Bisaccia Loss Not “Cheapness By The Glazers”
January 12th, 2011Rich Bisaccia’s not a guy who did many local interviews in his time, so Joe found it significant today when the dean of Tampa Bay sports radio, Steve Duemig of WDAE-AM 620, talked a bit about his longtime friendship with Bisaccia today and of a recent conversation they had.
Duemig said Bisaccia had a great offer from another organization — not the Chargers — and that San Diego’s money offer must have really knocked his socks off.
Duemig assured listeners that Bisaccia received an offer from the Bucs and the loss of the special teams coach had nothing to do with “cheapness by the Glazers” and there was no bad blood behind the scenes.
Gregg Rosenthal, of ProFootballTalk.com, implied in a post yesterday that the loss of Bisaccia was a belt-tightening move.
The guy with all the answers is Bisaccia, of course. Maybe he’ll talk one day. Maybe not.
Joe’s much more interested in how good his replacement will be. Yes, Bisaccia was known for his leadership, but the Bucs seem to have that aspect of the team sewn up pretty well at this point.

He was a Gruden guy who was held to the contract he signed, did his job and wants to be in a place to make a splash (SD special teams) so he can get the visibility to be an OC or college HC. Those things he would NOT get in Tampa.
thanks for your service Rich – good luck in your career.
This isn’t rocket surgery.

So if we sign the Vikings D-line coach as our D-line coach does that mean the Vikings are cheap?
January 12th, 2011 at 5:35 pm
Joe, good points. Any news on whether the Vikes DL coach has accepted our offer?
January 12th, 2011 at 5:35 pm
I expected the loss Bisacchia after the season. He is considered one of the very best ST coordinators in the league and was sure to be in demand. I’m sure he’s the highest paid ST coord. in the league after signing with San Diego. These types of changes happen to every coaching staff in the league! Being cheap has nothing to do with this! I just hope Olsen or Van Pelt aren’t given offers they can’t refuse.

d-money,
Probably to someone, in some sort of way. Funny/crazy, isn’t it?
January 12th, 2011 at 6:15 pm
IMO…it was a chemistry/cultural fit going forward
January 12th, 2011 at 6:16 pm
I’m not sure this was a good longterm move for Rich. He’s starting to be labeled a “great special teams coach”, but not even being considered for any Head Coaching positions. Good luck to him though. He did a great job for us.
January 12th, 2011 at 6:27 pm
MO,
Olsen is still under contract this year. Lets hope another good season and tampa keeps him
January 12th, 2011 at 6:40 pm
has anyone thought about Norv not being there for very much longer if SD keeps crapping the bed around playoff time? Rich could , in theory, be in line soon for a coordinators spot in the near future..
January 12th, 2011 at 6:52 pm
Duemig also said he had a source who said the Glazers sold the Bucs about 10 years ago. ZZZZZZZZZZZ!

As far as coaches go, I’m glad John Fox is no longer in Carolina. John Fox is damn good coach. I like him, and now that he is no longer the enemy, I hope he gets the Bronco’s Head Coaching job. If not, he would make an excellent DC for Raheem. Raheem is doing a good job now, but he could he could learn a few things from John Fox and help hone his skills until Fox gets his next HC job. Just a thought.

