Gerald McCoy Lashes Out At Bucs Critics
April 18th, 2011For Bucs fans who crumble their empty beer cans in their fists, angry at the Bucs got perhaps playing in London (again) this season, you can point the finger at national TV network producers.
Bucs fans just want to throw their remotes at their HDTV screens because of the perceived lack of respect shown to their 10-win season despite a myriad of obstacles including suspensions, injuries and youth.
Gerald McCoy is getting sick of this as well. The Bucs second-year defensive tackle and third overall pick in last year’s draft put fingers to keyboard on Twitter to silence those who scoff at the Bucs.
@GK_McCoy: I was told that Tampa has no big play ability today. Lol so I guess the names #Freeman, #Williams x2, #Blount, #Winslow, #Benn mean nothing!
Bingo! There were games last year — the Arizona game springs to Joe’s mind — that Joe couldn’t believe the offense he was watching. Perhaps at no other time did Joe notice as many lethal weapons on the field at the same time since the Bucs won the Super Bowl.
And it’s this very reason that GMC points out is why the Bucs are playing in London: To make sure the NFL community and blinders-wearing TV executives get to know the Bucs young studs.

I want new defensive players added to the mix.
I hate that the lockout has deprived us of free agency!
We need to seriously draft defense so I can dream of what our team can become.

Yet, I’m still hearing fans clamoring for a “home run threat” super-fast 80 yards and a cloud of dust player. We have multiple players that make each other all home run threats. Big plays by Benn when Williams is double covered. Williams gets behind safeties inching up to stop Blount. Blount hurdling a safety coming up from center field where they were watching for Benn/Williams/K2. I like the 4 headed home run threat we have, with the brains of Josh Freeman guiding it.

the people who say that aren’t true fans……

Well said Bam Bam. Having all of these guys on the field at once, and being able to incorporate them into a gameplan by making defenses account for them is what can make this offense dangerous. Every single guy mentioned by McCoy made big plays at crucial points in games last year. Of course it would never really hurt a team to have a DeSean Jackson type threat, who can go the distance on any touch…but I wouldn’t exactly call that a need of this team. Big plays don’t always have to result in a TD. Kellen Winslow’s big 40 yard catch to convert a 3rd and long in the first game against the Panthers. Mike Williams’ catch and run to set up Caddy’s TD reception against the Rams. All of Blount’s big runs and conversions to keep drives going. These were all important plays which played a role in the Bucs finishing 10-6 and showing a lot of promise.

The bucs have big play potential on offense – just not on defense.
I am glad that Gets Mauled Consistently didnt lump himself in the big play category. He was the biggest disappointment of all draft picks during the Dom era.
He needs to quit worrying about his teammates and start concerning himself with his own horrific play!

Funny how this was on NFL Network last night. No big playmakers. What was the most funny about it was all of the “big” plays they were showing while Warner and Co. was saying that. They have no problem with the Falcons, though. Even though the Falcons organization has admitted this offseason that they need explosive players on both offense and defense.

Did anyone see the Total Access segment last night with Warner, Trent Green and McCoy?
