Raheem Officially Runner-Up To Belicheat

February 3rd, 2011

The votes are in from 50 allegedly educated sportswriters across the nation, and legendary Patriots cheat Bill Belichick is the NFL Coach of the Year.

Booooo.

Per ProFootballTalk.com, Belichick garnered 30 of the 50 votes. Raheem Morris of the Bucs was second with 11. Todd Haley of the Chiefs had 4.5.

Joe just doesn’t get how the voters overlooked the simple math of it all.

Most pundits probably pegged the Pats for 11 wins, but they won 14.  And those same experts, including local voter eye-RAH! Kaufman of The Tampa Tribune, picked the Bucs to win about five games, but they finished with 10.

So how exactly did Belicheat “outcoach” Raheem in 2010?

Looking at just the regular season snapshot, which the Coach of the Year voting is, Raheem had the youngest team in the NFL and led a bunch of rookies and no-names to 10 wins. The Bucs won three of their last four games relying on guys like Al Woods, Frank Okam, Dakoda Watson, Corey Lynch and E.J. Biggers to start on defense.

But forgetting about that, one would think Raheem’s story, and the Bucs’ success, would have been enough to sway more voters to give him the nod over, say, an arrogant, sweathirt-wearing, media loathing cheater like Belichick.

Evil does win out sometimes.

    That sucks!!

  2. safety Says:

    Boooooooooo!

  3. Gary Says:

Yet another slap in the face. Why is everything given on a silver platter to those bastards in NE and everything has to be stolen by us to have it.

    Total BS.

The worst part is it wasnt even close. 30-11 means the lack of national exposure really hurt Rah’s chances.

  4. D-Rome Says:

Just about everyone outside of Tampa Bay can see how and why Bill Belichick won. When you look at the entire body of work and the inexperienced personnel he had at key positions it’s really a no brainer.

  5. bucfanjeff Says:

..and the hoodie coached so well in the playoffs.

    Rigged or uneducated voters.

  6. Brad Says:

Booo!! Not to get picky but Raheem had 11.5 votes. Of course if Ira would have done the right thing he could have possibly swayed voters to look at Raheem but when your local guy is an idiot and picks someone else, I guess second is something Raheem can be proud of.

On another note I wish a memo would go out to all media members of the NFL network and the 4 letter network that Josh Freeman of our Tampa Bay Buccaneers was second in rushing behind Vick not Aaron Rogers. I heard someone last night on NFL network and heard earlier in the week on ESPN get this wrong. You would think networks that cover only football and the other that covers just sports would get this right. Of course equally as bad was when Josh was on Espn and they listed him with only 15 td’s instead of 25.. Come on man!!

  7. MOBucs Says:

Bummed me out when I saw this last night. I honestly didn’t think Rah would win because of the team’s lack if national exposure, but am surprised that Belichick won. I think that either coach in the superbowl this weekend are more deserving. At least Rah came in second, ahead of those guys and others like Haley and Lovie Smith.

  8. Gavster Says:

Guys really? Look great season for Raheem but realistically it was nowhere near deserving of Coy. Patriots had injuries to no true # 1 wr d- line issues and they went 14-2. Raheem did a solid job but I just think that not making the playoffs killed his chances. If we were 11-5 I’d be pissed but we went 10-6 great season but the voters got this right.

  9. McBuc Says:

Gavstar…By your logic the guy from the Chiefs or Lovie should have won.

  10. Gavster Says:

Haley didn’t do anything special and love smith didnt either….. I love what Raheem did but to say this was a bad vote is stupid. B deserved to win it so don’t say that it’s a slap in the face. A slap in the face is having a great young team against the falcons and airing the god damn Indy cowboys game….

  11. Guest#27 Says:

    They forgot about Mike McCarthy.

Bill had 30, Rah had 11… not even close.

Rah has said he always wanted to be like Bill. Now he can forever follow in his foot steps.

  12. fanaticalbucsfan Says:

What a joke. I can think of at least 5 coaches who deserved coach of the year more than belicheat. AP your pathetic!

  13. McBuc Says:

Gavster, I do agree that missing the play offs hurt him. The Bears and Chiefs over achieved a little. You are right about the reciever, Wes was their number 1 guy and he is in the slot. Brady came in ranked number one, and he was way ahead of everyone else. You can have a young defense when your QB throws 35 TDs and 4 INTs. I do get your point though.

  14. Factoidboy Says:

Gavster and D-Rome, you guys are right on. Belichick did such a great job with so little. A team rittled with injuries, lost 2 safeties, both starting DT’s, one LB, one pro bowl caliber CB, 3 starting OL, 1 WR, started 10 rookies, and all with a second year QB!… NO WAIT THAT WAS RAHEEM. BELICHEAT HAD A FRIGGIN HALL OF FAME QB.

  15. Joke Says:

I don’t like Belichick at all, but the guy did a great job this year. Not an unreasonable pick for Coach of the Year.

Would’ve loved to see Raheem #1, but he’s still owed major congratulations. Lots of critics complained that he was in over his head, and at the start of his tenure (hiring then firing both an OC and DC before his first season was over) it looked like they might be right. But now he’s righted the ship, had a fantastic turnaround from 3-13 to 10-6, and is now recognized as having been superior to 30 of the other 31 NFL head coaches.

Hats off to Raheem, and of course to Dominik (who got him the players) and to the Glazers for hiring both. And the recognition reflects well on Raheem’s entire staff, too– in my opinion, Olson was easily OC of the year.

    Factoidboy…..beautifully said.

  17. Capt.Tim Says:

Joke- congrats! That was a perfect post. Intelligent and spot on. Sadly I agree with every word, though I wanted Coach Morris to win! Thanks for a ray of of brilliance !

  18. Mr. Lucky Says:

Well it just goes to show how many HOMERS post on this site.

Raheem did a good job but lack of national exposure cost him probably 5-7 votes. Maybe if the Bucs had won their home game against Detroit and actually made the playoffs…..

If stats are for losers imagine what a post-season award is…..

  19. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    Mr. Lucky,

Not to be a smart arse, but I would think we would all be homers, since we are all Bucs fans (aren’t we?). Actually, I totally agree with you on the national exposure thing. There is no doubt that cost him the award, as it cost Josh Freeman a Pro Bowl trip. That will all come with time, especially as our incredibly young team develops into a great team. I’m not going to cry about him not getting the award, and I highly doubt he is either.
