LeGarrette Blount Fans Should Get Their Wish
October 17th, 2010Bucs fans, with some merit, have been howling about the Bucs’ (lack of) running game.
Those howls may turn to shrieks this week as the flavor of the month, in these circles also known as the cure of the month, will be LeGarrette Blount.
The former Oregon stud who nearly missed a year for stupidly trying to take on a Boise State crowd by himself, and who was later cut by the Tennessee Titans, looks to be the focal point of Bucs fans in the coming days.
For months, over a year, the cure was Kareem Huggins, who left the game today with an ugly right knee injury. Joe doesn’t expect him to be back soon.
Then the cry was for Earnest Graham to move back to tailback. Today, Graham left in the first half with a hamstring injury, which is especially troublesome to running backs.
Now with the Bucs running backs’ depth paper-thin, Bucs fans will be screaming from every rooftop for LeGarrette Blount.
Before calling Joe’s good friend, “The Big Dog,” Steve Duemig of WDAE-AM tomorrow to plea for Blount to save the Bucs’ season, keep in mind this is a guy who was already cut by one NFL team and his second team in as many months. And the Bucs think so highly of him that he was inactive today.
If Blount truly is Ricky Williams dressed in Bucs’ clothing, ya’ think there may be a reason two separate coaching staffs saw fit to use Blount as little more than roster fodder?
Joe hopes Blount indeed becomes the next Williams and runs for thousands of yards. Joe, however, can’t get past the fact that Blount struggles to make it on an active roster on game day.

It’s because Huggins is Rah’s Hofstra boy. Now that his knee is cashed he can’t play favorites.

he was cut in titans bcuz they onlu use cris johnson, not many times they use a second RB, now if u ask me, blount with fresh legs is way better than carnell williams, so thats fine to me!!
October 17th, 2010 at 6:22 pm
This team will be much better once Carnell Williams and Barrett Ruud are no longer in pewter and burnt red…

You know Joe it’s not just Blount. I hear the other new guy has some moves too. Try both of them.
October 17th, 2010 at 6:23 pm
There really is nothing to say about Blount until it is revealed why he was inactive. But one thing is for sure Adrian Peterson wouldn’t help this team if they wont even attempt to run the ball on first downs as soon as they fall behind a score or two. Is it no longer customary to run on first down on a regular basis? When did I miss that change in the NFL?

Joe, didn’t you report on Fisher telling Raheem that they wanted to sign Blount if he could get through waivers? (I could be wrong)
Are you just making the point that fact is fact and if Blount was that great he’d have secured a roster spot? I can agree with that viewpoint. Often coaches will speak well of a player because of personal reasons (trying to help the guy out).

I don’t have high hopes, you could put any of the top 5 running backs in the league in our system and they would get blasted.
October 17th, 2010 at 6:43 pm
All great teams have 3 things. The QB, WR and RB. I think we have 2/3 of that, all we need is the RB. I doubt Blount is it, but give him a shot.

The tough thing here is we don’t really know if the lack of a rushing attack is Caddy’s fault or the O line’s fault. Caddy was doing fine last season and I don’t see how he can really be this worse of a running back just a year later.
Get Blount plenty of reps this week and make sure he’s ready for the Rams.
Also, we’ll probably have to get Pressley some reps at fullback now that Graham will likely miss next week. Maybe against the Rams we can get him some carries as well.
October 17th, 2010 at 7:37 pm
He ought to have the “core beliefs” down anytime now.
But we are on the right track. The Saints beat us 38-7 last year. Only 31-6 this year.
69-19 last two home games?
And the Glazer Boys wonder why no one goes to the games?

“keep in mind this is a guy who was already cut by one NFL team and his second team in as many months. And the Bucs think so highly of him that he was inactive today.”
1. Titans are full up at RB.
2. Not sold that this regime knows what the hell they are doing! They are regularly out coached.
What do they have to lose, 10 carries for 18 yds. ain’t cuttin’ it!

We’re paper thin at running back. I say they sign Larry Johnson for some depth right now until Huggins and Graham are healthy again.

I doubt Blount is the answer, but he and Lumpkin both will probably be active next week if Huggins and Graham are injured and out. I think the more interesting story today (and something that may be a positive from the game) is Erik Lorig in at FB. I was watching him specifically when he was in the game, and he was really putting a hit on some guys as a FB. I think he was blocking better than Davin Joseph today (not that that’s saying much). He has taken the DE mentality of “go out there and hit someone” to the offensive side, and I think it could really help.

Blount is a stud and Caddie sucks.
With Graham hurt and Kareem likely out for quite awhile (helmet to knee is not good) we have only Caddie and Blount. Sure wish we’d grabbed Keiland Williams while we had the chance.
October 17th, 2010 at 8:51 pm
Today Caddie average 1.6 YPC. He couldn’t juke a D-linemen out in open space, and he got stuffed by a DB. It’s not just the O-line folks. Caddie cannot make ANYTHING happen on his own.

When did Blount prove to be a stud?
October 17th, 2010 at 9:11 pm
Eric is back, that means Bucs are doing bad. What a moron, why don’t you get a life and just quit showing up on Bucs sites altogether Eric?

first caddy, then graham. looks like its time for a “win a legarrette blount jersey” sponsored post huh joe?
October 18th, 2010 at 12:51 am
Anybody heard who is this years “driving force of the team”.

Great move to inactive Blount so we can get Preston Parker on the field. To say our running game is in a shambles is an understatement but the first place you make changes is at the tailback position. Blount could absolutely do no worse and would at least break some tackles as Caddy seems completely unable to. Right now we need a back who can get something out of nothing and thats the kind of player Blount is. Caddy’s time has come and Raheem waited to long to make this move. Now if we can just get a new middle linebacker we might have some sort of shot of saving this season. PLEASE replace Barrett Rhud!!!!
