Matt Ryan’s Not Matt Ryan Against Bucs

The entertaining D. Orlando Ledbetter, of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, churned out a story that details Matt Ryan’s struggles against the Buccaneers.
In the four games, he has an average quarterback rating of 61.05 and has thrown six interceptions against two touchdowns. Tampa Bay has also sacked him six times.
“To me, it’s not a surprise that they are leading the league in interceptions,” Ryan said. … …
Ryan doesn’t think the Bucs have his number.
“These guys have been in that system for a long time. Ronde Barber specifically has been in it for a long time,” Ryan said. “He understands what he needs to do and is really good at it. I feel like we have a good feel for what they do.”
Joe doesn’t expect the Bucs to have some sort of defensive epiphany on Sunday. Joe expects Atlanta to say ‘open wide’ to the Bucs and run Michael Turner and Jason Snelling down their throats.
Turnovers, Josh Freeman and LeGarrette Blount are surely what will lead the Bucs to victory, if they win.

2 losses for Atlanta were the two games they were outgained on the ground. Ryan is smart but fairly predictable. He does a great job of looking off the safeties for a young QB but his patterns are pretty simple.
Penetrate on D to slow Turner/Snelling and then jump on the skinny post routes that he loves to throw opposite side and we can get this kid.

Heavy dose of Turner and Snelling will have our defense all screwed up. Then Ryan will start picking us apart. We’ll have to score around 30 points to win this game, but with the Falcons pass defense ranked 27th in the league…we actually could score that much if our offense is clicking this Sunday.
I think we match up well, but in the end the Falcons win because they have the 6th ranked run defense, and we have no run defense. In my mind that will be what kills us.

I just don’t think ATL is “all that”. There defense is pretty consistent, but they are nothing special.
Quite frankly, they are a lot like us; 5-2 but beatable.

They have the 11th ranked pass attack with the 5th best rushing attack….nah….nothing special. lol
You say thier defense is the consistant part, but thier defense is ranked 23rd, just two spots better than Tampa.

Tampa will win-and win big. Dirty Birds are a mediocre team, believing their own clips on ESPN and NFL network.
I expect Mike Smith to make a fool of himself trying to shove one of our players like he did last year. That guy is a two game suspension waiting to happen.

I feel that every week that goes by our chances get better, regardless of the opponent. With so many young players, they are learning and improving. Erik Lorig at FB, 6-4 270 and smart, these new O-linemen with Lee the crusher, Blount, McCoy looks better, they all do. So every week I think the Bucs become more and more dangerous to opponents. Winning is great and this is not a must win, but it is like every other week a must improve and continue to grow. Mark Dominick has to be completely giddy with what he has done with this team.

They beat the Cardinals, Browns and Bengals – as did we.
They lost to the Steelers – as did we.
They lost to the 4-3 Eagles, beat the 2-6 49ers, and beat the 5-3 Saints in OT.
Aside from their rankings you mentioned, tell me, what have they done that shows the league they are so good, a “team to beat”?
Speaking of all their stud stats, especially compared to ours, why aren’t they so much better or we so much worse?
The reality is we are both 5-2 and in the NFL it’s one or two individual matchups that can dictate the game regardless of how good a team is…that’s why the game has to be played.
My opinion is they just aren’t some dynamite team. They are good, yes, great, no.

They lost a tight defensive battle to the Steelers…..not a 25 point blow out. They beat the Saints who blerw us out by 25 also. They didn’t eek out 4th quarter wins over the team that we have both beat, they dominated them. You can twist stats or spin thier victories and try to talk them down, but the Falcons, Giants, and Saints are the best teams in the NFC. This is going to be a tough game.

Look CERTAIN stats are for losers. Wins and loses stats are at the top of the list and are the ones that REALLY count, but I think you can look at point diiferentials and/or scoring(offensive and defensive) rankings and get a good idea about teams.
Atlanta has a positive net point differential at 36 and is ranked 10th in offensive scoring and 10th in defensive scoring. The Bucs have a negative point diffential at -27 and we rank 20th in offensive scoring and 24th in defensive. Winning teams with a negative point differential, means they got waxed a few times and are probably overrated.
To say Atlanta isn’t a good team is probably more of a prejudice statment, cause we are Bucs fans. But, they are a good team and I think/hope we beat them. Go Bucs!

Matt “death by a thousand 10 yrd hook routes” Ryan is not a good QB. Dude is fantastically marginal and “Oldschool” is incorrect stating he is good at looking of defenders.
He is by far one of the worst at looking off defenders, everything is a 10yrd out or hook route to White. Ryan rarely presses the ball downfield because his noodle arm won’t let him. I hope as White said they try and throw the ball over the CB’s head because balloon ball Ryan wil get picked of all day. But that isn’t his MO, his MO is hook route, hook route, out route, out route all game long.
My concern is the pass rush, a robot QB like Ryan you have to pressure. The DT’s need to bring pressure up the middle forcing one of the many “throw aways” that the melting ice throws in a game.

Alanta is a good team especially at home they are even tougher. I dont see us winning this game…just being realistic.
We will need to get our run game going fast and hard..pound the sh*t out of that rock to keep them up close to the line. Then bust a nice couple shots to either Mike or Arelius. This will come down a couple of plays by either team.
Or we will just get destryoed again. Just keepin’ it real!

I think it’s possible for the bucs to win… I just think that The falcons will have over 200 yards rushing and about 30 points…we’ll have to have a big day on offense to compete.

A win would be really nice but, looking at it from the other side, this is one of the games we are supposed to lose. If you’d sat down at the beginning of the season and picked ten games we were going to win and six we were going to lose – this would have been one of the losses. So I hope we win, and I think we’ve got a real chance, but I’m not going to be too upset if we don’t . . . . after all, it’s a game we’re supposed to lose.

JDouble, I am with you.
I am skeptical…We had two BAD losses. The Steelers game was never close. Fourth quarter heroics are great, but until this team proves it can keep a lead or even stay close against other very good teams, I will remain cautious. The two pick sixes (like the great Bucs teams of old) went a looooong way toward the Bucs last win. More of that, or we lose to Atlanta.
Would love to see the Bucs win, and am confident they CAN. All the tools are there. A win Sunday would go a long way toward convincing me that they can win on ANY Sunday this season.

Ryan is a good QB. He does have the arm to go downfield. He hasn’t done so as much because they are having a ton of success just dinking and dunking and running first. I find it hilarious that some people are talking about Ryan as if the Bucs will have no more trouble with him than they did with Hall\Anderson. This guy is good. He hasn’t had a huge game against the Bucs yet(knock on wood) but he will someday. Its inevitable. Besides the Falcons ran all over the Bucs with slow Jason Snelling last year. Its going to be a nightmare stopping their rushing attack with Turner now fully healthy and Snelling still their to spell him. I agree with Joe. The Bucs will need to be every bit as good on offense as they were last week or this is a guaranteed loss. This is not the team that is going to make the Bucs D look good.

OAR is right on this one. The Bucs are a bit of a wild card though, since we recently found a running game, the stats may be skewed.
