Briscoe Steps Up Big

And with the season on the line who was the Bucs leading receiver in the thrashing of the Saints?
Dezmon Briscoe.
The success of this whole next-man-up thing the Bucs have working keeps boggling Joe’s mind. It’s to the point where you have to assume a guy is talented as hell if he’s on the Bucs roster.
Briscoe is a 21-year-old Mark Dominik rookie special snatched off the Bengals practice squad a few weeks ago, a move that made Cincinnati head coach Marvin Lewis cry like a baby.
After getting his feet wet with two catches last week against Seattle, Briscoe ripped off four catches and one of the sickest grabs of the Bucs season in the end zone on a fade route for the Bucs first touchdown today.
Joe is pretty confident the Bucs now will wash their hands of Maurice Stovall. Minus Stovall, here’s the receiving corps:
Mike Williams
Arrelious Benn (returning from injury)
Sammie Stroughter
Preston Parker
Dezmon Briscoe
Micheal Spurlock
Maybe the Bucs snag a solid free agent receiver as insurance in case Benn isn’t ready for next season.

Jay Cutler sucks.
Not impressed with any of the NFC playoff teams.

Philly…. Kolb? Really?
GB? Not impressive.

I’m thinking if Benn isn’t ready to go to start the season, Briscoe is the man to step in and start. He has looked pretty good the past 2 games. Could be wicked having Williams, Benn, Briscoe and K2 on the field and Blount in the backfield with Freeman chucking the ball.

Why so quick to kick Stovall out of town???????? Every teams keeps dedicated special teams guys. So Stovall gets the boot while the Bucs hang on to special teamer Niko Koutovides who has zero ability to actually play on the defense????? There is no reason to bring in a veteran reciever. I think we saw that the current platoon can handle the #2 duties. Briscoe actually looks like a legitimate #2 who should be able to claim the position outright to start the season if Benn isn’t ready. Bring in a free agent WR?? Like who? Like that guy who’s name I cant even remember now, that they traded for and then he didn’t even make the team? There is no reason to spend even mid-level free agent money on a WR with what the Bucs already have in their recieving core and the holes they have elsewhere.

As much as we need a DE or LB in the draft, if Justin Blackmon is there for us to take, can you imagine: Williams, Blackmon, Benn, Stroughter, Briscoe, Parker, and Spurlock???

Amazing what happens in one year. Last year’s WR corp was horrible, today a deep, bunch of playmaking players. Briscoe is as advertised, what a great catch today.

First, Stovall is a free agent. Second, Stovall is no longer an asset on special teams. Third, he has never been a factor offensively in how many years?

we need someone who sacks the quaterback be it linebacker D end whatever the offence is all set as far as playmakers. A lillte more O line help yeah but wideouts we are good to go

Part of it is that they have some talent, but it really comes down to COACHING and the success that the back-up turned starters see other young back-up turned starter guys having. Guys like Mangurian and Yarber . . . and of course MORRIS . . have done incredible jobs.
(As soon as he reads this the Tom 2.1 guy is going to throw up)

Ever wonder how the Colts can just continue to plug WR’s into their offense and they never miss a beat? It’s because Peyton Manning knows how to get them in the right place at all times and throws it out there and lets them make plays. You can see that starting to happen with Freeman and all of these guys on our roster. Where ever Freeman leads, everybody on this team will follow. He is special and every player on that team knows it.

If Benn is looking good in Training Camp then Stovall is gone.
If Benn is not ready, I got to believe they him because he knows the offense and is good on special teams (aside form the non-tackle a couple weeks ago).
The issue is they will have to sign him much sooner than that so it probably is determined by how Benn is coming along.

Address defense first. We need mean carnivours with attitude. Linebackers and defensive ends, maybe lineman healthy and filling gaps. As much as I am amazed with the accomplishments of Blount, I would have our vision filled GM pick us out another Running Back for social as well as physical and skill security reasons. But defense first!!!!

freebird is making this receiving group special…look at peyton manning turning guys like pierre garcon and the rest of those average heads into a solid group….its like in the nba…if you have a great point guard everyone looks good around him as he leads and feeds…same thing with manning and brady, and even freeman….yes i just had the balls to refer to freeman in the same sentence with manning and brady…hopefully i can continue with that reference next season….adam from ny
