Kay Adams Thinks Jason Licht Needs More Love
March 26th, 2025
“Looking at you, Jason Licht.”
Some folks at One Buc Palace are just not all that comfortable being in the media spotlight.
They’re not bad or ornery. Not at all. It’s just not their bag.
Think of a Lavonte David-type wearing a suit in One Buc Palace. David is an awesome guy, he’s just not eager to stand in front of the klieglights of the Fourth Estate.
There are folks up the food chain at One Buc Palace like David. They’d much rather have the football team do their talking. But this is a double-edged sword. They can’t be content behind the walls of One Buc Palace and also wring their hands and kvetch why the franchise is often overlooked if not ignored by national media.
You know the old saying, “Squeaky wheel gets the grease.”
And here is a perfect example: Between late last week and next week’s NFL owners meetings is the first of two dead periods on the NFL media calendar. So in this lull, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht appeared on WDAE-AM 620. There, among other many things Joe wrote about, Licht discussed Chris Godwin and team culture.
Ever hungry for NFL news, the NFL content beast picked up on Licht’s comments and even Kay Adams of FanDuelTV talked about Licht in glowing terms yesterday.
(See how this works, guys?)
Adams raved about Licht and confessed she and others in the are derelict when it comes to discussing the Bucs.
“First-round playoff ends [the season], I get it,” Adams began. “Not the best taste in your mouth, I kind of get it. But they won a division title, people, despite playing without Mike Evans and without Chris Godwin for such a long stretch.
“Baker [Mayfield]? A dawg. Baker threw 41 touchdown passes in the middle of all that. Todd Bowles led this team to playoff appearances in not one, not two, but three seasons since Bruce Arians decided to hang it up.
“This culture, this organization, from top to bottom as a whole, they’ve made the playoffs five years in a row under Jason Licht. Can we give him his love, please? Longest streak in the NFC. I think only the Chiefs and Bills have longer [division title streaks] going across the entire league overall. So third best in the NFL.
“What do I always say? ‘Consistency is my most impressive trait with a player, a team,’ whatever. [The Bucs] are consistently at the peak. And that team is bringing back almost everybody back this year. … Haason Reddick, I think, I expect, I’m praying for a big bounce back from him.
“I’m looking forward to seeing what the draft brings for them.”
Yes, it’s great to be consistently good, but how about once in a while being great? The Bucs were in 2020. Time for another run of greatness while you still have Lavonte David, Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.
And Adams is right, the Bucs don’t get enough shine from the NFL community. When your GM makes appearances that the national NFL media picks up on, that certainly is a boost.
(If for some reason the video of Adams on Licht and the Bucs does not appear below, click here.)
Chris Godwin re-signing with the Bucs proves they’re locked in on building off of last year’s 1st place finish in the NFC South and their 5-straight playoff appearances. 😤@heykayadams | @Buccaneers pic.twitter.com/L2jB18eP4k

name one other NFL franchise that makes the playoffs 5 years in a row, with a coach that’s won 3 in a row, that fan base wants to get rid of the coach!! answer, you won’t. all because he had losing record at NY JETS? same fan base that wanted to drive off lovie smith, Raheem Morris, and now Bowles, but not a peep about Gruden or Koetter? look close enough Gooberville, it’ll hit you like a coloring book!

We need to win our primetime games next year. Small market, when you get a night game, win for a change. Don’t get beat at home in the wildcard round. Have one of the best records in the league so you don’t have to play wildcard weekend. Bucs have won division titles with .500 records, and we’re 1-2 in the playoffs. That’s why no one is talking Bucs.

Nick, some people see what they want to see and perhaps you too can say that of me. However, you didn’t mention Dungy, who is beloved in this community. I was thrilled at the hiring of Lovie but it became obvious that his success in Chicago was due to his initial coaching staff. He was a disaster as a head coach. Raheem was bright and charismatic but too much of a players’ coach. Why did it take so long for him to get another shot? I was sick of Gruden’s tactics by the time he left and never liked the way Kettering was promoted.
Todd Bowles? He gets little love on boards like this because he doesn’t play the game the way we fools want him to play. He’s not loud nor flamboyant and he doesn’t come from the sexy side of the ball but those who know, know. He’s a damn fine coach and an even better person AND he does have MANY fans.

