Josh Freeman: Winner
October 25th, 2010In his weekly wrapup of Sunday’s NFL games, Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports lists the day’s winners and losers.
Not surprisingly he has the Bucs as a winner but in particular, he cites Bucs quarterback Josh Freeman.
• Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman
Even at 4-2, the Bucs are a long way from being a good team. That said, people can stop sleeping on Freeman. He’s not just a big arm and a bundle of athleticism. Watch the Buccaneers’ game-winning drive against St. Louis in the final seconds – Freeman was in total command. The guy is a leader, too. He’s going to be a big-time player.
As Joe wrote yesterday, he is very impressed with Freeman in the fourth quarter. So far, it’s almost as if you want the Bucs to trail in the fourth quarter and give Freeman the ball. That’s when he plays his best.
Crazy but true.

Off thesubject…but I saw where Michael Clayton joined the ranks of BUCSNORTH and signed with the Omaha Nighthawks yesterday.

People who see me here at JOE BUCS FAN and other unamed sites know I am fairly optimistic, yet realistic.
That said, here is a little pessimism.
I am looking at the schedule and am thinking “holy crap!!! they are going to win at least 8 games!!”
Sounds great BUT…. does it?
THey have ALOT of holes to fill and NEED good draft picks becasue we all know they are going to go out and sign a good free agent.
Assuming Blount works out at RB, at the very least they need DE, LG, RT, S, MLB, and still need a fast RB (can Huggins stay healthy?)
I guess the best thing to hope for right now is for Rpbert Quinn of UNC to keep falling in draft status because he is suspended this year. He is a beast and would be a steal in the middle of round 1 or round 2 if at all possible.

So Free is 7-8 for his career. Hard to believe as bad as this team has been, that he is 7-8. FIVE of those wins are fourth quarter comebacks. TWO of those loses are games that Freeman got us the lead in the final minutes of the 4th quarter, but the defense couldn’t stop the other team from driving right down the field and scoring. (Falcons, Dolphins)
So if our defense wasn’t so horribe, we could easily be talking about Freeman being 9-6 for his career with 7 fourth quaeter comebacks. Pretty crazy.

Dave,
I feel ya man, but I think avoiding the culture of losing in this young group of guys is much more important than picking 6th instead of 16th. These guys are learning how to be winners and never give up. Can you imagine if we were 0-6 right now? You think this young team would still be upbeat and positive?
I think this year, seeing development and progression is more important than our record at the end of the day, but wiining is definelty a big part of this team’s development.

Lol! Joe, absolutely right. No matter how badly this team plays all game, if we are within 6 points, have 4 minutes left, and Freeman has the ball- I believe we are gonna win. That’s the truest sign of a franchise Qb! I really believe this young man is gonna be the greatest QB in Buc history. He shows all the intangibles that you just can’t teach, but the the great QB’s possess! I’ve said it before, but we always have a chance to win if Freeman is playing! He is absolutely carrying this team right now, with help from Winslow and Mike Williams! Unbelievable that we are 4-2!

Where’s all the Josh Freeman doubters now???
This guy is my favorite.
[Sorry Snook. Old School’s a friend of Joe’s. No need to mock him for bagging on the Bucs for picking Freeman. Joe too was equally outraged as were many, many, many other Bucs fans, media types, football analysts, etc. And every one of us are happy we’re wrong… thus far. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves yet.]

But has Joe bought his Freeman jersey yet?
October 25th, 2010 at 10:03 am
When we got the ball with 4 whatever minutes left I had no doubt that they would win it.
I have been a Bucs fan for 25 years and I don’t ever remember a time when we had a QB that was so cool under pressure.
Man if we can get a running game going this will be exciting to watch.

Has Freeman made the Pro Bowl yet?
October 25th, 2010 at 10:27 am
When James Lee got that stupid penalty which put us in a 2nd and 23 on like our own 30, I was thinking noway. I’m thinking we have all these back up O-linemen and there is no way we pull this off. I was truly amazed.
October 25th, 2010 at 10:29 am
Freeman hasn’t made the pro bowl, but he could be MVP. Can you be MVP id your team finishes 7-9 or 8-8? I can’t think of any player that means more to his team than Freeman. He single handedly carries this team on his back every week. He is as important to this team as Manning is to the Colts.

No.

Just last night, I noticed the odd stat that in every game we’ve played this year, including loses against the Steelers and Drew Breesey, Freeman has the top passing yardage… and Williams often has the top receiving yards.
Those two are going to be a monster combo. Heck, they already are.

And great news! At the next Tampa home game, Josh Freeman will part Tampa bay, so that his remaining detractors can finally be convinced. If that proves insufficient, he will raise the Dead at the following Home game.” I’m telling you Josh, dis is a tough crowd!!”. It’s early, but his feats on the field seem pretty amazing to me so far!

I must admit, when I saw on NFL.com (I wasn’t able to see the game, sigh) that the Bucs had the ball with a few minutes left, I felt pretty confident that we would win.
