Veterans Need To Play To Potential
March 7th, 2011Joe is happy about the seemingly upgraded content that Buccaneers.com is pumping out of late. Multimedia czar Scott Smith has certainly ramped up the coverage.
While at the Great American Track Practice NFL Combine, Smith buttonholed NFL Network analyst Sterling Sharpe to get his thoughts on the Bucs.
Joe’s not going to spill the beans on what Sharpe said. You’ll have to click on Smith’s link and view it yourself, but Sharpe believes the key to the Bucs getting to the playoffs next year isn’t so much that the young players need to continue to develop, but that veterans need to play to their potential.
Again, Joe’s not going to write who he called out. But the first name out of Sharpe’s mouth sort of stunned Joe; not that Joe disagrees with Sharpe.
Please monitor the video and give your feedback.

way old story, bro….that’s unlike joe. must be them adult beverages.
March 7th, 2011 at 1:13 pm
Amar:
Can’t be that old. Hell, Smith just interviewed Sharpe last week. 🙁
March 7th, 2011 at 1:13 pm
talib has the potential to be on of the 3 most fesred CB in the league, he needs to grown up, and i think he will, hope the bucs work with him.
March 7th, 2011 at 1:24 pm
This story is a week and a half old.
March 7th, 2011 at 1:25 pm
hunter:
Then feel free to launch your own Bucs blog.
Or just don’t read the story.
March 7th, 2011 at 1:34 pm
Talib has the talent to anchor our secondary. Mentally and emotionally? Yeah, I’d still think about investing a bunch of that surplus money in Nnamandi- who is a high character guy, and team leader. Aqib is someone I hope becomes that sort of Player and Person. Buuut, people ussually don’t change that dramatically. I know I’m nervous with him tring to be the leader of our young secondary, once the Great Ronde Barber is no longer gracing us with his presence.
March 7th, 2011 at 1:38 pm
Don’t be so sensative ‘joe.’
They are right. It is an old story. Working in the Internet, in the Internet Age, you should be aware that a story over a week old, is well, old. Had you put at least a disclaimer at the beginning about how it was old and you were just getting around to it (like you have previously done,) nobody would have given you crap.
March 7th, 2011 at 1:41 pm
…oh and as for “dont read the story:” well that is not much of an option. The purpose of your blog (purportedly) is to give and comment on Bucs news that is current. People expect that the article they are about to read is current. If it is not, then your blog becomes stale, and will be seen as such. All the childish comebacks in the world wont fix that.
March 7th, 2011 at 1:48 pm
Buccaneers.com? Who goes there for Buc news?
Joe – I do have to say that since I started reading JoeBucsFan.com last year, I know longer go directly to the Trib, Times, their blogs, other blogs, PFT, etc. for Buc news. I know there’s good stuff there but you post/link enough quality stories every day, all day that I get my “fill”. Not even Mondays after games do I go to those sites for Buc columns. (I do go to PFT for general football news)
And the “link” part is important. Some people get on your case for linking stories while not writing your own, but I’d rather not check 6 different sites a day. If there’s a good story out there, you let us know about it.
Now go write another story about how the Young Bucs will become serial killers without the CBA in place so I can go back to making fun of you.

Nanny nanny boo boo, Feel!
March 7th, 2011 at 1:52 pm
Theodore
DITTO!
March 7th, 2011 at 1:53 pm
Feel:
The “purpose” is for Joe to write about whatever he finds interesting. Joe found this video interesting. Joe just saw that video for the first time this morning. As in 2 a.m. this morning.
Did Talib get cut or was he traded that made what Sharpe said outdated?
FYI, the FootballOutsiders.com piece was written before the combine. Scott Smith’s interview with Sterling Sharpe was conducted at the combine.
Yet no one so far has thrown arrows at Joe for the “old” Ruud/Joseph article. 🙁
March 7th, 2011 at 1:54 pm
Joe
Please, DON’T ever take your football and go home!
March 7th, 2011 at 2:00 pm
Thanks Theodore, but Joe would recommend you visit those sites as well (after reading Joe) because sometimes they have information that Joe doesn’t get to.
Those are the same people who whine about getting ink on the table cloths each morning and had to run out to get a free government-issued digital antennae for their 19-inch black and white that has/had rabbit ears.
Thanks for the kind words Theodore!
March 7th, 2011 at 2:07 pm
I will have to check out Buccanneers.com again, I quit going there when I found JBF!
March 7th, 2011 at 2:11 pm
Joe updates this blog every single day. Nuff said.
March 7th, 2011 at 2:12 pm
I’m with Theodore and OAR. I do go to the oother sites, but only when I read something here that I think may go into more depth in the article…or if it is a slow day on JBF, which in turn always proves to be slow on all Buc fronts. I also check out bucstats.com every couple of days. I did not see this video before today, but since it was from the combine I figured it had been around. Big deal, thank for posting it Joe.
