Playoffs Doubtful For “Our Buccaneers”

If Joe isn’t watching the NFL Network (or gawking at photos of Rachel Watson), he’s either listening to the King of All Media, Howard Stern, or Adam Schein and Rich Gannon, co-hosts of “The Blitz,” heard exclusively on Sirius NFL Radio.
(Yeah, Joe knows Stern isn’t on Sirius NFL Radio, but like Bill King and Rivals Radio, they all are on Sirius — a great, thoughtful last-minute Christmas gift to a family member or friend.)
The duo answered an e-mail from a Bucs fan about the Bucs chances at the playoffs and the duo weren’t optimistic.
Adam Schein: That loss to Detroit was a killer Rich. I think that loss keeps our Buccaneers out of the tournament.
Rich Gannon: For the Bucs to make the playoffs they have to win at New Orleans the last week of the year and I just don’t see that. The Saints will be playing a meaningful game too. New Orleans already punched them in the mouth this season. With the defense the way it is for Bucs, I can’t see them coming out with a win.
This is what makes that loss to the rebuilding since 1957 Detroit Lions so painful. If “miserable” Drew Stanton can march the Lions down the field, imagine what Drew Brees can do?

They are assuming that the Bucs handle the Seahawks this week.
I remember last week that the Lions were going to be another victim
and they weren’t. Win this game this week and make the Saints game
the game of the year for the Bucs.

They really shocked the world last week with a loss to a team that hadnt won a road game in years with their third string qb playing with a seperated shoulder.
Wow, I am shocked at how bad that sounds.

A playoff appearance and “one and done” is a complete disgrace anyhow.

Even if (big IF) they could scratch and claw their way int too the playoffs, it would be one & done, so the playoffs isn’t a big thing for me. Winning Sunday and securing a winning record however, i think would be a big feather in their cap. I realistically don’t see us beating the Saints in 2 weeks (I know never know,, but), so this week is huge in that respect.
I do see this team as a playoff contender next year and winning at least one game. In two years and beyond, I see them as contenders period. There is too much young talent on this team and if they keep drafting the way they did this year, look out.

You see Eric, when you come in as a head coach, win a Super Bowl and the only win a couple of divisions and appear in the playoffs without running deep, then the fanbase obviously wants to get a new coach.
But what threw the fans off was promoting the fired coach’s DB coach to head coach and keeping his staff. But somehow, this new guy gets every benefit of every doubt. How could that be? In fact, this new totally inexperienced head coach gets lower standards across the board, even in the area or poor coaching decisions and awful time management.
Look, 2010 is far different from the 1990’s. Tony Dungy NEVER got this type of pampering. Tony had to earn it all the way. But somehow, Raheeeeeem gets all this charity, is allowed to ‘learn on the job’ with NO scrutiny, and excuses at every mistake with scapegoats at every mishap.
Why does Raheeeeeem get the free pass? Hmmmmmm.

“Miserable Drew Stanton” was a 2nd round pick, and he played very well. No, he is not Drew Brees, but he beat Tampa. Well, Tampa player selection on our final drive beat Tampa.

No doubt, the Bucs wasted a huge opportunity last week. But their record is good enough that there’s still a real chance they’ll be playing the Saints for a playoff spot next week (ATL beats NO & NYG beats GB this week, among other possibilities).
To go into week 17 with 9 wins already and the opportunity to stamp their own ticket to the playoffs would be an enormous accomplishment for this team, given their youth movement and their play last year.
But even if they lose the next two, an 8-8 record is a success, albeit a very disappointing ending to a promising season.

Didnt we go up to New Orleans last year and beat the saints in OT in the final game of the season?
and Buc You, as for why we give Raheem the benefit of the doubt…its becuase he has all new players. May not have noticed but there are very few relics from the Chucky period; which is what needed to be done frankly.

I am not sure that Raheem gets a pass on much. I also do not see him casting blame, but he typically says he is to blame. I was and still am a huge fan of Gruden. If Morris goes on an up and down roller coaster I would imagine he will get fired too. If he continues to win he will have a job for a while, but we all know the Glazers get a bit impatient after about 5 years or so. He has to deliver the trophy in the next five years, or we will have some other version of Buc You stating how horrible the new coach is and we should have retained Morris.

I can’t believe anyone is disappointed in the Bucs season so far…But I guess some folks are short sighted. Considering youth, injuries, youth, pressure and, of course, YOUTH, this team and coach have done very well this year.

Bucs get an apology on the Winslow call saying it should have been a non call. Too little too late though.

Hey Joe – The Bucs got an apology letter from the NFL regarding the Winslow PI call. And Olson said its not the first one…

caddy, e graham, faine, gilmore, trueblood, joseph, penn, zuttah, styles, hayes, ruud, black, heyward, talib, ronde, t jax – to name a few.
i think i covered about 1/3 of the active roster. i am sure i missed some. josh johnson etc.

And I would not be surprised if Caddy, Faine, Trueblood, Ruud, Black, and T-Jax are gone after this season. Not sure if Hayes and/or Stylez will be starting next year and I also could see Graham and Joseph gone too.

Hey Eric, If the Bucs DO make the playoffs (I doubt it) and then lose their first game does that mean raheem get’s fired the following year if he doesn’t make the playoffs?
