Cody Grimm Not A Starter?

December 1st, 2010

Joe has often wondered whether Pat Yasinskas watches all the NFC South football games in his role as NFC South beat writer for ESPN.com.

Hey, it’s a tough job. The guy might have to watch up to four football games a week and write about them and other stuff.

Talking Bucs today on The Fabulous Sports Babe Show on 1040 AM, Yasinskas didn’t sound impressed by Cody Grimm.

“I don’t know that he’s a long term starter, at the very least a nice role player. This team has to go out and draft two safeties in the offseason,” Yasinskas said.

Joe’s not sure how Grimm didn’t look like starter material in his nine starts. What is Yasinskas watching? Is he watching?

Or what is he hearing about Grimm at One Buc Palace?

Yasinskas said he was at One Buc Palace today sniffing around. Among the more depressing scents he picked up was one about the expected attendance Sunday for the huge Falcons-Bucs game.

“From what I’m hearing I wouldn’t expect to see more than 50,000 in that stadium,” he said. “50[K] is tops, more likely upper 40s.”

    50, 000 or 5,000 – just win.

  2. d-money Says:

First of all Pat Yasinskas is a douche who almost never has anything good to say about the Bucs. Which isn’t surprising since he used to be a beat writer for the Bucs and hating the Bucs seems to be a pre-requisite for that job.

Second of all What’s the deal with The Fabulous Sports Babe? Is it just me or is listening to her show like listening to fingenails on a chalkboard. I don’t know i’ve never seen her so she may be a babe but she is definately not fabulous.

I guess she’s great if you’re a Yankees fan. But she seems to hate all the local teams as well.

  3. big007hed Says:

Vacation Man has AWFUL coverage of the Bucs unless they are playing against his favorites, the Saints and Falcons, it isnt even close….. He reports hours after everyone else and outside of Freeman never has anything good to say in regards to Bucs players….. He is a supreme douche

  4. lightningbuc Says:

    d-money,

She is NOT a babe. But she fought cancer and won.

  5. Hire Greg Olson! Says:

    @d-money

She is neither a babe, nor fabulous…

  6. jaytek74 Says:

Well I for one wish Grimm was still our starter. What a painful game…a loss plus injuries. I hope this week goes better.

  7. Hire Greg Olson! Says:

If Grimm doesn’t go down, especially that early in the game, I think we would’ve won that game. There’s no way they would’ve scored 14 points in 2:30 minutes if The Mighty Cody Grimm was in the game. They might have driven down and scored one TD, but no way 2.

  8. Travis Says:

Grimm is certainly most definatly our long term starter. he would make an excellent SS. Now its up to Tanard if he is going to turn his life around like Ricky Williams did and put down the pot, or leave the game of football for good.

I love the idea of Grimm and Tjax as our 2 safteys, but its up to Tjax to fix his issues.

  9. Bucfan66 Says:

Ronde was on Jim Rome today. When asked who impressed him the most on this defense, in terms of football IQ and dynamic ability, his answer was Aqib Talib and Cody Grimm.

That’s some pretty strong praise especially with Grimm being in the same conversation as Talib. I can’t wait to see this kid come back stronger next year and be one of our starting safeties.

I just wish he was a couple inches taller 🙂

  10. Pete Dutcher Says:

Man…that’s it…I’m going over there to yell at Yasinskas on his comments. He is getting paid to do a job he isn’t even doing.

  11. Buc You Says:

Pat is talking future. The Bucs most certainly should draft safeties, as well as LBs, DEs and olinemen.

To say Grimm is a lock for safety is being purely irresponsible to the always getting better mentality that this team deserves.

I doubt Mark D is resting on Grimm as being the future at safety.

  12. jvato24 Says:

Buc You .. I wouldnt be so sure Dominik isnt looking for Grimm to be a starter around here … I have only heard a few Intvws with Dominik since the draft and am pretty sure I heard the name Grimm come up more than once and early in the convo.

  13. christopher Says:

I believe Grimm is the starter @ SS next year, & is starting material there. He *might* be a fringe starter @ FS due to speed. Either way, glad we finally have Lynch Jr. @ SS, if not for the hitting, @ least for the sure tackling.

  14. Hunter Says:

    Piscitelli claimed by Browns….lol

  15. oar Says:

    Hire,
“There’s no way they would’ve scored 14 points in 2:30 minutes if The Mighty Cody Grimm was in the game. They might have driven down and scored one TD, but no way 2.”
That’s one hell of an answer from rubbing a magic 8-ball! LOL!

  16. oar Says:

We once had a Booger, we traded for a Goat. But, soon came the Grimm realization that, that goat was cheese!

