“Made Himself A Dominant Edge Player”

March 16th, 2025

The greatness of new Bucs edge rusher Haason Reddick is not overlooked by one iconic Buccaneer.

After all, Reddick landed in a mess out of college, one that took years to correct.

Drafted by Arizona in 2017, under head coach Bruce Arians, Reddick had three head coaches and three defensive coordinators in his first three seasons. And they all put him at inside linebacker.

How many players emerge with multiple Pro Bowls after that?

That’s not lost on Hall of Fame Bucs cornerback Rondé Barber, who told the No Off Days podcast that he loves the Reddick signing for Tampa Bay.

“I love the way that he plays. I love how he’s overcome his own adversity,” Barber said.

“Early in his career, they didn’t even know where to play him. If you remember, when Arizona drafted him, when Bruce Arians drafted him and didn’t know where to play him — stand-up or inside linebacker. But he kind of redefined himself and made himself a dominant edge player and it’s clearly one of our weaknesses.”

The “redefined himself” impresses Joe a ton.

Reddick balled out as an edge rusher in 2020 and left in free agency to Carolina. He crushed it there, too, and then was dominant in Philadelphia.

Has there ever been a double-digit sacker with four different teams? Joe can’t think of one. But that Bucs sure hope/expect that’s Reddick.

Calais Campbell, Dwight Freeney, Clyde Simmons, Jared Allen, Kevin Greene
    There’s 5
Joe’s referring to guys who got 10 or more sacks with each team. … Kevin Greene pulled that off. The others you mentioned did not.–Joe

Those guys all played with 4 or more teams….

I think Kevin Green is the only one who actually had 10 or more sacks with 4 different teams….

Reddick’s story sounds similar to Baker Msyfield’s being tossed around from team to team until he landed in Tampa Bay.

The storyline is too eerie to be just a coincidence. Baker needs to introduce himself to Reddick and help him change the defense like he did in the offense.

Hope he works out because the dude has the talent.

I was rewatching Super Bowl 56 today. LA vs Cincinnati. Very early in the game there was Cincinnati DE Trey Hendrickson downfield in coverage. So it’s not just the Bucs doing it.

  6. B Says:

Lol well of course not, Dew. We just notice more because of our lack of consistent pass rush

The Bucs hit the sweet spot signing Reddick. This 30 year old is a crucial addition but pass rush is not an area any team should ever consider “solved.” Running back and quarterback are the only positions the Bucs can call solved. There is not much more pass rush to be had from this draft so Ojulari in FA or Ezeiruaku in the draft would be good investments.

Yeah if they don’t take Donovan I’m kind of hoping they take Revel. Sure he’s recovering from the injury but at least he can still heal if they took him & he wouldn’t have to go in there right away with McCollum Vildor & depending on Dean. He could come in if needed but he wouldn’t have to start right away whereas Donovan might. Revel could probably take over next year if so if Dean goes. Even if Dean does stay this will probably be his last year. Revel should be a good fit because he could do well in zone & man.

Just a little fuzzy on why we’re asking, consulting a short CB on what a DE has or hasn’t done??

I mean as great as DB55 was, we don’t consult with him on TB12’s accomplishments for example. As testimony.

Apples, and oranges. Dudes who played the exact position at an agreed upon high level, for awhile. Then we shoot the ishhh together on that.

    Fragile, fragile….filters.

  11. Bushlover Says:

Broke is, as broke does, here.

  12. Bushlover Says:

No one’s waiting for this nonsense. Not sure why we’re asking a short cornerback about what. DE does or doesn’t do…

    Apples and oranges completely.

I mean a great dude we had recently that won us a trophy that threw the football doesn’t tell our stud L T how to block on the line right…

Why not? Brooks (or any linebacker) would have a fantastic view of what makes Brady tick coming from a defensive perspective. Sometimes, a guy on the opposite side of the ball has the best insight.

  14. SlyPirate Says:

We ask Barber and we listen to Barber because he’s a brilliant football mind. He also played with some pretty great LB and Edge players.

  15. firethecannons Says:

Reddick was good on multiple teams and he is real motivated now, this signing has potential!

  16. BucsFanSince1996 Says:

@Bushlover, that “short cornerback” knows quite a lot about rushing the passer. Among defensive backs, he is 2’nd in NFL history for his number of sacks.

  17. Buc king Says:

If you ever speak poorly on Ronde knowledge of the game again….i will see all your buccaneer privileges will be revoked immediately.

Gotta laugh at these know it alls who challenge Joe and think a Hall of Fame football player is not a credible source for analysis.