Bisaccia is a dirtbad, he left the Bucs for SD and dissed us on top of that. I don’t care how much Joe and his friends want to cover up for him, it is what it is.
January 12th, 2011 at 8:48 pm
I agree BigMacAttack, John Fox is an awesome coach. I think he was the Giants defensive Coordinator once ?
January 12th, 2011 at 9:02 pm
Here is the deal with Bisaccia… he is a great ST Coordinator, one of the best in the league. He has proved it time and again with his Bucs units but, he has plateaued in Tampa. I believe he has HC aspirations and can not even get sniff at this point. The highest profile job he could fill would be the putrid San Diego ST job. After finishing 1st in defense/offense respectively, the projected high level that Bisccia will bring San Diego to will undoubtedly make the noise and create the headlines he will need to get an HC gig. Who among you think he would not make a great HC? John Harbaugh has been stellar since he came out as Philly ST coordinator, there is no reason Bisaccia can not aim at doing the same, and in my opinion, without a doubt, he is trying to do just that by most likely adding the missing link to a Super Bowl run for the Chargers thus creating the buzz he will likely get when he does so. It’s all about positioning yourself to be go the highest you can go in the NFL. Does anyone agree?
January 12th, 2011 at 10:32 pm
There’s been talk of Olson to Chiefs, which would be terrible……
January 12th, 2011 at 11:05 pm
@DanBucFan, I don’t think if San Diego fires Norv Turner that their fans will be happy with Rich as Head Coach. Norv Turner is a big name coach, and fans will want him replaced by the same.
January 12th, 2011 at 11:18 pm
@Apple Roof Cleaning.. I don’t necessarily expect him nor do I expect Rcih to to take over as head coach of San Diego.. I am thinking other jobs at pro or college level. Based on projected numbers the Chargers should put on offense/defense in 2011, any type of improvement on one of worst special teams in history of NFL should put this team in great position to compete in the AFC. All fingers will point to Rich on turning this team around… At least that is what I think Rich thinks will happen.. thus creating much needed buzz coaches crave to advance careers.. Buzz he would not get in Tampa even if he had a top 5 special teams unit next year here in Tampa.

The Dean of Tampa Bay sports radio? The same person who claimed the Freeman pick was going to set the Buccaneers ten years back.
[Sorry Joe had to edit your post bucx01. Joe has a working relationship with Clear Channel. You can be critical of the on-air talent but no need to get personal. To be fair, Joe, J.P. Peterson, and many, many others both local and national thought the Bucs were out of their minds to draft Freeman. Joe was at the draft day party at the CITS and Freeman’s pick was roundly booed by Bucs fans. Joe is happy he’s eaten crow over that.]

Who on Earth would want to work FOR RaheeEEEEEEm???
Leave now before the tougher schedule comes about next season.
Smart move!
January 13th, 2011 at 12:37 am
@Buc You,
I wish you were logical enough to realize how stupid of a statement you just made.
January 13th, 2011 at 12:52 am
buc you says is a DOPE nothing more needs to be said, that is unless he asks you if you want fries with that….dudes a loser
January 13th, 2011 at 1:30 am
What a disgrace having to work for a guy like Raheeem Morris.
I mean the guy came right and said he enjoyed working for a great coach and mentioned Gruden… but not Raheem, even just for saying the right thing to the media with no recoil.
Rich was not happy about working under Raheem because he didn’t respect the moron.
That’s the real story. Tell JBF.
January 13th, 2011 at 1:37 am
Everyone wanted to run Raheem out of town last year. Now they want him to be coach of the year.
It will be interesting to see what happens next year with the tougher schedule.
January 13th, 2011 at 8:31 am
@Dan Buc Fan
That’s one way to look at his situation, but if his special team unit doesn’t do anything special then he will be viewed as a major faliure and will never get a HC job anywere, at least if he stayed here and the ST regresed he had many years of good work to cover up for that. And if what u said is true, then we could conclude that he stayed here last year in hope that we had another bad year and hopefully take over for Rah which makes him an even bigger dirtbag.
January 13th, 2011 at 10:49 am
Well ….. I hate to say this since I live here, but as far as a place to live goes, SD just absolutely blows Tampa away.
January 13th, 2011 at 11:20 am
I think thjis was all about Rich Bisaccia looking for an opportunity. He was passed up here for promotion to Coordinator. Now iwht a young coaching staff in place, his chances of moving up are limited.
In SD, Norv Turner is probably not long for employment over the next year or two. I think Rich sees an opportunity to move up the ladder there…. and the money was good.
January 13th, 2011 at 11:58 am
No worries Joe, but just so we are clear it is only ok to get personal about people who do not benefit you financially? Got it.
