Bucs Re-Sign Cornerback Bryce Hall

March 18th, 2025

This is exciting on two fronts.

Bryce Hall will be a Buccaneers cornerback for the second consecutive season, per SiriusXM NFL Radio. Last year, he was a free agent signing by the Bucs (from the Jets) and dislocated his ankle in Week 1. That’s the same ugly injury Chris Godwin had.

So it seems the Bucs are confident Hall is healed or is healing just right and will be ready for this season. That makes Joe feel a little more comfortable about Godwin’s readiness.

Hall, 27, was once the Jets’ No. 1 corner in 2021 but stud the team adding Sauce Gardner and D.J. Reed knocked him out of their starting lineup. He’s got 26 career starts under his belt.

The re-signing of Hall is obviously very inexpensive. He was earning near the veteran minimum last year. Interestingly, the Bucs also signed young veteran cornerback Kindle Vildor last week. Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht is obviously loading up on experience.

Maybe this means the Bucs are more likely to draft a cornerback in Round 1 and launch Jamel Dean?

After all, Rondé Barber tipped a Bucs hand yesterday and cornerback was among the cards.

  1. Kenton Smith Says:

He’s 27 and has 27 starts in the league. Probably hungry to compete coming off injury. Let the competition begin!

  2. BucDawg Says:

    Barron out of Texas please.

    He’s a can’t miss CB.

Just let him cook out there and watch the wins pile up.

    LFG!!!

  3. LEWI Says:

I bet we’ll be alot deeper this year

Dean knows he’s playing for his job and another contract

  4. Bucswin! Says:

Dean will get one more year. Then he gone. Unless he balls out and stays healthy. Go Bowles

  5. bucsince79 aka bumaneer Says:

I really liked the Hall signing last year. What a shame he got put on IR in week 1… Great resign & I hope he balls out this year & is healthy…

  6. bucsince79 aka bumaneer Says:

I think Bowles gives Dean another year. I know he is banged up all the time , however, we are a better team when he is on the field…

  7. geno711 Says:

I hope Bryce Hall is ok. Pretty hopeful that he is since the Bucs signed him.

Usually with complex fractures of both the fibula and the ankle, I would have expected a recovery that would be longer than an ACL or Achilles injury.

I am curious as to when he will be able to train with the rest of the squad

  8. Bucs Guy Says:

ILB and Edge for Buc’s first 2 picks. Then CB, DT and S.

  9. dmatt Says:

Bryce is a head’s up aggressive type player. He’s not known for being injured. I’d let Dean walk n replace him with Bryce then draft a corner in 2nd or 3rd round. We must go DE or hybrid linebacker first round. JD and JTS are both soft, fragile, n passive type players, (bust) respectively. “True Grit” type players who consistently proved their self worth after 4 years + in the nfl. AWinfield, LDavid,VVea,MEvans,CGodwin,JWhitehead, WGholston, BMayfield,TWirf,GGaines.

  10. FilthyAnimal Says:

I think they could afford to unload Dean for a 4th, draft a corner in round 1, and they’d be in pretty good shape. But I wouldn’t reach for a corner. There’s only a few that meet the size/speed criteria that Bowles seems to prefer. Unloading Dean to reclaim some cap space also makes sense. He’s just not giving decent ROI.

In terms of value, unfortunately I don’t think there’s going to be a CB worthy of the #19 pick if you have Ezeiruaku or Jihaad Campbell available… Or the safety from GA, Starks. I doubt Mike Green will be there.

I hope Hall is 100% and ready to be a solid depth piece for us.

  11. Simeon4HOF Says:

    Bye Josh Hayes plz

  12. IrishTony Says:

No they’d be stupid to launch Dean. Who’s going to replace him? Bryce Hall or a second round rookie corner. From what I hear the decent corners in the early range are slot players. The outside corners that the Bucs could realistically draft are developmental (like Zyon) and maybe a year. Are we in the “win now” mode or what?

  13. IrishTony Says:

Draft a really good hybrid slot corner/safety, move Tykee to safety (now you have 3 plus potential safeties) and keep Dean and Zyon on the outside.

  14. BigPoppaBuc Says:

I’m with you Irish Tony… I’d keep Dean at this point. His cap hit hasn’t kept us from making the necessary signings. He’d be harder to replace than keep imo. We need an army of freaking corners apparently.

  15. IrishTony Says:

Totally BigPoppaBuc we definitely need another backup outside corner

  16. gotbbucs Says:

Jahdae Barron…I’d honestly consider him at pick 19.

  17. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

It would be stupid to let Dean go. If the Bucs feel like they can contend to win a Super Bowl, then they need all the experience and depth.

Dean would be a better CB if he could stay healthy and if the Bucs could generate more sacks and QB hits from our edge rushers.

  18. Truth be Told Says:

Anything to help the Pass Defense. Draft help too here we come! Not a lot of Holes on this team. Go Bucs!!

