Mike Williams Has No Shot At Rookie Of The Year

One the main reasons for the Bucs’ upswing this season has been the lights out play of Bucs rookie receiver Mike Williams.
Some suggest Williams is a leading candidate for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, and Joe certainly cannot disagree.
But if Joe had to take an educated guess, that award will go to St. Louis quarterback Sam Bradford. Dude is getting it done and he has absolutely no one to throw the ball to. Guys off of the street. Glorified UFL receivers.
But hold on, says Peter King of Sports Illustrated. He Twittered this morning that, while he believes the award is Bradford’s to lose, King, if the season ended today, would vote for Pittsburgh offensive lineman Maurkice Pouncey.

@SI_PeterKing: Very little, because Bradford’s been so good. But MP’s my midseason OROY.
Joe never thought of Pouncey, but yeah, he’s playing well.
Would Joe like to see Williams get the award? Sure. But if the Bucs somehow make the playoffs, Joe’s guessing that Williams will instead be comforted by his playoff bonus.
Oh, and yesterday, Joe tried to post a video of Peter King talking about the top teams in the NFC this has him specifically mentioning the Bucs. For some reason the video is having issues but here’s a link to view it.

Mike’s stats do not look sexy at the moment. But by end of the season, if he has over 1000 yards, those numbers WILL catch attention of all the panelists.

Too soon to say. The award is on the whole body of work for the whole season and we are just now reaching the half way point. I say it’s still “up for grabs” (pun intended). I think the reason why it’s hard to predict the ROY at the half way point is because too many rookies never make it to the finish line of their rookie season due to meltdown or injury, especially if you are a QB or WR.

The Qb will always get it. Add to that the season Suh is putting together in Detroit and Williams has no shot unless he goes for 100 in 6 of the next 9 games and gets abut 8 more TDs

Personally I LOVE Williams – I think it was the Best draft move by the Bucs in the past 5 years.
HOWEVER,
I hope he doesn’t get ROY. WHY? It reminds me of the last Buc’s WR player to get ROY honors and what did that guy do AFTER that…speaking of which where in the world in Clayton?

@Dave: They give out offensive and defensive ROY so Mike won’t have to worry about Suh.
@Derf: Clayton actually didn’t win ROY. He mightve been 2nd or 3rd.

i’d love to see willims win the award but i also wouldnt mind adding another chip to his shoulder. i’m kind of enjoying his production while he’s trying to prove the rest of the league wrong. he certainly deserves the award though.

With more rookies on the Bucs playing than most other teams, it’s gonna be hard for any of them to win ROY. Who do you give it to? Blount? Williams? What if McCoy or Benn come on this last half year? Which rookie made the impact for the team? All of them? How can you say one of them is ROY? Bradford is THE ROY for the Rams, Suh is THE ROY for the Lions. The Bucs have multiple rookies contributing and will make it difficult for one of them to be selected.

Hopefully with the newfound explosiveness we saw last week Williams best games this season are still ahead of him. A few more 100 yard performances by Williams and a winning Bucs record and its going to be hard to give it to Sam Bradford if his team finishes with a losing record(which is more likely than the Bucs finishing with a losing record at this point IMHO).

Oh and Pouncey has no shot. O-lineman has never won rookie of the year and never will. Hell a tight end has never even won it, let alone a lineman.

I think that if Williams is the rookie with the most Rookie of the Week winnings, then he should be rookie of the year.
Period.
Because that would mean he was the best of his class more often in the season then anyone else.
