Bucs Not Worthy Of Playoffs?
December 15th, 2010It seems like “The Professor,” John Clayton of BSPN, one of the few guys Joe can stomach at the Disney outfit, might be losing his fastball.
In this video and the accompanying story, Clayton says that even if the Bucs get in the playoffs, they are not worthy of the honor because a better team like Green Bay, New York, Chicago or Philadelphia would be watching at home.
What a tool. So if the Bucs earn a playoff berth, they still don’t deserve it? Please.
And Mr. Clayton, it’s “Gerald” McCoy, not “Gerard.”

Typical weak national coverage. His claims about our weak schedule are accurate but irrelevant and his lack of knowledge about the squad about par for the course.

Does he know that only the Jets, Steelers, Falcons and Bucs have beaten every sub-.500 team they’ve faced? It’s not easy beating ANY team in the NFL. Teams like the Saints and Patriots have fallen to lesser foes. Sure, they beat better teams than we have, but to be one of four that haven’t lost to a team with a losing record shows they’re taking care of business.

I love this team but I think all those injuries are going to get us, not in the next two weeks of course but that all important Saints game will be tough

I must be crazy cause I didn’t hear him say we didn’t seserve it or disrespect us in anyway. I heard him say he doesn’t know how we are doing it with so many rookies and practice squad guys, and it’s a real credit to Raheem. He said we have the easiest remaining schedule and stand a real chance of getting that wildcard spot which would no be happy for Giants amd Packers fans….what am I missing?

So I guess in Clayton’s logic the team that makes the playoffs out of the piss pore NFC West is more deserving of a playoff spot than the Bucs. OK.

If you win your division you are more deserving than a wild card. It’s not that difficult.

I would like to see the NFL if at all possible balance the schedules a bit more. I know that no game against any team in the NFL is “easy” but the Bucs have had an easy schedule compared to other teams who are playoff bound.

The system, as it stands, is really quite a good system. All but two of a team’s games are decided for the next several years. The teams play each team in their own division twice, they play another division in their conference (every team) and a division in the opposing conference (every team). Tampa was looking at a fairly hard schedule to begin the year; San Francisco, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Cincinatti, New Orleans (twice), Atlanta (twice)…8 of their games were against teams with winning records last year, and when it comes down to it, SOMEBODY has to play the NFC West. Basically, a lot of the “lower tier” teams were thrown at each other this year, and Tampa was the cream that rose to the top. Cincinatti was a great team last year, as was San Fran, teams that were only expected to get better this year. New Orleans was the Super Bowl champs!! Looking at our schedule before the season began, we really didn’t have any horrible patsies; for all this “strength of schedule” BS, we still overcame being the underdog on most games! Every win we have had but this week against Washington, the other team was favored in Vegas!

As an addendum…the two games that were flexed on our schedule…Washington and Detroit…Washington had a lot of pundits picking them for the playoffs! I even thought they had a good shot. Detroit is/was a team that was supposed to get a lot better, they actually are the team that is “supposed” to be where Tampa is now. Our schedule really isn’t near as “weak” as everyone says it is.

The system is good, it just needs one exception rule. Even if you win your division, if there is a team that has 3 or more wins than you, they get your spot.
So if you win your division with and 8-8 record, but there are three wildcard teams with 11-5 records….one of them is taking your spot.

If you don’t get in for winning the division then why have divisions at all? This year in the NFC west is a fluke. When they went to 8 divisions everyone knew there was a remote possibilty that this would happen.
The system is set up for parity. They will never do something like you suggest Jdouble because its designed to give the lesser teams a shot. Its working out just how it is designed.

Take a look at Sagarin. In terms of teams played to date, the Bucs schedule has been stronger than the Saints, Giants, Bears, Chargers, Chiefs, Jaguars, Seahawks, Raiders and Rams among the potential playoff teams. Our last 3 games are against teams an aggregate of one game under .500, so SoS isn’t going to change much. The weakness of our schedule is over-hyped by the media and by haters on this and other sites – on Sagarin it’s actually ranked 20th.

I for one am for reseeding the playoffs. Take the 4 div winners and two wild cards, then Seed them by record, done, so you get credit for winning your div, but you are not guaranteed to get a home game, and if you are winning your div with an 8-8 or 7-9 record, and the two wild cards have 10 wins or more, do you really deserve a home game?

Well, I think it’s pretty damn sad that a 7-9 or 8-8 Rams, Seahawks, or 49ers team could win their division and go to the playoffs while a better team like the Bucs sits at home with a 10-6 or even an 11-5 record.

Tuggz could you please go jump off a bridge? An NFC west team could end up winning that division with a 7-9 or 8-8 record. 9-7 at absolute best. So if the Bucs earned a wild card with 11-5 or 10-6 you really think a 7-9,8-8 team would be more deserving of the playoffs? Please don’t post ever again. Some people are just better off remaining as readers only.
