Shavon Revel And The Bucs

April 1st, 2025

East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel.

Look, Joe is good with any defensive position the Bucs want to draft at in the first round. Joe could make an argument for any position.

Defensive tackle, edge rusher/outside linebacker, inside linebacker, corner, safety. You pick, and Joe’s fine.

That’s the first round. What about the second round? Former NFL safety and current Chicago-area high school coach Matt Bowen of BSPN has what he believes is the perfect guy for the Bucs.

That would be East Carolina corner Shavon Revel.

Height: 6-2 | Weight: 194
College: East Carolina

Where Tampa Bay could get him: Pick No. 53

With his physical play style, Revel is a strong fit for the Bucs’ zone-heavy scheme under coach Todd Bowles. In 2024, Tampa played zone coverage on 71.7% of opponent dropbacks, the most in the NFL. Revel could use his great backfield vision to identify route concepts and break on the ball. Plus, he has the traits to disrupt and challenge wide receivers when the Bucs switch to more man coverage on third down. Revel missed time with a torn ACL in 2024, but he had two interceptions in three games.

Here again, like with Jihaad Campbell, you have to get heavy input from your medical staff. If the Bucs were to target this Revel in the second round, that obviously suggests the Bucs will o elsewhere in the first round. But where?

Also, Joe doesn’t think the Bucs would actually draft two dudes with medical question marks with their first two picks in the draft.

So maybe the Bucs would draft a defensive tackle at No. 19?

    shall we revel over shavon…?

  2. Defense Rules Says:

My guess is that the Bucs played so much zone last year because we blitzed a ton to compensate for our inconsistent pass rush. I’m convinced that we wouldn’t blitz nearly as much IF our Front-5 could get consistent pressure on opposing QBs.

Look at our blitzing last year (we blitzed 461 times according to Pro-Football-Reference).

    o DLine: 0
    o OLBs: 202
    o ILBs: 126
    o CBs: 13
    o Safeties: 120

Most consistent blitzers were LVD (80), Diaby (76), JTS (56) and Nelson (43). So primarily LVD & the OLBs. Develop a more consistent pass rush using our 3 DLinemen & our OLBs and we could probably blitz the CBs & Safeties less (as well as our ILBs). Maybe even play less zone & more man-to-man in the hopes of generating more interceptions?

I really like this kid! I hope we can snag him and another CB to be named later. No to safety BTW. Todd seems to want five safeties on the field at all times already.

    Go Bucs!

  4. BuckyBuc Says:

trade down and pick up a extra 3rd or 2nd, double dip on CB and move Tykee to SS opposite of AWJ. Pick up a solid edge defender there or DL and then linebacker as well. We will be GOOD

  5. Teacherman Says:

    Buckybuc

Exactly. Trade down for an extra 3rd.

Then later trade the 6th and 7th to move back into the 4th

  6. Ds Says:

The more I watch the ole miss DT and edge I’m intrigued

  7. geno711 Says:

Don’t see a trade down from 19 getting us an extra 2nd.

A small trade down from 19 to 23 or so, could get us a 4th and a 6th.

A larger trade down from 19 to the end of the 1st round probably could get a 3rd round pick.

But you never know if there is a key player that someone wants.

Maybe a bidding war — only 2 of Tennessee, Cleveland, and NY Giants, get a quarterback and Jaxson Dart is available and one of those teams wants to move up to 19 to get Dart. Offering their 2nd and 3rd and maybe next years, 2nd and 3rd round picks to get ahead of Pittsburgh. Then you go to Pittsburgh and get their best offer to move down just two picks to 21.

  8. Thomas Edrington Says:

He was our BEST player at ECU, but the knee injury took away his season, otherwise, would have been a fairly high first round pick.

Not sure he’ll last til 53

  9. catcard202 Says:

If the FO gets him in the 2nd rd, mark that down as a steal.

Revel is the real deal & would have likely been top 1-2 CB in this draft class if not injured early in ECU’s season.

There is more and more talk about some of the second tier QB’s going in rd1, like Jason Dart and Tyler Shough. That’s good news for the Bucs, pushing the defenders down from early rnd1 and creating some demand for our pick at 19. I still think there’s a good chance Licht will trade down into late rnd1 or early rnd2. If Licht does stay pat at 19, it’s got to be a defender who can start in game 1.

Revel is too big a risk for me with the blown ACL, and the level of competition at East Carolina. He is on track to be full go to start camp, but will he keep getting injured like Dean?

  11. 813BUCBOI Says:

    this kid looks good….

im with the trade back crowd…

    we’ve been developing players nicely….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  12. Aqualung Says:

If the Bucs play zone 71% of the time, the defense isn’t fixed. Need press man at crunch time. No more than a few yards of cushion. Please.

  13. MadMax Says:

Pretty sure he wont be there at 53….. but Jayden Higgins probably will. Then we work on a CB.

  14. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Aqualung

    On that we can agree.

  15. BucDawg Says:

No need for more broken toys on defense.

We do not have time to waste waiting for players to be healthy.

Go get a straight out of the box ready to play can’t miss player.

If we don’t go CB in round one, we get a non injured player also in round 1, and this kid falls to us, then yes take the chance.

Bowles will need all the help he can get in his Swiss Cheese scheme.

  16. SenileSenior Says:

If DT Kenneth Grant should fall to us at 19 would he be the best player available?

  17. Usfbucs Says:

Need to make sure he is recovered fully. Did he do the combine or a pro day?