March 7th, 2011 at 2:15 pm
Thanks for the kind words guys.
There is nothing that Sharpe said in that video that makes his statement outdated so Joe has a difficult time comprehending how this is somehow “old.” Joe didn;t hear anything about this before viewing that video.
This is no different than if Joe dug up a radio interview a Bucs player did for an Oregon station last week.
March 7th, 2011 at 2:17 pm
Wow, that set Joe off didn’t it. All good, I’ll take any news no matter the date it was created. I do find it interesting Talib is bad in zone, is that true? He usually gets burned in man to man coverage.
Oar,
have you ever made a post that wasn’t a joke? Not talking sh!t, just curious. I keep waiting for the day when you say “we should (draft, cut, do this, sign, etc) so and so because…” but never happens.
Dont get me wrong, i like the comic relief keep it up.
March 7th, 2011 at 2:22 pm
News to me because it was the first time I saw it.
Keep up the great work Joe
March 7th, 2011 at 2:28 pm
You still the “MAN”..Joe
March 7th, 2011 at 2:32 pm
Ha… one comment about the content of the article… all other comments about the date of the video and the timeliness of this site.
There’s nothing wrong in what Sharpe said. Talib is our best CB, and he is one of the better CBs in the league. However, that doesn’t mean he couldn’t improve and potentially be the best CB in the league. Seriously…. look back at the Steelers game last year. Two plays made that game a blowout. One was Cody Grimm not getting turned around to defend a pass he was in a position to defend that gave up a score (the game was still close at that point of the 2nd quarter). The other was Talib getting beat over the top, but recovering enough to almost intercept a slightly underthrown pass and instead tipping it into the hands of the WR for another TD that put us a couple scores down and playing catch up. If Talib can continue to improve and play “to his potential”, this team could be dangerous.
Then look for the young guys we already have on the team to improve and the “new” guys we get won’t be critical role players this year. They’ll help, of course, but they won’t be the key to success. Improvement from guys like McCoy, Blount, Mike Williams, Freeman, Benn, Biggers, Grimm, Lewis, Price will help a lot more than a rookie or two coming in and “blowing it up”.
March 7th, 2011 at 2:42 pm
Look, ‘joe,’ Like I said, if you had put that at the beginning, like you did with the footballoutsiders article, nobody would have said word one. I wasn’t even the one giving you crap about it, but I had always ASSUMED you wanted to be current. Judging by the rest of the comments, a good deal of your readers don’t give a crap about how current stuff is, so I will back off.
But despite the fact that you continue time and again to prove yourself a small little man with thin skin(or men rather, since you guys aren’t really men enough to put real names to your articles, opting for the anonymous ‘joe’ pseudonym), I still read your blog. It is really the only centralized place to get all the Bucs news that comes out in a (usually) timely fashion. I just wish that any time somebody offered even the slightest criticism it wasn’t always given a sarcastic and defensive reply. Having said that, I await your sarcastic, defensive reply (I also await my berating from your sycophants.)
March 7th, 2011 at 2:46 pm
Feel,
I’m not berating you at all… just laughing at how most posts are in response to how current or “relevant” the article is or how others didn’t know the difference because this is the “only site they use” for Bucs news. I just thought the “bickering” was funny because it took the entire topic and threw it under the bus.
March 7th, 2011 at 3:00 pm
LOL, good point BamBam…and I am guilty!
March 7th, 2011 at 3:20 pm
I don’t mind at all when you post ‘old’ content.
It does get a bit annoying though when you tease what’s in the content because often I can’t watch the videos for myself (and I know others are in this boat too).
March 7th, 2011 at 3:26 pm
Joe, You’re a stronger man than I. I would never run a Bucs’ blog. Not after seeing some of the jokers that come on here. Keep up the good work.
March 7th, 2011 at 3:58 pm
Joe, I do love how hands on you are with the comments for your articles. You’re always responding and interacting with your readers. It gives the site a genuine, non-corporate feel. imo though, you needn’t respond to all criticism so defensively. All you needed to say in response was that you had just found the video. Your fans are completely okay with that. I don’t mind getting content late, because you’re always posting so much content.
March 7th, 2011 at 4:02 pm
Joe here,
@Feel – Ok. You asked for it (you did, in fact). So now the other Joe will have a say . It’s not a defensive reply when Joe says “then go somewhere else” or “don’t read it then.” Joe really means that. That’s what Joe would tell you if you sat next to him in a bar and brought the same take. Yes, Joe loves his readers, but Joe knows he can’t win with everyone since there will be 50,000+ unique visitors this month coming multiple times a month.
