Big Man Charlie Heck Awed By Big Size Of Tristan Wirfs

March 18th, 2025

Bucs swing tackle Charlie Heck.

Boy, did Charlie Heck make a big impression yesterday when he appeared before the local pen and mic club at One Buc Palace.

The new Bucs’ swing tackle is 6-8, 315 pounds and looks in fantastic shape. That’s one massive human being.

Yesterday was the first time Heck, brought in last week in a free agent move, had met Wirfs. He was dumbstruck by Wirfs’ size.

“Unbelievable,” Heck said of Wirfs. “I just saw him in the locker room – that dude is enormous. He’s unbelievable.”

Heck was in awe of Wirfs from afar. Heck, who has learned to play both sides of the ball, marveled how Wirfs was the best right tackle in the game, flipped to left tackle, and now dominates there.

“I mean, talk about somebody who was able to go from right tackle and then over to left, and he’s doing it at an All-Pro level,” Heck marveled. “So, I’m excited to be in an O-line room with somebody like that.”

When Heck was asked what was special about Wirfs, he basically replied, you name it.

“Size, strength, athletic ability,” Heck rattled off Wirfs’ attributes. “I mean, he’s one of those rare freaks that don’t come around often.”

So let the record show: Wirfs isn’t only rare. He isn’t just a freak. He’s a rare freak, per Heck.

Joe doesn’t think there is any question Wirfs is the best offensive lineman the team has ever had.

Wirfs’ workout habits rubbed off on Goedeke and Mauch and we can see how those guys stepped up last year. I hope Tristian’s effect extends to Heck, Bredeson, and Barton. Tristian showed some juice on the field last year, with a little trash talk and backing up his teammates in scuffles. His leadership is growing and this OL definitely is capable of taking over games and another step up to top 5.

I saw him in the locker room and he was enormous? What the heck, Heck?

  3. Defense Rules Says:

I’m not sure I’d want a fellow player referring to me as a
‘rare freak’. Could really screw you up with the ladies.

  4. Aqualung Says:

    ^^^^^^^
    LOL!

Heck does have a nice porn stash, looks like a movie character.

  5. Truth be Told Says:

hard to find a weakness on this team besides CB and LB. Go Bucs!!

  6. Kenton Smith Says:

According to Joe this Heck has pedigree. Doesn’t take a lick of pedigree to cipher that Tristan Wirfs is “he’s one of those rare freaks that don’t come around often”. Any mutt could have told us that!

  7. Joe Says:

Any mutt could have told us that!

Well, for Joe, hearing it from a guy who has pelts on the wall and continues to bust his ass to stay in the league and who knows first-hand how difficult it is to flip sides as a tackle, and has an old man who is an NFL offensive line coach for a three-time Super Bowl champion, his words carry a little more weight for Joe than coming from some mongrel walking aimlessly through the neighborhood.

    But, eh, that’s just Joe.

  8. Kenton Smith Says:

Ok, mutts don’t get any respect. But any “dawg” could have told us that.

  9. Fred McNeil Says:

    Heck ain’t exactly small himself.

  10. Aqualung Says:

Kenton Smith – where was your reporting on the subject?

  11. ir8oldman Says:

315 is kind of light for 6’8″, that’s a weight that can be moved pretty easily by a determined D-Lineman. Weight Room, Buffet, Weight Room. Wawa for a turkey bowl or 5 on the way home.

  12. Kenton Smith Says:

Aqualung, I read your posts for the laughs. Not to be informed. I read Joes articles for the laughs and to be informed. Sounds like you’re confused. I know I sometimes am.

  13. KABucs Says:

Looks like he was built like Kappa was. Still really large but really tall at the same time. At that size probably not athletic enough to be a tackle but nice that he can play multiple interior positions. The freak thing is just genetics, but this guy has pedigree so he probably has a ton of knowledge. It’s a good pickup for depth and we need to keep looking.