  19. View from 132 Says:

    50 cornerbacks a QB and 2 WRs… go Bowles.

  20. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … ‘Maybe this means the Bucs are more likely to draft a cornerback in Round 1 and launch Jamel Dean?’

Really excited now that the Bucs have re-signed Bryce Hall. Loved what he was doing last year before he got hurt.

But no no no to ‘launching Jamel Dean’. I’m convinced that we will draft a CB someplace in Rnds 1-3, but it makes no sense to get rid of Jamel. His strength is actually man-to-man, and if our pass rush improves this season, he’ll be used a lot more in that capacity I’m sure. And especially if Winfield gets back into form, and if Tykee Smith kicks putt as a Safety.

  21. Simeon4HOF Says:

Mike Edwards is still a free agent, maybe drafting a backup S after all

  22. Simeon4HOF Says:

Really like the Hall signing, helps a lot with depth. Still need to draft a CB as high as reasonably possible to battle Dean if he survives.
LB Rd 1 CB Rd 2 if Jihaad is there
Edge Rd 1 CB Rd 2 if not.
Hope our draft order is LB, CB, Edge, WR, S

  23. Aqualung Says:

Yes! Now I can rest and get inebriated in celebratory fashion. He’s the last Buc from 2024 I was keen on re-signing. Jason has done it again.

  24. buc4evr Says:

He was actually pretty good with the Jets, 26 starts and 40 games. Just wonder if he can rehab and get back to playing shape by the first game. This team needs about 6 or 7 DBs and Safeties on the practice squad with the constant injury situations in the backfield every year. lol.

  25. rrsrq Says:

If Campbell is there, you have to go get him, let him learn from LVD and if Denis can stay healthy, I like our ILBs for years to come, won’t even have to come off the field in passing downs. QBs not knowing where the pressure is coming from. Somewhere there is a corner in the third round ready to ball out and return punts

  26. cbell96825 Says:

Need to keep Dean this is just better depth then Hayes and Funderburke because when those guys were in it got ugly

  27. Oxycondomns Says:

keep dean. the addition of reddick, with returns of denis and hall draft jihaad and draft a cb thats already a significant upgrade

  28. Aqualung Says:

The one thing I remember about young CBs in a complex zone heavy scheme is, they often struggle. Ronde nearly got cut after his rookie season.

So maybe there’s still hope for Hayes and Funderburke.

  29. Mr_Barf Says:

Straight up trade Dean for Hendrickson..both team needs addressed

  30. Baking with Grizz Says:

    Fantástico

Now let’s get Campbell in the draft!!!!

    Dream Decade continues…

    LFG!!!!!

  31. Saskbucs Says:

Gotta be happy as a Bucs fan. We are basically all in this season without blowing up the future cap.

Hall would have made a huge difference for us last season. After the draft he might be CB4 or 5 on the team.

Still some weak spots on D but Licht has basically eliminated all the roster holes before the draft. I’d still like the first 4 rounds to be Edge, ILB, CB, DT/NT … in no particular order but BPA is certainly on the table now if McMillan or Warren were to slide to 19.

  32. Fred Says:

Get rid of Dean. With the money he’ll warm, he will be hurt more than ever. His head isn’t in the game. M

  33. Greg Says:

We’re a better defense once Hayes isn’t on the field. We should take a corner in the draft and we’ll be 4 deep for our outside corners!

  34. Usfbucs Says:

I think this is a good signing, I felt he could be a really underrated signing last year. Hope he is ready to play.

  35. #1bucsfan Says:

Bin beating this drum. Glad we finally did it. He’s a starter. We will need him for when dean goes to the pine. As of drafting a corner. If Campbell is gone then yes go get a CB if Campbell is still on the board get him and draft a CB later. We have found plenty of corners in rds 2, 3 and 5. If there’s a corner that is better player overall then Campbell well then get the corner. I trust Jason and his team. Defense is starting to shape up nicely and we haven’t got the draft yet.

  36. Chris Says:

This is Great News !! Agree to draft a CB a send Dean walking the Plank . Please draft Shavon Revel Jr CB if Jihad Campbell is gone . Revel Jr and Campbell have 80” Wingspans 😮. Revel Jr can be used to block FGs look at the tape guy has a knack for it.

  37. firethecannons Says:

I would like to see Jihaad Campbell or Ezerokui or Mike Green. Save the corner picks for rounds 2-4

  38. Fred McNeil Says:

    Hall is a good signing.

  39. Fred McNeil Says:

I’d still love to keep Dean one more year.

  40. B Says:

I read here locking up guys to play special teams cuz the draft strategy to be very aggressive burn day 3 picks to trade up to get impact players we are targeting but we may not be in position to take

  41. adam from ny Says:

i’m thinking they haven’t thrown in the towel on funderburke yet…

i think coach thinks he can develop the kid…

hayes is another story…he’s like a ryan smith at best – if you know, you know

  42. David Says:

Between him and Dean, one will be healthy.

    Round 1: ILB