  17. CanadaBuc Says:

Just wondering if the game will still be blacked out this weekend.
I thought it was in a primetime slot for network tv.
As for Cody Grimm, he played well after that game against Pitts. Lets give Lynch a try ….He might be another diamond in the rough. He sure looked good in pre-season and has had time to absorb the defensive scheme.

  18. Buc You Says:

    Gruden to Miami?????

  19. safety Says:

    Sabby to the Browns!
Fans up there don’t seem too thrilled (at least on the Plain Dealer site). Seems like they don’t want another DB who misses tackles and blows assignments…

  20. New Era Buc Says:

    Buc you to Mami???

  21. Buc You Says:

    not gonna happen

  22. Patrick Says:

I think the Glazers are being mean to the fans by not buying tickets for Sunday’s game. THEY’RE BILLIONAIRES! They can afford it! I mean, they bought ALL of the home games last season during a miserable year and they can’t buy JUST ONE game during a season where things are much better around One Buc Place? A game where we’re wearing the throwbacks, honoring McKay, and battling the Falcons a HUGE NFC South showdown! My god, people just want to watch their team Mr. Glazer. Such a basic thing.

Malcolm Glazers net worth: $2.4 Billion.

  23. Patrick Says:

    2.2 Billion

  24. Buc You Says:

They need the blackouts for the CBA negotiations.

  25. gotbbucs Says:

the only reason to read anything by yasinskas is for comic relief. he hasnt got a clue.

  26. JDouble Says:

Barber and Grimm have been our best defensive players this year. Pat is clueless as usual.

  27. BamBamBuc Says:

Patrick: “I think the Glazers are being mean to the fans by not buying tickets for Sunday’s game. THEY’RE BILLIONAIRES! ”

REALLY??? Wow… I’m gonna have to use that at WalMart…. I’m gonna march right in there and tell them how MEAN they are for not buying my Christmas gifts for me…. after all, THEY’RE BILLIONAIRES!!!!

Seriously, it’s a business. The Glazers own the team and pays the players (not the fans), the team plays games and the fans buy tickets. That’s how it works. If the owners pay the players AND buy the tickets, what’s the point of owning a team?

  28. SkookumSmitty Says:

Oar: Sort of off topic, but I think “Booger McFarland” is one of the all time great football NAMES.

How can you NOT love a team with a player named “Booger”??

  29. GrimesINT Says:

Going to be turned into Falcon field on Sunday! We get to test out an outdoor home stadium thanks to Sucs fans not supporting their team… This is great! GOOOOOO FALCONS!

  30. Bucnjim Says:

I’ve been to Atlanta to see the Bucs Falcons games. It’s more like a tea party than a football game. They’re worried more about their social status then what is really going on in the game. Come on down to Tampa so we can send you home crying like the little B!tches you are.

  31. oar Says:

    skoomkum,
I’d have to agree! It’s too bad, he just didn’t stay healthy or play to expectations after Sapp.
BTW glad someome realized who I was talking about, in my poor attempt at humor!

  32. jvato24 Says:

Grimm is no starter … And Derrick Ward played well against the Dolphins in the preseason … AWESOME WORK YAK

  33. Dave Says:

    Patrick

Don’t blame the Glazers. If 10,000 – 15,000 tickets are needed, I do not expect them to shell out a million just so me and you can sit at home with a beer and watch the game.

I blame the NFL. I think the blackout rule is ridiculous and does nothing except force people to start watching other teams, thus diminishing the fan base in the long run.

In this economy, especially in Florida where every single major team (pro & college) are having trouble seeling out, they should have lifted the blackouts.

Did you know that 10% of ALL NFL games have bee blacked out this year?

  34. Dave Says:

Grimm: I’m still not sure if he is a long term answer either. Seems he needs to add weight & muscle. He is a good hitter though. He isn’t the fastest which hurts in coverage, but he is a smart player. So who knows…

I don’t know anything about the rookie on the roster. I do know that Asante (the kid from Nebraska that just signed) is a converted LB and a hard hitting, run stuffing big safety. Probably needs work in coverage.

I am curious as to how much contact there is with Tanard Jackson and if they are optimistic about a return next year or if they are writing him off.

  35. jvato24 Says:

Grimm will always be knocked for too small .. to skinny .. Doesnt look big enough .. But put on the tape .. He is a Damn Monster … One of the most aggressive players to the ball I have seen since the days of Lynch …

No im not saying he is Lynch .. Just that he some Lynch in him

Also I see some comments about him being too slow and not good in coverage .. Where in the last 6 games has he been roasted or burned ?

  36. gitarlvr Says:

Grimm is a starter. If you haven’t seen that yet then your blind. If Grimm is not a starter then I guess everyone else on the D can take a seat too because Grimm has played as well or better then anyone on this defense. Why are we even discussing what Pat Yasinskas says? It’s already been established that he throws opinions out there sometimes with only the most cursory knowledge of whats going on with a given team in a given situation.
