Peter King Happy Bucs Bailed On “Hard Knocks”
May 18th, 2011A lot of Bucs fans were angry if not outraged that, after seemingly courting HBO to be featured on “Hard Knocks,” where HBO would document the team’s each and every move in training camp, the Bucs declined the offer.
For those who were upset by the move, don’t count coffee-slurping, popcorn-shoveling, fried chicken-eating, oatmeal-loving Peter King of Sports Illustrated as an ally.
The long-time NFL scribe Twittered this morning that Team Glazer made a sound decision not to be on HBO this fall.
@gclark3434: If camps happen, you agree Bucs made good decision turning down Hard Knocks?
@SI_PeterKing Yes. Young team could get too full of self.
First, Joe has to compliment King on being able to multitask so well. He Twitters like a mad man whenever he is co-hosting “The Opening Drive” as he did this morning with Ross Tucker, heard exclusively on SiriusXM NFL Radio.
But King makes a valid point. This is a very young team. Let’s get the players a year or two more under their belt, make the playoffs (how’s that for a novel concept?) and then, let the team be featured on “Hard Knocks.”
There are enough distractions with this heinous lockout fronted by NFL hatchetman Roger Goodell. No need to pile on the distractions.

Completely agree. Although Raheem and Freeman and Talib (maybe) and McCoy & the rookie DEs and Williams, Been & Blunt would be awesome to watch, not to mention K2, I would much rather have them NOT do it. They seem to be on a mission following Freeman’s lead and that show would have bcome a huge distraction, especially fo some of the young guys who need guidance.

coffee-slurping, popcorn-shoveling, fried chicken-eating, oatmeal-loving is how you earn the privilege of pwn’ing such great credibility.

Didn’t he mail in his Pre-season preview of the Bucs last year, like by not even coming to Tampa for a visit.

“……team could get too full of self.”
Well, he does know something about that!

Amar…Joe has all sorts of cred. Some people like a bit of humor with their info. When you see it coming just skip to the meat and potatoes. It is pretty simple, once you see “King” just skip down a paragraph. This is the most comprehensive Bucs site on the web. All the news in one place with a bit of character.

And sometimes, all the news in one character with a bit of a bite!

LOL @ OAR
Do we really need to watch a bunch of guys sittin around smokin weed? Too HARD?
Now that Stevens (rapist/careless weed smoker) isn’t on the team, who’s gunna play team dealer? T Jax? no no. AT? no no… My $ is on Gaitor.

@flmike
Think he came to Tampa, spent the morning at One Buc and then skipped out before the practice.

As a fan of the bucs I would have loved to see them on Hardknocks, but only because I rarely find any coverage of the team on tv here in Kentucky (which is the reason I visit this site everyday). And yes Joe, I have NFL network, but I crave more, like maybe a bucs network channel! All that aside, it would have definitely been a mistake to allow the cameras in onebucplace. It would be an absolute disaster if they had been on hardknocks and followed the year by posting a worse record then last year and missed the playoffs. It would only add to the pressure already on this young team, after such a good year last year. The last thing the team needs is for the players to get a big head and feel like they really accomplished something by going 10-6 and being on hbo. This team still has a lot of work to do, and hopefully To Big To Fail (nickname I’m trying out for the dline), Freeman, m.Williams, etc are up to the challenges that await next season!

I am glad Tampa declined to be on HBO. We don’t need a distraction like that right now.
I was also unaware Peter King liked Oatmeal.
