Dominik On Clayborn
April 28th, 2011Speaking at the official Bucs draft party to Justin Pawlowski of WDAE-AM 620, Bucs rock star general manager raved about the newest Buccaneer, defensive end Adrian Clayborn.
Dominik said Clayborn was No. 1 on his draft board.
“When you see Adrian Clayborn play you see what a tough, physical agressive player he is,” Dominik said. “He is. He’s a finisher. He may not be your prototypical looking defensive end. But I’m not looking for prototypical, I’m looking for production. And he gives that every day.”
“Everybody in the building thought Adrian Clayborn was the perfect fit for the Bucs.
“I’m not a measurable guy like that, I go back to the tape,” Dominik continued, referring to Clayborn having one arm shorter than the other. “And he’s just as good off the field as he is on.”
Joe’s fired up to see Rambo take the field.

Welcome Brother!

So Dom isn’t concerned that he drafted a guy that can’t play LDE due to his Erb’s Palsy?

he was drafted to play RDE. You don’t always have to move people around on the line. Dude is a beast and very physical

Can someone ask Dominik why the ‘Production King’ avoided the Senior Bowl like the plague? The guy was a 5th year senior, coming off a 4 sack season as a 22 year old and decided that he would rest on that?
If all he does is “produce” 2 and 4 sack seasons then I’m not sure I understand why there wouldn’t be a little more discussion among the war room about spending a 1st round pick on someone, you know, who produced more.

@Tom
Worry not — the fanboys will tell you that it’s just because other teams were scheming against him (as if that won’t EVER happen in the NFL).

Number 41:
They changed def coordinators and called vanilla schemes. The entire Iowa DL production went down. Not just his. Maybe that had something to do with it? Hate the pick all you want, but you, and everyone else, will never know what the real reason to the loss of production. He’s a Buc now, like it or not. Hell, everyone hated the Freeman pick. Sure am glad we have him now. Forget what happened in college, let the boy play a down and judge him later. You so called “experts” make me sick

@jared, Sooooo, you must be the expert then, maybe we should just put you in the war room…TOOL

Buc40:
Did I ever say I was an expert and say he’s going to be a 10 sack a year guy? No. I said give the pick a chance. The draft is a crapshoot. But go ahead and keep beating your drum and I’ll enjoy the rest of the draft
April 28th, 2011 at 11:12 pm
@adam from ny…..where abouts from NY??

JARED…”You so called “experts” make me sick.”…
It speaks for itself
April 28th, 2011 at 11:14 pm
Yea…That made alot of sense
April 28th, 2011 at 11:14 pm
@jared, i do agree with you though, we have to give the pick a chance
April 28th, 2011 at 11:17 pm
Jared’s idea of the NFL draft is that you should sit back and be happy about your teams pick no matter who they select.
Have they shown the clip where the guy says that he thought the Jets would take Marino instead of Ken O Brien but “I guess they know something we don’t” yet?
Nope, let’s not have any opinions about these players. Baaaaaaah Baaaah
April 28th, 2011 at 11:24 pm
Blah, Blah, Blah… the majority of you clowns lambasted the Bucs when they picked Freemen. Truth is the guy is a player and fits our scheme to a tee! Give him a chance just like you did Freeman.

Everybody loves Dominik until he makes a pick in the draft. Just a wild guess here, but I’m thinking maybe Dominik has about a hundred times the information on these guys than any of us have.
Clayborn is an extremely well rounded DE, probably the most balanced player at that position in this draft. He is the best technician out of all the guys that I’ve watched this year and has a great motor. He is exactly what Dominik looks for as a team captain, very good college production that can’t always be measured by the stat sheet, and he goes hard play in and play out. I pumped up Clayborn early in this process and was just as disapointed as the next guy that he didn’t play in the senior bowl, but in the grand scheme of things the college game tape carries alot more weight than a week of senior bowl practices.
My prediction is that his NFL production will be very similar to his college production from two years ago. Probably somwhere around a 10-12 sack, 60-70 tackle a year guy.
Doubt Dominik if you want, but I have alot if faith in his eye for talent at this point.

Clayborn! Who was predicting that for months?
This guy is very similar to Simeon Rice in his pass rush ability, especially his quick hands. He will harass QB’s, and cause them to fumble alot. Unlike Simeon, Adrian shows great run stopng ability. The aspect of his game that excited the Bucs is his aggression. He really loves to take on tackles and get to the running back! Alot of DEs only want to rush the QB.
Clayborn has a great work ethic, and is really tough. He played the entire year with major knee and ankle injuries, but still fought and contributed- and never made excuses or whined. He took what he had to the field, and played hard, and did his best to help his team win. He did this during his Senior year, when he knew playing hurt could hurt his draft status. He put the team first! That’s what Dominick though showed the guys character.
He’s Simeon Rice plus 20 pounds of muscle. He is also aggressively a run stopper. He will become a dominant right end for us
Another great pick by Dominick- can’t wait to see our new LBs and TE today! Go Bucs!
