YaYa Diaby Plans To Pester Haason Reddick

April 22nd, 2025

Chance to play with Haason Reddick has YaYa Diaby smiling.

YaYa Diaby wants opponents to first think of how they are going to stop Calijah Kancey and himself, the way opponents once feared facing the Bucs defense with Simeon Rice and Warren Sapp.

YaYa is eager to get over the hump and become a top-shelf sack artist as a third-year edge rusher. He wants to use every resource available to find a way to get quarterbacks on the ground more often.

With the Bucs signing veteran Haason Reddick this spring, YaYa wants to be a pest to Reddick and absorb knowledge from one of the game’s better edge rushers.

“Just watching film on him previously, the guy can get to the quarterback,” YaYa said of Reddick. “That’s what I want to do… get to the quarterback.

“So, I’m just going to pick his brain and just get a little intel on what he sees and what he’s been coached his whole career and just feed off of that.”

It will help that one of Reddick’s first position coaches in Arizona, Larry Foote, has been moved by Bucs head coach Todd Bowles to take over the outside linebackers room.

Joe thinks YaYa’s sack total almost has to increase this year after just 4.5 last season. Stopping Vita Vea, Kancey, Reddick and YaYa… that’s just too many bodies to fend off. Teams cannot double up on all four.

And if the Bucs happen to draft a defensive tackle at No. 19, then look the hell out.

    Love it!

  2. Buc Fan in Phoenix Says:

Swell idea in theory BUT is Reddick the type that will share knowledge and be open to mentoring the younger players?

  3. Tim Says:

I’m hoping for Ezeraku or Pearce, Jr., but Walter Nolan would be good too, rotating him with Vea and Kancey.

“And if the Bucs happen to draft a defensive tackle at No. 19, then look the hell out.” One can dream. Let’s go Jason, beef up that line and watch your D get their swagger back. That same swag that’s been missing since the days of Dungy

  5. Razorramone Says:

The D line that won the Superbowl dripped with swag.

  6. Jeffrey Becker Says:

If Nolen’s gone, Joe, do you take Harmon? Too early to take Grant, right? I’m asking about a scenario where 2 or 3 of the top EDGES are still there (stewart, donovan E, etc)

  7. SB~LV Says:

😆 love the attitude but slow your roll on comparing yourselves to HOF players

  8. Aqualung Says:

The way to do it is to drop into coverage so often that when you do finally rush the passer, it catches the offense by total surprise.

Joe … ‘And if the Bucs happen to draft a defensive tackle at No. 19, then look the hell out.’

Logan Hall got left out of that discussion, and fans downplay his contributions, but he’s steadily improving. Last season his 5.5 sacks, 10 QB hits, 6 TFLs & 29 tackles in 539 def snaps (roughly 50%) were all career highs.

If Bucs do add a beastly DT/NT to rotate in with Vea, everyone will benefit. The interior pass rush should improve, and with it the effectiveness of our DEs like Hall & Kancey, as well as the effectiveness of our OLBs like Reddick, Diaby, Braswell & Nelson. One player like that could mean a world of difference to our defense (especially in terms of not having to blitz as much and being able to use less zone & more man-to-man coverage). He’d also potentially make a major difference in our 4th down stop statistics (19-for-30 by opponents … 63.3% success is atrocious, and led to a LOT of points allowed).

Haha. I was sitting here thinking the exact same thing while reading this, “Buc Fan In Phoenix.” And, a few other things. It rarely ever ‘works-out’ for these guys who do a lot of (empty, meaningless) ‘talkin’ like that… I mean, ALL the typical buzz-words were there. Just a buncha slogans we’ve all heard countless times, from literally, almost EVERY ‘marginal’ player that possesses elite ‘physical’ traits. So, yeah… We’ll see about all that. Sounds like a BUNCH of smoke to me. But, guess he has to say something?

  11. Aqualung Says:

I agree that Logan Hall improved considerably from his 2023 Oaf status.

    Kenneth. Grant.

    Or whoever Jason picks.

  12. Jmarkbuc Says:

Can’t sack the QB while dropping back in coverage.

  13. BillyBucco Says:

Im still waiting for what player DR is talking about.
    Love me some DT talk.

  14. Lord Cornelius Says:

I’m with DR on the idea of adding a big boy DT if we want to add one

  15. David Says:

I think the D-Line breaks out this year lead by Kancey and Reddick when it comes to getting to the QB.
I do not think they need to draft another DT so high because:
    1. That position is deep, can get one later.
    2. Hall is really good against the run and showing up recently against the pass.

The biggest wild card in this is SirV (or Jihaad) and LVD covering the short to mid level middle of the field. If opposing QBs get rid of the ball around 2.2 seconds or less because the middle of the field can’t be covered yet again, then the sack total will not improve.
