Jason Licht: No Receiving Duo A More Complete Package Than Mike Evans And Chris Godwin

March 11th, 2025

Bucs GM Jason Licht.

Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht was both jovial and a little emotional today when meeting with the local press in the wake of Chris Godwin agreeing to a three-year contract for some $66 million.

Licht joked with Godwin that he only wears sportscoats for special occasions and he wore one this afternoon because bringing Godwin back on a third contract was special.

Then Licht noted he was stressed out early this week trying to re-sign Godwin and he had to be very careful not to text Godwin too much as he might chase Godwin away.

In fact, Licht said his wife had to persuade him to put the phone down, saying, “Don’t push him.”

So why was Licht nervous and emotional? Licht said the more he respects a player, the more nervous and stressed he gets come contract time.

Then Licht made a bold statement that isn’t too far off. Licht said when you combine the talents of Mike Evans and Godwin, and factor in their character, production and “selflessness,” there has been no better receiving duo in the history of the game.

As Licht was saying this, Joe could probably think of one one-two punch that could top Evans and Godwin: Lynn Swann and John Stallworth.

Both are Hall of Fame players with four rings each. And both were class gentlemen on and off the field.

Other than those two Steelers legends who were last together 43 years ago, Joe thinks Licht might be accurate.

Name a better duo in the past four decades that combined class with talent and production (and a championship) like Evans and Godwin.

    D@mn straight, Jason!

  3. Usfbucs Says:

ME and CG will both be Bucs for life.

  4. SlyPirate Says:

CG isn’t HOF. He’s 29, and unlike Evans, he’s had lots of injuries.

  5. HopeIn1Hand... Says:

Licht isn’t wrong about that combo. Egbuka represents the opportunity to make it a tradition. This year’s McMillan will be gone but he might too in the ME13 vein rather than the Godwin clone Egbuka projects as.

  6. John Says:

what were seeing is super special. this just doesnt happen anymore and realistically licht is on point. no duo ever i believe that have different skill sets that compliment each other so well for so long. ill be at a game this year!!

  7. Scott Says:

We are back baby! Looking forward to what the offense can do with Griz calling plays and everyone healthy

  8. Simeon4HOF Says:

Wouldn’t trade either of Them for any other Receiver.
Well said JL. Well done Sir, you drafted both.
    Our Duo the Best

  9. SenileSenior Says:

The culture that JL has been fostered at the behest of the Glazers has allowed ME and CG to flourish. Class acts thrive in class organizations. Sound trite? It is not. I am proud to be a Buccaneer fan.

  10. Pickgrin Says:

The Marks brothers were damn good with Marino for quite a few years – no Championship though….

Minnesota had Randy Moss and Chris Carter – along with Shannon Sharpe for a couple/few seasons… No Championship…

But yea – I’m hard pressed to come up with a clearly “better” long term ‘duo’ at WR than Evans and Godwin have been over the last 8 years….

Still say the 2020/2021 Buccaneers group was the best set of receiving options an NFL QB has EVER thrown to…

Evans, Godwin, AB and Gronk – that is just a sick level of receiving talent on one field!

  11. Dewey Selmon Says:

Both #13 and #14 have been with their wives since high school. I believe it changes an athletes outlook for a more stable family situation and not have to move as a professional yet. Both are multi millionaires and I believe Godwin will be in the ROH while Evans is a ROH and HOFer

  12. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Rice and Taylor? I gotta agree there can’t be many duos above #13 and #14.

  13. BootyLover Says:

Fitzgerald and Bolden was the last wr duo I recall on this level. Then maybe Holt and Bruce.

  14. Jarrett Says:

With all due respect I’ve never seen a WR take as much punishment as Chris Godwin. We practically use him as a human pin ball machine going across the middle

Not sure we shoulda resigned him, same way we shouldn’t have made Winfield jr the highest paid safety

Pretty much got the same team as last year …

If Chris Godwin goes down, that means we lose to teams like the commanders. We are def not the same team without him

  15. HopeIn1Hand… Says:

Rice and Taylor… Evans and Godwin… Things that make you go hmm…. I’m not proclaiming any bests ever or lobbying for recognition from anyone but straight up- if it’s first and ten from the twelve yard line on either side of the field I’ll take these Bucs in a heartbeat. So would Montana. These two plus McMilan and we got a proven pass rusher!?! This is surreal to anyone who has been a Bucs fan since the 1900’s. WHOA…

  16. heyjude Says:

Licht is right on. Evans and Godwin are the dynamic duo.

Pickgrin says – “Evans, Godwin, AB and Gronk – that is just a sick level of receiving talent on one field!” You can say that again! Thrilling times.

  17. Buc king Says:

    Rice and t ownes..
    Rice and brown
Didn’t the rams have a sick duo

  18. Jeff Says:

    lol! Ok!
