No jail time for Talib? Then bring him back to Tampa to be his stud cornerback self for the Buccaneers, said former Bucs quarterback Shaun King, co-host of The King David Show on 1010 AM today.
King said he’s in strong disagreement with the local columnists and talking heads who are calling for Talib’s head.
“Has Talib performed in his job as cornerback of the Tampa Bay Bucccaneers?” King asked rhetorically. “If I’m Raheem Morris and Mark Dominik, it’s not my job to be the moral cops of America. I would have a problem if they cut him. … If they don’t put him in jail in Texas, then let him come back and play football.
“The Bucs have an obligation not to cut him because he makes the Bucs a better team on Sunday.”
As Joe has written, Joe would get rid of Talib, but not on moral grounds — but because the team can’t count on him for the short term or the long term.
But as Joe has written, and said during numerous radio interviews over the past two days, Talib can quickly become a sympathetic figure given “the victim” in this case and the fact that Talib set out to protect his sister.
If Talib cuts a deal for a lesser charge and probation — what Joe and others expect — the Bucs could be facing a tougher decision on Talib than it may seem to be now, especially if the lockout is still in place and the story dies out.

if no charges, keep him. hes a pro bowl talent at a serious piece of our puzzle. Only way im okay with moving on is if we get Nnamdi. otherwise we have to draft a corner and in my eyes that is a waste of a number 1 pick. gets us no further along

There will be no deal cut for probation on a gun assault charge. Maybe if Talib was still a “first time offender” but he used up that get out of jail free card on the cabbie punching. The state would have to lack confidence in their chance at trial for Talib to escape prison on this.

Nnamdi Asomugha! Yeah, the Bucs now can definitely afford him when jettisoning Talib. Aquib Talib only has value to the Buccaneers if they can be sure he is #1 available to play #2 He is not a distraction #3 He is not an embarrassment to ownership. Nnamdi is all those & much better in every area. No More Jeremy Stevens’, No more Tenard Jackson’s, No More Aquib Talib’s!!!

If he not not receive a prison sentence, then the team should deal with it internally and impose AT LEAST a 4-6 game ban on him, just for getting in trouble again.
That is if they don’t just cut him altogether.

He turned himself in and was out 2 hours later by posting a 25K bond.

lol you only have to pay like 15% of your listen bond so he actually didnt pay 25,000$. KEEP HIM. The cabbie thing was him just being a punk. This time he actually can play the victim role because of his sister. Pulling a gun pushed it, but none of us were there to know why and what was said for him to pull a gun. this is over his family I do not believe the bucs should cut him if he doesnt face jail time. and whoever said he used his get out of jail free card, read a few articles down that joe posted. After he served and completed his probation and anger management classes his record was swept clean so he will be charged as a first time offender and playing a victim role. He will get a good attorney and he will hopefully be on the bucs next season. He is arguably the best player on defence and there is no way you can just let that go. He needs to have a heart to heart like i said before with mark and raheem explain the situation. and hopefully he realizes he pushed it too far, but hopefully mark realizes his sister was most likely being sexually assaulted and he didnt go out looking and starting trouble for this one. He is too important. who could cover roddy white, andre johnson, miles austin, dez bryant, reggie wayne? face it we need aqib he could arguably be the 3rd best corner after the 2011 season.. if there is a season.

Teams get rid of players all the time because they are injury-prone. Why? They can’t answer the bell. Few if any gripe about this.
What’s the difference between an injury-prone player and a suspension-prone player? Well, first, the suspension-prone player is a massive distraction because you always find yourself trying to fill a hole because of someone’s stupidity. Injuries cannot be avoided in many cases.
The Bucs got to 10 wins without him, just how valuable can he be?
If he stays, the Bucs need to make it so clear that even a guy with a white cane can see if a cop has Talilb’s name in his mouth ever again, even for a speeding ticket, he is GONE.
As Joe has written before, the incidents with Talib only continue to grow worse. Now that he has tried to shoot a guy, and thankfully missed, what’s the next step up from that? And when? When the Bucs are making a playoff push? Charming.
The only thing you can depend on Talib for is getting into trouble.

LOL ppl are calling for Talibs release and that is just absurd. Put yourself in his shoes apparently the Boyfriend is abusing his sister.. physically or verbally who knows but i have a sister and if she was getting abused verbally or physically i would definitely take matters in to my own hands. Even his mother was shooting at the guy so you know it was something serious this guy did. Let the guy live his life hes a man who makes his own decisions. Alot of these guys who bash him in the media can’t relate to the kid because they are not even from the environment he is from or went through anything this kid has gone through. Yea he made a mistake should he have shot at the guy..no.. should he have called the cops.. yes.. was he thinking about that at the time? probably not. Let the case play out and then say what you have to say about the man.. in my opinion he is the top CB in the NFC south and if we cut him over something like this than it will be a big time football mistake. with time the kid will grow up he is only 25.

From what I’ve read eleswhere;
Talib pulled up in a car(should have called cops on his way there) got out with gun and tried pistol whipping Billings. Talib’s gun jammed when it flew out of his hand, hitting a wood fence. Billings grabbed Talibs’ jammed gun and they continued to struggle. While Talib and Billings were fighting, his mom pulls up with gun in hand and starts firing. Talib then grabbed mom’s gun and pulled off a couple of rounds himself.
Lesson of story: call the cops or take a gun safety/control class. IE learn to aim better!
BTW Billings is a registered sex offender in Texas.

If Peyton Manning or Tom Brady had done something like this, everyone would be wondering what happend, as they have never done anything like this in their past. When Talib does it, people ask if the guy drives a cab? Different scenario with a past history of violence.

We need aqib talib, joe i think you are really off base on this one. Honestly you would be hard pressed to name 5 corners in the game who are better. Biggers does not count as one either. Lets let this play out. Oh and if he is in jail then corner is a huge need and nnamdi or joseph is a must sign if we have any aspirations of making it far this year

I hope he gets thrown in jail. He deserves it and anyone who apologizes for him need to be taught a lesson obviously. So the judge and jury should convict him and his mom just to teach those in our society that shooting at people even while trying not to hit the other guy, is absolutely illegal. Talib will serve as an example for at least a few thousand retards who think this is ‘no biggie’.

I also will not buy the arguement that we dont need him, because we one some games without him. If we want to make a run next year we need aqib or a aqib like talent playing corner.

hey Weneeddefense – I AGREE with you. Talib needs to be made an example of – Any NFL safety that drops his own gun and missed two shots – well he SHOULD be cut just on principle!!!! That will teach the other Bucs to hold onto the ball.