Joe tries to keep it real around here. When Joe finds something interesting about the Bucs, he comments on it. When Joe has something to say, he writes about it. When it’s gameday, Joe is all over it like no other. Whatever.
“Current” can be defined in many ways when it comes to a blog. But to say Joe’s not current is just being a weeny, so don’t expect Joe to be quiet about that.
March 7th, 2011 at 4:50 pm
Yeah yeah. Any news is better than no news. No complaints here, Joe.
I’ve been reading a lot of mock drafts, as many as possible. Everybody pretty much has the Bucs taking a DE. There is no way way in hell Dom takes Clayborne. I don’t think it is Kerrigan either. My guess is it will be Mike Pouncy, but I hope they take Justin Houston because I think he is the best fit. If Julio Jones is still around at 20, I think he would be to good to pass on, but he’ll be gone.
March 7th, 2011 at 5:23 pm
Thanks Vince.
It was the first time Joe saw the video in question and, again, Sharpe didn’t say anything that is outdated. Shoot, in the second paragraph Joe clearly explained where the interview took place.
Now if Joe posted a videe and Sharpe was explaining how Jim Bates should use Chris Hovan, then, yeah, Joe could understand how that would be “old.”
March 7th, 2011 at 5:29 pm
Feel:
In the second paragraph Joe wrote clearly where the interview took place. Maybe Joe shouldn’t have assumed Bucs fans knew that the combine was last week.
March 7th, 2011 at 6:52 pm
And speaking of “Old” content, that picture of Brooke Burke was awesome.
Since I still listen to Jimi Hendrix, does that make me old and out of touch? or just “Old”?
March 7th, 2011 at 7:05 pm
I love when someone tries to define a blog: “The purpose of your blog (purportedly) is to give and comment on Bucs news that is current.” – Feel
How the hell would you know the purpose of Joe’s blog??
A blog is the brainchild of whomever writes it.
Thanks for all the hard work Joe.
March 7th, 2011 at 7:16 pm
I like how feel:
A) is calling the Joes small and petty for defending their work
B) is calling out the Joes for remaining anonymous
Hey asshole, I don’t see your real name on your username. Furthermore, isn’t pointing out the fact that this video was posted on bucs.com a week ago just as petty as getting defensive.
You said it yourself, “I still read your blog. It is really the only centralized place to get all the Bucs news that comes out in a (usually) timely fashion.” So after admitting that the joes are usually timely with their posts, you choose to point out one of the few times that a post isn’t current??
So, who’s being petty, again??
March 7th, 2011 at 7:40 pm
How’s the new message board coming over there? It’s going to be ready by “this fall” I hear….
March 7th, 2011 at 7:50 pm
Gary
I have commented on football before! A lot of the times someone else had said what I would or wouldn’t, etc. Also Im not a huge college fan (except for the Florida college teams) and don’t have a lot of personal info on the draft, just what I read or hear from here, NFL network or ESPN.
March 7th, 2011 at 8:01 pm
I know I’m late on this, but that’s appropriate, since late is the issue here. I just wanted to say that this is the only website I visit daily. I get most my Bucs news here, by word of mouth, or by watching the games.
Joe I enjoy your nonformal writing style, your nicknames for various columnists or networks, and the fact that you do update this blog several times daily and take the time to comment on your own posts.
March 7th, 2011 at 8:22 pm
Gary,
Oar will trade blows with the best of them. We used to be adversaries…lol
March 7th, 2011 at 10:20 pm
All this whining about old news. Get over it. (new to me)
The News in this post and link(thanks Joe), is What Mr. Sharp said at the end They better strap it on in the NFC South… because we will be bringing it. Falcons Saints Panthers get ready.
March 8th, 2011 at 12:53 am
I agree – quit complaining, people. I always check JBF first every day and everything else is just gravy (even ESPN and Mr. Bias, Pat Yasinskas). I love the story and it’s good to hear something a little different from all of the other cookie cutter crap you see in the offseason.
P.S. I’ve been loving The Commish draft coverage. Great stuff. Kudos to Justin.
March 8th, 2011 at 2:14 am
my bad joe
March 8th, 2011 at 10:20 am
Hire
What do mean “used to be” adversaries? Don’t you know talk like that, will piss my caped sidekick off?… LOL!
March 8th, 2011 at 10:37 am
No such thing as untimely bucs analysis, i still think painfully about how we did not re-sign Doug back in the 80’s. Seems like yesterday to me.
As for veterans, be nice if the ones we had played better, and if we got some more to play better rather than take the cheap road like we are.
You know, a complete football team and all.
March 8th, 2011 at 11:18 am

Hahaha
