Bucs Looking Lockout Vulnerable
February 23rd, 2011Derrick Brooks has spoken multiple times on radio about how he believes the Bucs could be hurt immeasurably in the event of a lockout — because they’re so young and learning how to be professionals.
Mike Alstott essentially echoed that sentiment during his tour of many local radio stations last week.
But the thoughts of these icons clashed with Mark Dominik’s comments to Roy Cummings of the The Tampa Tribune weeks ago. Dominik said the Bucs’ youth, energy and subsequent health and fitness would serve them well during any off time.
Now there’s a new voice that says the lockout will hurt the Bucs disproportionately. That’s Dan Pompei, longtime NFL scribe now working for NationalFootballPost.com.
Pompei identified 12 teams that could pay a price in the event of a lockout. All had either new coaches or coordinators except the Bucs.
… and Bucs (this is a young team that needs as much work as possible to take the next step).
This issue can be spun so many ways, but Joe’s never going to believe a very young team like the Bucs is going to be more disciplined during time away from team supervision than a veteran- laden club would be.
Raheem Morris might be called on for more miracle work to get the Bucs in the playoffs, if he ends up with abbreviated training camp and preseason.

Just one of a laundry list of excuses likely to be utilized in the coming season.

Joe here,
@eric – most definitely it’ll be hanging out there if the Bucs don’t make the playoffs (and there’s a lockout). But to Dominik’s credit he’s not playing along. He might even believe what he’s saying.

The only advantage that being so young provides is the physical side of things. A young player maintains physical attributes (speed, agility, etc.) easier than an old guy does if they both sit around more than they should for that time of year.

Of course Dominick believes what he says. He’s ussually right. I remember him going with the 10-6 prediction. Anyone who can call their shots like that deserves credibility. That’s impressive, and just earns trust in his other predictions.
By the the, what was your predictions for last season, Eric? Hmmm, not much psychic ability there!! You won’t, but you probably should restrain yourself from predictions. It results in you losing all that wonderful credibility you’ve earned- lol

I don’t know about you guys but I’ve already stocked up on water and canned food. In just a few days, the Tampa Bay Young Bucs will be released into society without the moral compass the CBA provides. I encourage all of you to take precautions as well.

I’m on Dom’s side on this one. Yes we wont be as disciplined but that is offset by the fact that we dont NEED to be as disciplined to maintain since we are so young.
That combined with the fact that those young guys saw what its like to be successful in the NFL, I’m not too worried. I would be more worried if we had another 3-13 season, that would surely make me get tore up in the offseason!

Hilarious Theodore!

What a terrify senario!! If the players aren’t at work, it would be almost like they are on– Vacation!! God knows none of us can manage free time, money, and no absolute authority to govern us!! Damn the USSR for collapsing. We could have sent them all to Siberia for Monitoring and totalitarianism!
Listen, if they cant behave well enough to maintain their multiple million dollar jobs, then they are so stupid that I want them outta here. These are grown, educated men. They should be able to manage.
You guys are republicans, aren’t ya?
Oddly, some people can manage without Big Brother.
It’d called “freedom”- rare, but not totally extinct yet.

No training camp or a significantly abbreviated one will be devastating! Youth heals the young body quicker, but the lack of experience gets them hurt faster. Would Blount have gotten that one yard in Atlanta if he had the benefit of a Bucs training camp? How long did it take for Benn to grasp the playbook? Will any defensive help we get in the draft be of any help without acess to Millard or Stretz? Of all the teams we play in 2011, with the possible exception of Carolina, the Bucs will be hurt the most.

My problem with vets like Brooks and Alstott on this:
Did they experience a lockout as players?
While I believe they know the ins and outs as well as anyone, how would they know, specifically, that this will have a NEGATIVE impact…And how it would be worse for a YOUNG team than an old one?
While I am hoping there is no lockout, I see a fairly self disciplined young team doing what they need to be prepared and stay fit.
LOL, Gary…I thought the same thing when I read Theodore’s post!

Skookum
First, “Did they experience a lockout as players?”
So I guess, you are only willing to listen to players from that played between 1986 and 1987? Yeah I guess, advice from Keith Browner(LB) or Pat Franklin(RB) would be better!?
Second, “how would they know, specifically, that this will have a NEGATIVE impact”
Well heck, why do they even have training camp and pre-season at all then? Of course it would have a negative impact!
Third, “And how it would be worse for a YOUNG team than an old one?”
Well, gee, “YOUNG” are inexperienced and some are still learning offensive and defensive plays/scheme! Veterans would seem to have an upperhand!? Shoot, even the new rookies need to learn the speed of the NFL games.

“Just one of a laundry list of excuses likely to be utilized in the coming season.”
———-
Nope, I’m just going to use all of your excuses for last year. I’ll say things like “the other team got lucky”, or “our schedule was too hard”, or “the QB’s we faced were too good”. The only people on this board who make excuses are you and your friend Thomas. But to not acknowledge that this could be harmful to a young team is, for lack of a better word, Eric-like.
February 23rd, 2011 at 9:56 pm
Eric- why are you here? Why do you keep posting about a team you so clearly want to fail. You already assume next year will be a failure and that they will need excuses. I ask you again- why do you want this team to fail? Oh wait, I already know why. Its because your a racist fag who wants the coach to be fired so bad that you actually want the team to lose. Keep talking your garbage in every thread and I’ll keep calling you a racist.

Eric is right. The RahDom supporters will use it as an excuse and will claim that it wasn’t fair that they didnt get a whole offseason because of the lockout.
And my response will be that it is fair because they wasted the 2009 offseason with two QBs that never made it to week 3 and two coordinators that didn’t finish the season.
February 24th, 2011 at 4:25 am
Well Jerry and Eric, you guys can be two pessimistic fans if you want. It really doesn’t matter, because I think we are going to have a great season next year. And when that happens, it will be the two of you that will be searching for excuses.
February 24th, 2011 at 5:48 am
By the way, I love how the haters say things like “RahDom supporters” as if that’s a bad thing. They are the coach and GM of my team, should I not be? I guess I should be one of those bitter, know-it-all, negative fans who thinks I could do a better job than the guys hired to do it. There’s a reason why those guys have the job they do, and we sit around on JBF.com thinking we know more than we really do.