If anyone out there in JBF land has the lovely Ms. Adams digits let her know that Lt Dan needs more love too!

“it’s great to be consistently good, but how about once in a while being great?”
Its pretty hard to be “great” in today’s NFL when your team is working through paying off massive debt every year.
The obvious reason for Bucs greatness in 2020 and 2021 was #12 along with the talent that followed him here – but the Bucs also went “all in” financially during that period and pushed almost $200M down the road…. and are STILL paying for it!
In 2020 when Brady first got here – the Bucs were in phenomenal shape fiscally – no debt whatsoever and no dead cap hits to contend with….
That is not the case coming into 2025. Paying off $33M in dead cap hits this year and already having kicked another $40M or so down the road with the resigning of Godwin and LD54 and Wirfs “redoing” his contract….
Licht already has well over $100M debt that’s on the books to contend with over the next 3-4 years….
If Jason had decided to go ‘all in’ again this year as suggested – the Bucs would indeed have a better shot at being “great’ and a better shot at winning another Super Bowl in this one year – but at what cost? The cost would be the Bucs NOT being able to compete for Super Bowls in 2026, 2027 and 2028 – which Licht fully expects our ‘window’ to continue being ‘open’ every year for at least the next few years….

Expectations are higher now. Division titles are nice, but fans want another SB. Maybe this will be the year for a decent defense ? Maybe this year Todd will quit making boneheaded mistakes? Maybe the Bucs can finally go deep in the playoffs?

Kay Adams….Wow!!! Put on her makeup…..fantastic.

Nick,
Bowles in-game decision making sucks.
And therefore we feel like our team has underachieved the past few seasons.
A better in-game decision-maker could’ve won a bunch more games than Bowles has since becoming HC here.
That’s why we complain about him.
March 26th, 2025 at 11:06 am
Hey, if Kay wants to give out her love, who are we to decline her offer?
March 26th, 2025 at 11:08 am
Beat it Nick Houllis.
You may be right about a couple people but it’s ignorant to paint all the Bowles detractors with the same brush. Uncalled for comment bringing race into the conversation.
Not everything is black and white.
I like Bowles for what he brings to the team but I think he makes too many mistakes, is too conservative and leads a league worst pass defence.
Koetter oversaw a much less talented team with a turnover machine at QB, otherwise his offense was ok. He had a white DC named Mike Smith that most of us were very hard on and wanted gone.
Lovie was terrible, using an obsolete system that got routinely shredded.
We all like Dungy and Bowles is basically in his shoes 25 years later, a good coach people like, but not quite enough juice to go all the way.
March 26th, 2025 at 11:11 am
Correct Erik.
He mentioned Koetter, pretty sure we all wanted Mike Smith ran outta town.
Pickgrin, what they have done this offseason is all in enough for me. Pushing a bit of cap with it going up every year is fine.
I take it from your comment that you are ok with this strategy of pushing towards the goal without completely blowing up the future cap?

You’re right babe

Where we are beats being consistently at the bottom.
Been there. Done That. Not a big fan.
And yes. The Marianas Trench is deep.

Keyshawn Johnson loved the spotlight but I doubt if anyone in Tampa would buy the bum a coke, let alone even a glass of water. Most media hogs are better off on other teams.

Nick Houllis couldn’t be more wrong and more typical of the modern day moron who thinks everything revolves around the hue of your epidermis and not the who of your character. I love Bowles and what he’s done and how he coaches but for a few game management issues and defensive question marks & I completely understand why people are sick of his coaching style but I think those people are wrong. It’s the content of the coach and his skills or attributes not the color of his skin bro. What a myopic way to look at it and a moronic thing to say.
March 26th, 2025 at 1:14 pm
I need more love.
March 26th, 2025 at 3:26 pm
@Esteban85 , Respect to Bowles for bringing in a clock management coach. He knows one of his weaknesses and is addressing it with a potential fix.
I expect the defense to be a bit different. Remarkably different. Maybe. Or perhaps, just a tad bit different.
