Adam Schefter: Trust Jason Licht

April 24th, 2025

Bucs are in good hands.

When it comes to the Bucs and this weekend’s draft, which begins tonight, Adam Schefter may have just as easily quoted Nick Saban.

“Trust the process.”

That’s basically what Schefter, the BSPN NFL insider guru, said to Bucs fans on his podcast this week, his last before the draft begins.

Schefter was asked to give a very brief synopsis of each team’s draft. He said Bucs fans have nothing to sweat about given Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht’s street cred.

“Nobody has drafted more players, and have succeeded [with those players] than I think the Bucs with GM Jason Licht,” Schefter said. “Under Licht, the Buccaneers lead the NFL, in total snaps, over 132,000, and games started almost 1,900 by players that they drafted themselves in rounds one through five.”

And the Bucs have been one of the NFL’s winningest teams this decade. One is very much tied to the other.

The Bucs drafted at No. 19 two years ago. They got Calijah Kancey. The Bucs drafted at No. 26 last year. Licht got Graham Barton.

Joe thinks Schefter is on point. Given Licht’s track record, it’s more likely he drafts another Tristan Wirfs or Kancey tonight than another Joe Tryon-Shoyinka.

The only draft I remember being ultra disappointed in recently was 2022. Badly wanted Nakobe Dean who ended up falling to round 3 anyway but we still didn’t take him. Instead traded down for Logan Hall and while we ended with a decent draft haul, I feel like that was a year that we left a lot of talent on the board. Obviously looking back at every draft you see horrible misses, but that was one I think got away from us at an important time.

That being said, that’s my biggest disappointment in recent years, so I will say I fully trust the process now. I might be disappointed tonight but the boy knows what he’s doing.

  2. Smarter than Joe Says:

Just don’t trust him drafting an Edge rusher, and please Jason DO NOT DRAFT A KICKER

Defense should be the focus, if it is not then it will be a long year. Can’t trust Todd to adjust his awful defensive scheme to stop the forward pass

  3. JTHV Says:

JTHV’s “No Matter What” Big Board:

    1. Edga-Rok-U
    1a. Starks
    1b. Jihaad
    1c. Jahdae

    1d. Trade Down

    1e. Egbuka
    1f. Amos
    1g. Amos

    1h. Trade Down again

  4. Simeon4HOF Says:

    In Gangsta Licht we trust

  5. fire bowles Says:

    Jihaad Please

  6. Larrd Says:

I am warming up to Starks or a corner, considering the depth at defensive line. There will be rotation guys there in the second round, for sure.

  7. PSL Bob Says:

Haven’t y’all been paying attention. Ronde says we’ll be drafting an edge rusher and WR at #19.

  8. BucsFan81 Says:

I want this guy. Put him next to Winfield and we will have one of the best safety duo in the league. South Carolina S Nick Emmanwori

  9. Truth be Told Says:

As long as the pick helps our Putrid Pass defense is some fashion I’m good.

  10. SenileSenior Says:

I can’t wait to see who we draft first. In Licht I trust!

  11. ocala Says:

He is a great GM. I do question the decision to keep the current head coach, but I do think Jason Licht is fantastic at talent evaluation.

  12. Josh Says:

    Thor Griffith

As long as the Bucs land Thor Griffith, I’m calling it a win. He’s the steal of the draft—versatile, powerful, and built to anchor the interior D-line for years. Line him up anywhere and he’ll make life hell for offenses. He can hold his ground at nose, but if you let him shoot gaps as a 3-tech, he’s got enough burst to wreck plays before they start. That kind of flexibility is gold in today’s NFL, especially with how much teams mix fronts.

If the Bucs do grab him, imagine pairing him with Vita Vea on early downs. Just a brick wall inside. Throw in some pass rush juice on passing downs and you’re cooking.

The rest? I’m vibing with depth pieces like Zah Frazier, Nick Martin, and Jackson Slater—tough, versatile, and smart football dudes. But really, this draft is all about Thor late for me. Get him in pewter and red, and I’m good. You guys can argue the first 3 rounds I’ll take 4-7.

  13. JTHV Says:

The premium instant impact pick here is Ezeiruaku and the same can be said for Jalen Ramsey Jr. Starks at SS and keeping Tykee at Nickel.

The long play is Jihaad Campbell due to health schedule.

I wouldn’t draft a CB in the 1st round wiht so many quality players available 2nd-4th.

    Happy Draft Day

  14. BucsBeast Says:

Just don’t draft A pass rusher.
His eye for Edge rushers is gas station sushi bad.

  15. Aqualung Says:

Finally, someone gets it. I’ll drink to that.

  16. Obvious Says:

Licht is one of the very best. Right up there with Roseman.

Regardless of what position he takes tonight I have all the confidence the player will have an impact. I would imagine that he’ll find an impact player one night 2 and day 3 as well.

It’s nice to know the FO knows what it’s doing in evaluating talent.

  17. HopeIn1Hand… Says:

I’m not sure I trust Licht and Co. to realize the best two-way player in this draft isn’t Bowfinger- it’s JJ Pegues! This is the best shot at landing a reliable connect for fat guy TDs he will ever see who might be a truly dynamic pass rushing weapon available in round 4 but that’s sort of whatever. I don’t just want the Bucs to score points to win games. I want to see the big fellas score points and win games! Petition the competition committee for a new rule: For every pound over 300 a touchdown scoring player weighs a point is added to the score board. Kick the XP, go for 2 or roll out the scale to midfield? Good thing Bowles has his new sabermetric game management guru to solve that conundrum.

  18. Teacherman Says:

    Jihad is JTS 2.0.

I’m sorry but he’s not a good hitter or tackler. He just has the body. No thanks.

I really hope we trade back.

We van afford to be patient with our first pick.

I hope we can trade back to around 23. Then trade back again to around 30.

Get as many 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks as possible.

  19. BuckyBuc Says:

    Matthew Golden

  20. Badbucs Says:

Amen Teachermman.we could revamp CB, DT, and get a WR and LB to boot with 2 or three extra 3s or 4s. That 1st could buy us a lot of prime beef. Few superstars in this draft.

  21. DunkinDFDubya Says:

Looking forward to Schefter and the rest of the click bait “insiders“ ruining the picks before they’re announced.

  22. Saskbucs Says:

@BucsBeast… Kancey is pretty good pass rusher. Licht hasn’t really used a high pick on an edge. Right now we are talking about Spence and JTS being busts. JTS was at least taking snaps and making the very odd play over 4 years. Much worse busts drafted in the 1st every year.

Anyway… all that to say… gas station sushi in Japan is pretty dang good.

  23. unbelievable Says:

I agree with the overall point, BUT, this year’s draft is weak.

So there’s a good chance that whoever we take at #19 is more of a 2nd round talent… just prepare yourself for that fact, fans.
