Lions Coach Indentifies Bucs’ Greatness
December 17th, 2010A reporter out in Detroit decided to pen a story today that essentially looks at how the Bucs have eight wins but aren’t that good.
What a fresh concept. Ugh.
Carlos Monarrez, of the Detroit Free Press, caught up with Lions players and head coach Jim Schwartz, who points toward the Bucs’ greatness in the turnover department.
“They’re plus-eight in turnovers, which is sixth in the league,” he said. “So, six teams will make the playoffs. If you want to say they’re playoff caliber in that, they are.
“They’ve done a good job of intercepting the football, and they’ve done a good job of taking care of it on offense. So that’s probably where it starts.”
Though not last week in Washington, the Bucs have been stellar at protecting the ball. And they should be salivating at the chance to intercept Drew Stanton, he of the off-target pass, and put some hats on rookie running back Jahvid Best.
Joe sincerely hopes LeGarrette Blount’s fumble last week didn’t scare Greg Olson too much.

Just imagine our turnover numbers of say…FIVE near INTs had been caught instead of dropped. I know it is no easy thing, but there have been a LOT of dropped INTs this season!

IF not OF in that first line. Durrrrr.

Our offense is pretty average. But, we do excel at a few things. Most notably 3rd down percentage (7th) and turnovers (6th). We are also doing well in the “big play” (40+ yds) department (tied for 9th, with Indy).
Yeah, we’re 21st in yds/game, but 15th in yds/play. So, just about average.
Basically, we are consistently moving the chains on 3rd down, taking care of the ball, all while succeeding with splash plays downfield.
Oh yeah, and by all measures we are just outside the top 10 rushing attacks.

and shwartz’s logic is severely flawed.. we are 6th in the NFL in turnovers. 12 teams make the playoffs from the NFL. we’re 3rd in the conference in turnover differential. We are also a top ten offense in the NFC, with the 5th best rushing attack.

Did anyone click and read that whole article? Its hilarious. Everyone the guy interviews tells him the Bucs are a good team but he keeps trying to give reasons why they are wrong.
What a douche. Although its cool that he is behind his team unlike the Buc hating hack sports writers that we have in this town.
