McCoy Dropped An Important Deuce

November 29th, 2010

Gerald McCoy must really be feelin’ it right now after recording two manly sacks against the Ravens yesterday.

That soaring confidence is only going to make him a better player.

McCoy started the season thinking that he could get the job done but was thinking too much, then he progressed to believing he could play more instinctively and be a force soon, then last week he got his breakthrough sack and now his confidence must be sky high after yesterday.

McCoy’s got three sacks on the season and two forced fumbles. For those keeping score at home, Ndamukong Suh has eight sacks and no forced fumbles.

Joe’s been impressed watching replays of games and seeing evidence of McCoy’s strength and the seemingly improved use of his hands.

The guy plays every snap and at 22 years old he’s only going to get stronger and smarter. Joe suspects McCoy’s going to finish the season very strong.

For all the Haters comparing him to Sapp and calling him a bust. He now has as many sacks and tackles as Sapp in his rookie year so STFU.

This guy is going to be a beast.

And speaking of Suh goes he is definatley a beast in the pass run but he can’t stop the run for doo doo.

(that previously said S@#t but I guess JBF blocks the S word)

Joe…probably the best title youve come up with…I’m still laughing!

  5. Brandon Says:

    Agreed. Nice title choice, brother.

  6. d-money Says:

    Got it Joe.

Also i Agree with the others, hilarious title.

Still not better than “Batch Slapped” after the steelers game. That one still makes me laugh.

  7. Pete Dutcher Says:

I still think in the long run McCoy will be better than Suh…and McCoy will have more Championship Rings as well.

    Dude, BEST. HEADLINE. EVER.

I was having flashbacks of Carmella Garcia’s husband with his towel story.

we know you love mccoy. however, detroit is 24 in run d, your mccoy led bucs d-line is 27th.

mccoy now has 27 total tackles and 3 sacks. suh has 45 tackles and 8 sacks.

arguably, suh has 10 out of 11 excellent games, and mccoy 2 or 3 out of 11 good games.

there is no comparing these two. suh will get defensive mvp consideration and will be unanimous ROY. mccoy might get bucs d-line mvp, might.

still 5 games to go but suh should have 12-14 sacks and 70+ tackles. last year, some idiots were arguing that 30 tackles and 3 sacks was a great year for a rookie DT speaking about roy miller. well what is 75 tackles and 13 sacks then?

No doubt that suh is a hall of fame quality player, what mccoy is, we will find out. Just be glad that suh was gone when the bucs picked b/c if he wasnt and they passed over him it would have been embarrassing.

Agreed, I just dropped one myself, a real hideous massive.

  12. BigMacAttack Says:

I have to say, we’re a real classy bunch, almost as classy as Beavis and Butthead. Funny how no chick in the free world would understand or think it’s funny. Mars & Venus baby. Go GMC!!! GO BUCS!!!

  13. RustyRhino Says:

I can not wait for next years draft so we can stop hearing about how bad we have it with McCoy as our Rookie DT instead of Suh, I recall Sh having a bad knee that will not like long term play on artificial turf, he is a good player sure is but to keep harping on how good he is compared to McCoy is simple minded.
The Lions D-line is much better than our D-line they have some good players at DE and players who play & fit in their system well. Not saying that we don’t have good players on our D-line but not like the Lions do.
Lets see their totals in 4 years then compare notes shall we? i am thinking it will be close and both players will be about even. Time will tell.
McCoy! great game I liked seeing you beat two linemen and get a sack, YEAH!!!!!

  14. Posey99 Says:

How come i never hear anyone talk about Suh and McCoys age diffrence and experience? Im not making excuses for mccoy, suh is a beast, but mccoy is younger and less experienced.

  15. Culverhouse Blazer 808 Says:

@ Rusty Rhino, he has two bad knees actually.

@ thomas 2.1 I hope your Lions’ season improves. There’s always next year.

  16. CreamsiclePasties Says:

thomas 2.1: suh will get defensive mvp consideration

    That’s just asinine

  17. Eric S Says:

I think McCoy will be a very good player. He has a good work ethic and good technique. I will never get the point of putting down Suh, while propping up McCoy. Can’t both guys be great players. It is so silly. Suh has had a much better season than McCoy. It doesn’t mean it will continue or that McCoy won’t some day match Suh’s production.

Creamsicle-Jason Taylor won it in ’06 (Nick Satan’s last year) on a 6-10 Dolphins team. Michael Strahan won it in ’01 on a 7-9 team. Cortez Kennedy won it in ’92 on a 2-14 team. In ’87, Reggie White won it on a 7-8 team for the Eagles. So yes it is possible that Suh could win the award even with a losing record. Of course it usually doesn’t happen, but it isn’t out of the question. BTW the stats for Kennedy and Suh are similar. And the Seahawks weren’t world beaters on D. They were 17th in points allowed. So in essence, if your stats are great, voters can overlook the team performance.

After a couple orders of Bacon Cheddar Grits at Lee Roy’s, I drop some pretty notable deuces myself…

  19. BigMacAttack Says:

Cameron Wake of Miami is arguably a rookie and has better stats than Suh and better results as well. Just saying.

BTW, Bench Greg Olson….for the first quarter

  20. BigMacAttack Says:

…and Joe really knows his $h!t.

  21. Pete 422 Says:

    Gosh, such intellectual conversation, lol.

I can just imagine what this team will be like in the years to come with this talent. I’ve heard comparisons to the building of the Cowboys of the ’90s and I can see that.

