Brooks-Bruschi Bad Blood Is Official
May 12th, 2011Rumors of Teddy Bruschi taking a shot at Derrick Brooks on ESPN were swirling out there for more than a week, and the dean of Tampa Bay sports radio, Steve Duemig of WDAE-AM 620, fielded his share of calls about the slam. Duemig and Brooks are close friends and listeners wanted the inside story.
Joe didn’t hear the BSPN broadcast — Joe doesn’t watch BSPN — but the buzz was that Bruschi said on the air that Brooks is not a first ballot Hall of Fame selection.
On Wednesday, Brooks joined Duemig on the radio and Duemig asked him to comment on Bruschi’s slam. Brooks acknowledged he was aware of it and said “some things are better left unsaid.” However, Brooks kept talking anyway.
“My resume says it all,” Brooks said. “[Bruschi] has an opinion and I give it to him. …If he’s wrong, he’ll hear it from me. It’ll be three years of pent-up” anger. Brooks is eligible for induction in three years.
Of course, every Bucs fan knows Brooks was a five-time All-Pro, earned a defensive player of the year award, and was an anchor of arguably the best defense the NFL has seen. Plus, Brooks didn’t miss a start in his final 13 seasons and made 11 Pro Bowls.
Safe to say Bruschi doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Teddy bear-1065
Defensive mvp

Years spent on a team s that cheats therefore showing total lack of integrity:

Teddy Bear – 13
Enough said

Brooks also had twice as many INTs (Brooks 25 to Tedy 12), and solo tackles (Brooks 1301 to Tedy 680).
Tedy missed 19 games in his 13 year career, while Brooks “Twice the Man” missed NONE in his 14 year career!
Tedy started 75% of the games he played in, where Brooks started 98% of his!
Brooks went 11 Pro-bowls and Tedy only 1!
So, Tedy shut the ‘F’ up!!!!!!

Forgot about the cheating! That alone makes his opinions/words useless!
You know what they say? Cheaters never lose!

Look, I’m the biggest fan of Brooks that there is, but it is illogical to attack Bruschi based on his stats instead of his statement.
Bruschi never said HE WAS a first ballot HOFer. He just said Brooks wasn’t.
And no, his stats don’t matter. He doesn’t get more or less of an opinion based on his stats. If that was the case, then all of our opinions should count for 0.
Yes, he’s wrong. Brooks absolutely is a first ballot HOFer. But attack him based on Brooks’ stats, what Brooks has done for the WLB position, not based on the fact that he was inferior.

Matt What the hell are you saying??
Teddy Bear is representing himself as an expert on the subject. How did he get the gig you wonder… Because he played. lets see did he play along side of other pro bowl linebackers… No!
We can attack his statement from any vantage poit we deem fit. He publicly made a statement, We publicly can tear it apart as we see it.
Did you even see the show… He does not even qualify his answer with
solid anything.
Remember in New England: If your not cheating, Your not trying!

I’m saying HIS stats don’t matter, only Brooks’ stats. It doesn’t matter if Bruschi is HOF material (he’s not). That’s not the point we’re arguing.
He played LB in the league for a decade, so OF COURSE he is an expert on the subject. But he doesn’t have to be comparable to Brooks to be an expert.

I think teddy bears comment makes even more of a case for him to be talked about in the first ballet when he is elligable.. and if he is not a lock for the spot i cant imagine who would be???
May 12th, 2011 at 9:59 am
alot of HOF’ers with less stats than Double Nickle!
May 12th, 2011 at 10:06 am
Matt
I’m just pointing out my opinion, backed up with stats comparing the two! If you are upset that Brooks stats were more productive, than a guy who only played one less year, then you can take Teddy’s stats out of my comment and still get my same opinion…Hey Teddy, Shut the ‘F’ up!

Exactly!

Brooks should ask Bruschi to introduce him for his Hall of Fame speech in three years. However, Brooks is above that type of payback. Father Dungy introducing one of the best LBs in NFL history in three years will be epic!

Fun arguments by all but the bottom line to anyone with any football accumen is that DB is a true first ballot guy. Period
Tedy was decent for great teams. So were alot of others. Yawn.
Brooks is class personified as well and will always be and shopwed it again by taking the high road.
Now, owners stop the damn lockout so we can read about on field relevant 2011 issues and not gossip!!!!

Tedy Bruschi can eat a ****
May 12th, 2011 at 10:42 am
Brusci is an average linebacker who was neither the leader nor the athelete Brooks was. Teddy should just worry about his teams legacy after all of that cheating.
May 12th, 2011 at 11:00 am
Brooks is way too classy to even respond to bruschi, “some things are better left unsaid”. Brook’s resume speaks volumes as to the player he was on and off the field. And Tedi Bruschi making a comment like that, just makes the public lose respect for him as an analyst (not just bucs fans).

MrTampa
So true about Mr. Brooks, “the Man”! I’m not that classy! So, that’s why I say…Tedy, Shut the ‘F’ up!
May 12th, 2011 at 11:27 am
Brushi got an opinion that most disagree with. That is all. He will be wrong and he will eat his words. Some people have to go through that stuff before they learn to control their tongue.
May 12th, 2011 at 11:48 am
He was ranked as one of the NFL’s 100 greatest players of all time and he is not a 1st round ballot HOF. C’mon Son!! His accomplishments on and off the field make him an ideal candidate for a first ballot HOF. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it seems Bruschi’s opinion is motivated by something other than facts. Usually when people ignore the facts in order to cast a negative light on someone, it is motivated by hate or jealousy. In my opinion Bruschi=Hater!

Cause when I think sports analysis, I think Teddy Bruschi.
Oh wait, no I don’t.
May 12th, 2011 at 12:26 pm
Warren Sapp made a statement about #55 in the Hall ” Better believe it, Without a doubt. “
May 12th, 2011 at 12:44 pm
No one will even be talking about Bruschi in three years. 55 will always be talked about with the great LBs.
May 12th, 2011 at 3:13 pm
Brooks is unquestionably a Hall of Famer. One of the ten greatest LB’s of all time – one of the top 5 OLB’s all-time. Who cares about this first ballott stuff? The writers have weird rules on what constitutes first ballott or not.
We seemed to have less run-ins with the law (not 6 in 4 months) when we had veteran leadership on this team. Now we have no established vets or even established coaches. I wish they would bring in someone like a Brooks who could lead and control these kids.
May 12th, 2011 at 8:26 pm
brooks is the measuring stick for which all 4-3 olb’s are compared. first ballot material without a doubt.
May 12th, 2011 at 8:33 pm
I have NEVER heard anyone say something good about Titty Brewski. This is the first time I have EVER heard anyone say something bad about Derrick Brooks. Again, maybe it’s just me.
May 13th, 2011 at 6:26 am
WHAT??? Derrick Brooks is the prototype Wil LB. He defined and revolutionized the position! Absolutely a first ballot hall of Famer, and God willing, I want to be in Canton to see it!
“Teddy” can bite my #%*^ !!
