Concerned About LeGarrette Blount

Before the Bucs decided to use LeGarrette Blount on a regular basis, the Bucs rushing attack this season was nearly as impotent Connie Chung. Since, the Bucs have become something of an offensive force. It just goes to show what a productive rushing attack can do for an offense.
Sadly, if there is a play that Blount will be remembered for this year it’s is his near-first down carry on fourth-and-short near the goal line. A first down, another yard, and the Bucs would have had a first-and-goal inside the Dixie Chicks-2 and who knows what would have happened.
Despite the Dixie Chicks being able to stop Blount on that critical play, Blount sure got the attention of Atlanta coach Mike Smith who seems to be quite concerned with the big Bucs back, by way of cool cat Joe Smith of the St. Petersburg Times.
“He has a special skill set, a 250-pound running back,” Smith said. “When I say he can run over you, I mean he can jump over you or run through you. He’s very powerful. … A big guy like that, you have to make sure that you get as many guys to the tackle as possible. So it’s going to be very important in our run defense to make sure we’re going to disengage and get off blocks.
“He will create some mismatch issues with … guys in our defense if he gets into the second level and on the perimeter of the defense.”
No one knows what the rest of the season entails for the Bucs. Joe still believes the Bucs should win 10 games, but who really knows? If the Bucs somehow go south this month, one only wonders what would have happened had Blount gotten that first down in Atlanta.
Regardless, Joe’s sure glad that Blount is running wild on defenses for the Bucs.

Love Blount. The only thing that concerns me is how violent he plays, which is a double edged sword. He delivers the blows, leaps, etc…but will eventually take beatings from his style.. The lifespan of an nfl running back is short, hopefully his will be extensive.

Love Blount this year as I feel he has really opened up this offense for Free. That being said I don’t think he has a HUGE game being that Falgoons have the 6th ranked rush defense but I do think that he can be effective enough to open up the play action for Free. And I get the strange feeling that if he gets another chance for a 4th and 1 down by the goal line he will bust through that line(hole or not) like a wrecking ball.

Blount helps Freeman aka “Soul Glow” in the play action game. Blount will have many chances to redeem himself for goal line stop last time he played Atlanta. If the Bucs come out and play aggressive on offense and score quickly. Then make it a track meet. Matty will have a tough time scoring quickly.

My only concern is that the past 2 weeks the offense has been playing sporadically.
Freeman has looked confused and it almost seems like Caddy is calling out the coverage(s).
Go back to the game plan in Atlanta and POUND the ROCK!

The other thing I noticed is that that when he IS having a good game, he is drawing attention…Which means Caddy runs under the radar, as in his 35 yd TD run two weeks ago.
This is a GOOD thing. Keep watching Blount, Falcons…It just opens up other opportunities.

With all of our young talent on offense I’ve been racking my brain trying to see who they compare to. I think everybody sees Freeman is one part Rapistburger one part Warren Moon. Ive seen people say Mike Williams’ game/physical attributes look like what Jerry Rice brought to the table. In looking at Blount i can’t help but see that he physically looks like Eddie George running with that upright style but he has the feet and athleticism of Jerome Bettis.
Any thoughts?