Even in these last 5 games with the D-line coming on, I can see us blowing out a few of these teams (and no the “blowing out” term is not in reference to some of the other posts).

  22. Eric S Says:

Wake isn’t really close to being a rookie. He played in the CFL for 2 seasons. This is his 2nd season in the NFL. Suh’s stats are comparable to Wake. Suh has more tackles, while Wake has a few more sacks. Wake has batted more passes down and forced more fumbles. Suh on the other hand has more fumble recoveries, interceptions and touchdowns. Both players are having great seasons. I could see Wake getting more votes than Suh just because Miami has a better record than Detroit. The frontrunner is probably Clay Matthews Jr though. But I definitely could see Suh getting some votes and it isn’t out of reason for him to get them.

  23. D-Rome Says:

Interesting title. I was afraid to click on the link because I was worried this had more to do with his bathroom habits than his on the field play. Don’t get me wrong…I hope he’s regular and all but I was relieved (no pun intended) to see this post is about his play.

    =================================================

Wow, you wanna bet that a guy with two knee surgeries is a hall of famer?? Suh’s great and all, but he’s also playing between 20 years of experience. If the picks were reversed and we got Suh a pick ahead of Detroit getting McCoy, Mccoy could definitely be the one with the better stats. That being said, even in that scenario, McCoy’s numbers probably wouldn’t be as high as Suh’s numbers are now.

But hey, what combination would you rather have:

    Freeman/McCoy/Blount or Stafford/Suh/Best???

I’m pretty satisfied with our young group.

  25. d-money Says:

Thomas 2.1 once again you show you don’t know what you’re talking about.

I wasn’t comparing Suh and Mcckoy i was just pointing out that Suh has things that he needs to work on as well before he gets his bust in the HOF. My comparison was to Sapps rookie year.

    But since you mention it…

You know what the differnce between the 24th and 27th ranked rushing defense is? Do ya, do ya?

42 yards…42 yards over 11 games thats less than 4 yards difference a game…wow you’re right they are much better at run defense.

Suhs Lions with the 24th ranked run defense and 4 yards less a game are 2-9
He also has 8 sacks yet his team has only the 18th ranked pass defense.

McCoys Bucs with the 27th ranked run defense are 7-4
He has only three sacks yet his team has the 9th ranked pass defense.

    Advantage McCoy

  26. HIRE GREG OLSON! Says:

Thomas, what’s the point of trashing McCoy? Even if McCoy turns out to be 3/4 the player that Suh is, that could still be a hell of a career. The Bucs had no shot at Suh. It’s not like they took McCoy over Suh. So why beat this dead horse??

What exactly should the Bucs’ front office have done? They didn’t have the luxury of inheriting a bunch of top ten picks from the last 5 years like Detroit and St. Louis. Some people are just so dead set against the new regime that they’ve missed the forest through the trees.

Detroit and St. Louis fans wish they could’ve only spent 1 year in the basement during their rebuild (hell, Detroit still only has 2 wins). If the Bucs played in the Rams’ division, they’d have all but clinched the playoffs by now.

  27. Capt.Tim Says:

With an article titled drooping a deuce, you just knew that Thomas would leave us another steaming pile of his inner most thoughts! He takes pathetic to a whole new level, so bad that you actually start feeling guilty for laughing at him!(but I still do!)

  28. Capt.Tim Says:

Detroit-2 wins, Draft Suh, sign a butt load of FAs= still 2 wins. Bucs-3 wins, Draft McCoy, no real FAs= 7 wins! Huge win McCoy. Great players improve the team. Period. Detriot is putting Suh in every favorable posistion they can, to try to look like they got ” the Right Guy”. But they still suck just as bad as before they drafted him. Only impact to the TEAM has been to increase payroll, and have another high draft pick sitting in a losers locker room! Way to see mud, Thomas the town fool!!

  29. gitarlvr Says:

Thomas 2.1 never knows what he is talking about. McCoy could end up being better than Suh. Just because he took longer to hit his stride means nothing. The fact is he is hitting his stride and now has a multi-sack game in his rookie season. All this really shows is that Suh fulfilled his potential a little bit faster. These guys are two different players. Suh has great power but McCoy has better get off as one gap penetrator. Interesting article I found on a site called pro football focus.

    http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2010/11/11/stories-of-the-season-ndamukong-suh/

It basically says that when he’s not getting sacks he’s busy kinda sucking.

  30. gitarlvr Says:

This is what people meant during the lead up to the draft when they said Suh is production- McCoy is disruption. Basically meaning that Suh is a better finisher but McCoy is more consistent at getting pressures. Suh may have more sacks than McCoy at this point but he also has played more snaps than any DT in the league. So he has had more rushing opportunities. Suh only ranks 20th among DT in terms of getting pressures. And getting alot of pressures is just as important as getting alot of sacks. Pressures lead to interceptions. PFF has McCoy ranked #8 one spot ahead of Suh in their ROY rankings saying that while he hasnt made as many big plays he has been more consistent than Suh.

  31. Pete Dutcher Says:

Thomas…simply put…Suh will end up having hte better rookie season.

That said…I believe McCoy will end up having the better career and the most Championship Rings.

McCoy may end up with 5-6 sack on the year this year…but bare in mind he’s doing it with a team that may have a brighter future than Suh’s team, but with a halfway rebuilt defensive line.

When we get the right DEs in there and finish up pluging our defense this off season, our team will be devastating on the field…whereas the Lions will still be battling for the number 1 pick next year.
