is absolutely correct about McCoy. The Guy is driven this offseason, and will be a dominant lineman in this league. – just like I said he would be!

Just want to point out that I would rather read Gitarlvr’s posts any day over the redundant hate from Thomass. However, gitarlvr, it doesn’t matter if we called him out or not, there was absolutely no way Thomas wasn’t going to post on a GMC article. Most people would have enough sense to avoid being so predictable when called out, but Thomass is not like most people. He’s special.

I totally agree with all that $h!t about the Lions. I was baffled again this year when Schwartz didn’t take a franchise LT. What a bonehead move, and IMO, again 2’nd year in a row. Sure Suh had a great season, but losing your franchise QB a second year to injury, you think would get the light to come on. Mike Williams and Blount, both had better seasons than Bradford or Suh, yet neither got rookie awards or recognition from the voters, just us.
There is talk that Bowers will have a chip on his shoulder, and I believe that, but I think GMC has a chip too(being in Suh’s shadow), as well as Price because of injury and even Clayborn has a chip because of dropped sack numbers and his Erb’s palsy. These will collectively become Blue Chips and the anticipation of seeing them together is making me crazy (Carly). I think we have to give them time as a group to develop (which the little twerp won’t) but it could happen sooner than later. The long and the short of it (Weinerism) is this could be one of the great d lines to ever play the game. We will see if they are a “No Name Defense”, “The Fearsome Foursome”, “The Steel Curtain”, “The Purple People Eaters” or my favorite “2002 Bucs’ Best Ever”. That is a best case scenario, and at a worst case they will be very stout and better than last year, even the last 5 or 6 years, clearly on the right track.
An argument here has to have some merit and reason, in short it has to make sense. Can it be backed up, and not just with individual stats but with big plays, key plays and/or intangibles. The most important factor, which the Bucs heavily rely on, is that Film doesn’t lie. If you haven’t watched the new Bucs, as many of the MSM and 1 or 2 here, and only read the reports or stats, you get a very small window that doesn’t reveal the big picture.
As many are pointing out now, with this 3’rd draft of Rah/Dom, this team is stacked from head to toe with talent and ability. The potential is off the charts and there were only a couple bad players on the team last year. This year they will ALL be good, and the new D line should make our Secondary and backers better.
We all know what bad teams this city has had, and this isn’t one of those times. The Bucs, Lightning, and Rays are all badass teams. This is definitely a time to lay it out there in a positive push and not hedge your bets. For someone to see a glass less than half full or only find the negative when it is less than 1% means that they are along the line of the most miserable POS on the planet, an IQ of less than 10, and have absolutely zero understanding of winning and the thrill it brings. The person is almost locked in their own little solitary confinement, living in darkness, ignorance, basking in feces and eating gruel. And the worst part is that the door is open and there is light outside, but yet they choose to stay in the mentally crippled molecule of emptiness.

Even though I have not been on here in awhile, it seems that nothing much has changed. The kool-aid drinkers seem to abound, while the posters that keep it real are bashed. Hawaiian, Bigmac, Gitar, and Tugboat Timmie still dominate the thread with their bull&#(t. Yes, McBuc, I couldn’t disagree more with this article.
Money talks & Bull&@*t walks is appropriate here. SUH, (whom we could have had), dominated last year like we all figured he would, while McCoy (whom Dominik declared the best player in the draft), gave us more excuses than he did tackles as he sank into obscurity. McCoy will “never” be the player that Joe and some of the aforementioned seem to think he will be. Price will prove to be the best pick between the two. And while the Bucs did pick up some talented players in this years draft, we still have the amateur HC as defensive coordinator, so I wouldn’t be having any preseason celebration of the Superbowl just yet.
Our offense surprised a lot of teams (and all of us) last year. But those coaches, (unlike ours), are professionals and will be ready for the Bucs this year. So Thomas2.2, keep up your voice of reason and don’t be bothered by this pack of Hyena’s. Some of us appreciate a little realism over fantasy dreams when it comes to the Bucs.

Welcome back Tampa 2, I was acrually refering to Thomas, since you have not been here I started calling him T2. I guess you still do not underrrstand that Morris is the head coach of the Tampa bay Bucs, which is in fact a pro football teram in the NFL. This makes Morris a pro coach…Thomas can use some back up on here though, so I am happy too see you return. You two negative Nancy’s help keep the conversation going.

Uh T2, Suh was off the board when the Bucs picked at 3…. unless I’m missing something. And for the record, I was probably about the 3’rd or 4’th person to comment on this blog. I don’t try to dominate anything. I leave that to the Bucs and their play on the field pretty much speaks for itself. I somehow think you have confused stupidity for reason here, but who cares, you guys will continue to be proven wrong.
