Don’t Underestimate Troy Smith

November 21st, 2010

Derek “Old School” Fournier of WhatTheBuc.net has his weekly breakdown of the Bucs game. He does some solid research and, among other things in this video, he seems impressed with 49ers quarterback Troy Smith’s smarts.

    Thanks for your breakdown, Derek.

Again, I see this game coming down to a couple things. First, turnovers. If we can win the turnover battle, we win the game. Turnovers can cause huge swings in scores, and with a lead, we eliminate Gore as the major threat he is. I believe Smith will be more prone to throwing the INT than Freeman, and think we win this battle. Second, penalties. This is pretty even here. Both teams are committing stupid drive-killing penalties. San Fran has a new LT in this week which won’t help their cause, as you stated their D likes to jump the snap. Our line has now been together a few weeks, and should improve. Again, if we don’t kill ourselves with stupid penalties we should come out on top. Third, ability to score quickly. I say this one because it will be important to match point for point with the 49ers until the turnovers or penalties kick in. Not only that, but a team capable of scoring quickly has the ability to come back in the 4th. The Bucs have the edge here too. This is why I see the Bucs winning this game. Statistically, the teams are quite close, but in three somewhat obscure areas, we have the ability to take this game.

Another Great job there, “Old School!” I think we should bear the 49’s pretty easily. Almost think this is the game for our offensive breakout! But don’t really care if we win or lose. Just want rookies to improve. More worried about drafting that franchise DE ‘

For those who don’t know who Troy Smith is, read.

Troy Smith (born July 20, 1984 in Cleveland, Ohio) is the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL Draft. He played college football at Ohio State.

Smith won the 2006 Heisman Trophy, his senior year with the Buckeyes. He took 86.7% of the first place votes, a record that stands today.

He was a great player in College, and everyone from Michigan hates him (me too)
Both Tampa and Frisco played close games with the Rams, and won. This game may be a nail biter, but I still see Tampa pulling it out.
Great breakdown as usual Derek, thank you!

Thanks for the kind words guys. The defense showed up well today. Now we get another “Prove it” game in Baltimore. As a fan, you have got to be excited with what we have done without a single 60 minute stretch of our best football! Go Bucs!