I’m still torn between getting a d-lineman/edge, a CB or Campbell at pick 19. I think it will come down to who’s available, who falls and such. And who knows, maybe a trade is coming. In Licht we trust, cuz he, Bowles and the scouts will do a lot more research than I will. LOL
    I’m just a mutt!

  14. BucDawg Says:

Just run the damn ball boys! LFG!!!

  15. J Says:

What Witfs has accomplished since being drafted in 2020 is astounding.

    ●PFWA All Rookie Team ’20
    ●4x Pro Bowl ’21 to 24
    ●2nd Team All Pro ’22
●2x First Team All Pro ’21 and ’24 (First at RT, and 2nd at LT)
    ●Super Bowl Champion (LV)

He’s making a case to be the greatest OL to ever do it… and only 26 years old. Turns 27 end of January.

  16. PauleyD Says:

Enormous? I think that’s like the pot calling the kettle black.

  17. suk sandhu Says:

Tristan is the best Offensive lineman in the league.

  18. Aqualung Says:

I’m not confused. Joe wrote a good article and you said any “mutt” could have written it. You’re being disrespectful and flat out wrong. It cracks me up these know-it-alls who criticize Joe’s takes. Especially something as petty as this criticism.

  19. BucU Says:

Another Buccaneer who’s character is as good as their talent. That’s one thing I love about this organization. If you’re not all in for the common goal then this place ain’t for you.

  20. Simeon4HOF Says:

    That’s Dewey from Scream lol

  21. ChiBuc Says:

Aww heck, we gotta man crush brewing

  22. Baking with Grizz Says:

    Good job Joe!
    Good job Licht!

    LFG!!!!

  23. Kenton Smith Says:

Joe, I never said any mutt could have written that. I read the article and enjoyed it-never meant any offense. And who asked you anyway, Aqualung?

  24. Aqualung Says:

“Any mutt could have told us that!“

I guess you meant in spoken word instead of written word. So that makes it ok.

Not to be totally negative, I got a cackle of your call to “Jeff’ Grandpa” to bring the bullwhip to the basement. Funny stuff.

  25. Kenton Smith Says:

Joe, I reread what I wrote and now I finally see how that could have been misconstrued. I absolutely wasnt criticizing your take. As far as Aquaturd goes- I’ll repeat- who asked you anyway?

  26. Joe Says:

Joe, I never said any mutt could have written that. I read the article and enjoyed it-never meant any offense.

    No harm, no foul man.

Joe always puts stock in things that come from NFL players, even the guys who aren’t that good. Joe understands some folks don’t. With Heck, I respect a guy who has fought this long to stay in the league.

Heck seems to be a Josh Johnson of offensive linemen. Not as many teams as Johnson, though.

Appreciate your kind words in an earlier comment.

  27. ModHairKen Says:

Let’s see. Wirfs v. Charles McRae? Wirfs v. Kenyatta Walker?

Yeah. Wirfs is the best ever. And second place is miles behind.

  28. PSL Bob Says:

Please refresh my memory Joe. Weren’t there four offensive lineman that were ranked real high the year Wirfs was selected? And Tristan was the last to come off the board. He turned out to be the best of the four. Licht hit a home run with him.

  29. #1bucsfan Says:

Wirfs is a generational talent. Jason’s 2nd hall of fame player he has selected. Wirfs could retire tomorrow and he would still get it. I’m on joking but man dude is insane. Glad he’s a buc.

  30. Buclover1988 Says:

i had zero doubt wirfs was on the level of Ogden, roaff, pace. wirfs whenhes done will be the GOAT of ol. he’s that good. doubt it if you want, but just be prepared to be proven extremely wrong.

  31. garro Says:

Having watched every snap from our Ring of Honor Tackle Paul Gruber I would never say Wirfs is the best because the two played in different eras for really different teams quality wise. Thus he missed out on alot of very deserving recognition. All Pro and Bro Bowl is denied to guys who play in Tampa especially back then. Never missed a start in 11 years at LT. The best two we have ever had Joe.

    Go Bucs!
