I agree with Brian, he has our needs well assessed. Fortunately for Tampa, this draft is rich in defensive ends. Don’t be surprised to see Tampa attempt to add a real speed burner of a receiver in this draft.

Spears? Really? Spears has 8 sacks total out of 5 years in the league. Not exactly a dominant DE with those numbers.

Seriously… Any true Bucs fan knows that CB really shouldn’t be a real need going into this draft. We need a defensive end, linebackers, and maybe a safety on defense. Then on offense we need a halfback, speedy WR, backup TE, and a few more offensive lineman.

LOL, Apple Roof Cleaning is easily impressed. We would only draft a corner if a real gem slipped to a later round. Brian Billick probably did 32 of these in a couple of hours.

I would take Dontay Moch in round one just because I don’t think he slips to us in round two. Crazy I know but…
Big and super duper fast. How could you not want this guy? Imagine a LB with 4.4 speed? That’s like Madden create your own player and giving him 100 speed. Would be sick. Make him a 240 LB Will.

weneeddefense- Ill tell you why you wouldn’t take Moch. Because Martez Wilson out of illinois ran 4.44 also. Wilson is a much more polished player than Moch with speed to rival him. Moch will be a project player. He is a defensive end in college but would have to move to linebacker in the Bucs scheme because he is only 248 lbs. and who knows if he would ever learn the position. Either that or he would be a third down pass rusher only and the Bucs don’t need to be spending their first rounder on a situational defender. Even in the second round he would be a reach if there are serious questions about him successfully transitioning his game.

I admit, I really like Martez Wilson.
I bet the so called draft gurus are gonna change their LB rankings a little after the combine.
Just for fun, imagine drafting Wilson then Moch in round two. Just imagine that for a minute. Holy smokes that would be a blazing fast LB core. Perfect for a cover-2 hybrid. Team those guys up with Geno Hayes and Quincy Black, that would be exciting.
When Madden 2011 comes out, I’m trading for those players.

Here is a really good link I found regarding all LBs and DL results today.
I would like this guy in the middle rounds perhaps as a consolation prize:
Brooks Reed/DE-OLB/Arizona: Reed was one of the fastest players on the field, timing in the low-4.6s on both 40 attempts. He looked strong as a bull in drills and was as intense as anyone in the stadium.

Justin Houston and Ross Homan both look strong with 30+ bench reps as well as quick with low 4-6 40s. Not bad for big athletically strong athletes.

In case you haven’t noticed, today is Christmas in Feb for me. I mean today was the day the LBs and DEs went at it in the combine. This information will likely affect all the mock drafts out there.

Here is a RB that can fly 4.40 and is strong 25 reps on the bench. Would be a great compliment to Blount.

Justin Houston is definitely on the Bucs radar for that #20 pick. He might be the overall best fit for their scheme seeing as how he was a straight 4-3 defensive end in years previous but got some experience playing outside linebacker this year while still seeing plenty of time rushing from the DE spot, so he would be at home playing DE in the base 4-3 but also have a clue what he was doing when they move him to linebacker in the 3-4 and 3-3-5 fronts. Guys like Aldon Smith and Ryan Kerrigan’s body types and athletic ability project for them to be able to play rush linebacker in the NFL but they dont yet have the actual experience doing it that Justin Houston has. Houston may not have quite as much upside as Aldon Smith but he looks like he could be the guy who is most ready to make an impact in ALL of the Bucs defensive fronts from day one.

Also Houston’s 40 time(tops amongst 1 round DE prospects) lends weight to the theory that he actually has the quickest get off around the edge of any of the d-line prospects(including Bowers and Quinn).

Funny, looking through history, Barrett Ruud ran a 4.75.
Quincy Black ran a blazing 4.42 and put up a whole lot of other crazy numbers at the combine.
To me, Black was a combine warrior who still has potential, while Ruud will always be average for a LB.
The current stud LBs in the NFL all ran from the low 4-6s to the mid 4.4s.
40s aren’t everything, but being extra slow never helps in the NFL.

gotbbucs- I know damn right? Akeem Ayers is slooooooooooowww!!!! And weak!!! Only 18 reps at 254 lbs?????!!!! a 4.8 40??????!!!!!! LMAO!!! HELL Cameron Jordan is a 287lb. 5 tech. defensive end and ran a faster 40!! I know some people don’t think the combine doesnt matter but exposing dudes like this are exactly why the combine exists.

Oops- I forgot to mention Ayers had the WORST 3 cone drill time of all the linebackers too. I think Ayers has my nomination for biggest draft stock freefall after the combine.

I knew it was only a matter of time until the Martez Wilson hype train started up. That’s a really fast 40 time for a guy his size but my question is why does he look like a 4.7-4.8 40 guy on a football field? His 40 time doesn’t match his game speed IMO. I still think he’s a mid 2nd round prospect but that time may have moved him up to possibly the early 2nd.

Drafting Wilson and Moch at all, let alone being our first two picks would be a mistake imo. From watching Wilson actually play, he just reminds me of a bigger, faster Ruud. Good coverage guy, not as physical as you would want, but the difference is that Ruud has good instincts but is slow, while Wilson is faster, but is less instinctive. Im just not sure if he would be THAT big of an upgrade. And as far as Moch, he is just another workout warrior. He put up good numbers in college but he played in the WAC which isnt that much of a powerhouse. He has no insticts and just speed rushes all the time. If we go LB, I would like Carter or Irving. Just my $.02

If we take Houston at #20, providing he’s still there, that will cover OLB and DE in one player which will open us up to get another DE or TE with our second pick. I would love to see us take Houston DE/OLB 1st, Williams TE 2nd and Romeus DE 3rd. JMHO

Numbers are important, but not everything, I read somewhere Blount runs a 4.75 40.

It always comes back to how fast a guy plays Apple Roof. That’s why 40 times at the combine don’t mean a whole lot. More than anything the main thing that teams take away from a guys 40 time is his ten yard split.
