Called Shot
November 15th, 2010There was Babe Ruth’s called shot. There was Deion Sanders’ called shot (Joe knows a guy who was on the field for Clemson on that very play).
Now add Cadillac Williams to the list.
With the Bucs looking to finish off the Panthers late in the game yesterday, Williams told the Bucs offensive huddle he would score if he got the ball, reports Woody Cummings of the Tampa Tribune.
So what happened? Williams got his touch and rambled in from 45 yards out. Ballgame.
“And he pretty much called his shot there,” said tight end John Gilmore, who got the offense rolling by catching the first of quarterback Josh Freeman’s 24 passes and covering 29 yards with it to set up the Bucs’ first score.
“We were in the huddle there and we called the play and Cadillac just said, ‘You guys get out of my way because I’m going to score on this.’ And that’s exactly what he did. That was absolutely Babe Ruth-like.”If the Bucs have a Babe Ruth in their midst, it’s Freeman. He’s their home run hitter and he hit one Sunday, throwing 20 yards down the middle of the field against a blitz to hook up with Winslow on his late first-half touchdown.”
Way cool story but perhaps the Bucs have found the right way to use Cadillac other than blocking. There was a two-play sequence early in the game when the Panthers had a clean shot at Bucs quarterback Josh Freeman’s blind side but at the last moment on both plays, Williams picked up the rush and kept Freeman’s jersey clean and ribs intact.
Maybe Williams can again become the closer for the Bucs?

“Maybe Williams can again become the closer for the Bucs?”
This right here is why I didn’t cheer when Caddie got his big run at the end. It was a fluke. Caddie still sucks and should be nothing more than a 3rd down back catching passes and blocking…but now he’ll get more carries and be more involved because of one fluke run.
We saw on Sunday who our running back is. The 250lbs guy that jumped from the 5 yard line, did a spinning matrix move and scored a TD, and had 3 other highlight reel runs. Caddie should be an afterthought, but now we’ll get to see him get 10 carries a game again because he had one fluke run and people have short memories.

Maybe the Panthers just stink?

I’ve always been under the impression that Caddy got better as the game went onward.
However in the last game Blount was the early weapon battering his way into the 3rd quarter.
Then Caddy shined in the 4th quarter.
Did Blount wear down the Panthers? Was Caddy’s style that much different than LeGarrett’s?
Or did the Panthers just give up?

We just need a young stud RB to pair with Blount next year. Someone that can do what Caddie did yesterday week in and week out. Instead of averaging 1.5 yards per carry and then having one fluke run.
Just for kicks I was looking at rookie stas over at NFL.com…Blount is officially the best rookie RB. He is in the top three in every catagory and #1 in most of them. What a steal. I am so happy he found his way to the Bucs. I was crushed when he was still available in the 7th round and we passed, but I guess it was fate.

What I’m wondering is this:
Are we seeing the 2010 version of WD40? Remember Allstot pounding and Dunn slicing and dicing?
I love the story of Caddy. I love how he sacrifices himself to protect Freeman BUT
I love Blounts grinding the ball and moving the chains plus I get a LOT more fantasy football points with LeGarrett!

I t looks like Derrick Ward got his wish and got on a team that can’t cover and can’t even stop a 50 yard hail mary play. Pssh, this guy is a destined loser because of his attitude and ego.
I am excited for the Bucs and we are doing this with a sorry defense! Blount’s story in itself is inspiring and his attitude of score at all cost is excellent; we needed that strike first personality in the running game. This also seems to be helping the O-Line play with more confidence. I still would like more thump at LG but the depth and efficiency is there. Go get the 9ers Bucs and get some pass rush. They are going to try to run the ball down our throat.

I think it’s perfect. Three quarters of Blount pounding them, with Caddy in on 3rd downs and passing situations. In the fourth, give Blount a breather, and let Caddy clean up.

Hey JDufus .. Can you bag the draft talk for now .. We are 6-3 and who gives a Damn about the Draft .. I am thinking now and will worry about next year after the season .. That was a sick run by Caddy .. With Blount running the ball Hard, Caddy may have a good chance to get bigger runs .. There has to be some change of pace as most of Blounts yards were in the 1st quarter
Why cant you just be happy for the Man who closed out a game for us against the team he was originally injured against .. Your draft “youtube” Armchair GM talk 24/7 gets old

“Hey guys I know i’m averaging 1 yard per carry but I’m going to break off a 45 yarder right here to seal the game.”
I love Caddy but I bet he says that in the huddle before every play.

Bite me jvato. One run doesn’t change the last five years. Hate on me all you want for not jumping on the caddie bandwagon this week…but you and everyone else will be screaming caddie sucks again next week.

Im not on the Caddie bandwagon .. The fact is he has averaged about 2.5 ypc this year .. But to not be happy when the Bucs Seal the deal against the Panthers with Caddy or any RB is lame ..
The Panthers have tortured us over the years .. It was sweet to see Caddy get some redemption ..
